1001 Albums Summary

Generally good songwriting. Some good melodies that stick. Interesting production. Not a huge fan of the vocals. But I get why people like it.

Exactly what you'd expect from a Country Pop album of 1971. Great songwriting, performance and production. Standout tracks for me are the title track and the finale "A Better Place to Live".

Honestly, a lot better than I remembered. Great and virtuoso performances by all band members. Some risky ideas. I don't think I will go back to listening to a lot of Deep Purple (I had a phase as a teenager), but I have to give this album 5/5.

Surprisingly good. I like most of these tracks. And even with those I could personally do without, I have to acknowledge the creativity and craftsmanship. It won't end up on my favourites list, but I can't in good conscience give it less than 5/5. Probably 4.5/5.

Probably very unpopular opinion: I'm not a huge fan of the singing. She has a great voice and she can surely sing, but the melodies are often not very accessible or memorable and it feels like she tries to put too many syllables into them. Lyrics are good, but it feels like they were not meant to be sung. Pleasant exception: Raised on Robbery I can't really say I enjoy this album. It's pretty well produced and arranged and has some very good musicians. I would have liked it better if she had gone full jazz like in the last track Twisted. There she even does some great phrasings with those "too many syllables". But in the other songs, they just feel displaced. 3/5

I have never liked his voice. Unlike the Smiths, I don't know what people like about this. Even the weirdness feels forced. Some catchy melodies. But parts of this is really painful and I've thought about skipping the rest of the album more than once. "Late Night, Maudlin Street" might be the worst thing I've heard in a long time. The longer I listen to this album, the more painful it gets. OMG, it's over. What a relief. 2 points, because there are some actual musicians and sound engineers involved, and they did their best to make this somewhat listenable. I'm not going to edit this. It's not worth my time.

I can't really say anything negative aside from the fact that I'm not a huge fan. Some parts actually go on my nerves. Some are pretty good. Overall well done, but not for me. 4/5

This is fun. Great rhythmic feeling. Not exactly my taste, i.e. I would not go out of my way to listen to it. But I will keep it in mind and if I hear it somewhere I will enjoy it. Of course it's very well composed, produced and played. Great album to expand my musical horizon.

Not my favorite Priest album, but still a banger. I know Rob Halford can sing very high, but I actually always preferred his lower registers. Legendary riffs and songwriting. 5/5

Bold and creative. Would probably not get signed today. It's really odd at times. I like some of it and can appreciate the artistry of the songs that are not for me. A classic for good reasons. 5/5

Typical Jackson sound of the late 80s and 90s. However, I feel Janet was significantly ahead of Michael here. Grooves are incredibly tight, yet multilayered and colorful. Overall brilliant production. I like the social consciousness message. Overall great album I really enjoyed listening to. 5/5

I've heard this a lot some decades ago. It has good songwriting and performances, but I could never really warm up to it.

I don't know. They always felt overrated to me. This has some interesting bits, but nothing I have strong desire to listen to again. Some parts make me wonder whether they were all playing the same song. 3/5, two of which are for Charlie Watts, who keeps the songs together, even when everyone else seems to wander off on their own.

I used to be a lot more into that back in the days. But it's still OK. Solid rock music with a glam vibe.

I really, really don't like Christmas songs. I really don't.

This is top tier music. This guy is happening. And the band supports him flawlessly.

Yeah, this is clearly a rock opera. Not intended for casual listening. It's well made and creative. But I find it tiring at times. I also don't like Roger Water's voice.

I must admit, I didn't like it back then. But I have obviously learned to appreciate it. I even like most of it. It's very, very British. This is why I love this website. I get to reevaluate things I had already written off.

It's a decently good Hip Hop / RnB album. Not really my genre, but I actually like some songs and can appreciate the craft of other songs. Some tracks feel a little over-endeavored IMHO. Yeah, the woman can sing, no doubt. But I've heard better from her and better in that genre from other artists. 3/5

I have to admit, it's a very good album. Not totally my kind of music, but I found myself jamming along to it. So, maybe it is somewhat my kind of music. ;-) Super groovy basslines. Great voice and singing, of course. Full of emotions and a firm stance. Not a new favorite of mine, but anything below 4/5 would be dishonest.

Very musical, very creative. Daring, but catchy. Love this! I could do with a little less orchestra sometimes. But overall very well produced.

An absolute masterpiece of the genre. Still sounds as modern as 30 years ago. Truly Timeless.

Great album! I really enjoyed that. Will probably listen to this from time to time. But is it an album everyone needs to listen to before they die? Not exactly. Like I said, it's good. But I don't think it's world-shaking or momentous.

Not sure why this is on this list. It's okay-ish. I liked it at first, but as it goes on, it sort of drags. A generous 3/5.

I'm afraid I'm too young to understand the noteworthiness of this album. To me it sounds like typical music of that time. It reminded me of the Fallout games. Other than that there's not much I can say. It's not bad. I don't assume I will listen to it again.
