Popular Reviews

The Band by The Band

"I started to play the song yesterday, and stopped myself. Again, I was angry. Again, another story about the blues of Pharaoh, and the people are invisible. The people are always invisible. "These motherfuckers," I mumbled to myself." -Ta-Nehisi Coates, about 'The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down'

Black Metal by Venom

Frankly, cringe. Also not my thing, so I am a little biased, but still - I KNOW metal can be better than this, genre defining or not.

Green by R.E.M.
Dec 13 2025

Undeniably a pretty good/decent album, but it's nothing extraordinary and just didn't do much for me.

Disraeli Gears by Cream
Dec 16 2025

Was kinda surprised by how much I liked this!

Rings Around The World by Super Furry Animals
Dec 19 2025

the music isn't really bad or anything, I just felt zero connection to it, which was strange

Van Halen by Van Halen
Dec 20 2025

eruption is a fire song, but the rest of the album is just not my thing at all - too loud and not my vibe - like 2.5/5, but I'll round up to three because it's not poorly done

xx by The xx
Dec 23 2025

Really disappointed by this one after having just gotten their most recent album ("I See You") yesterday, which was an easy 4 stars. Too muddled and same-y without any appealing factors.

Tea for the Tillerman by Cat Stevens
Dec 25 2025

I had heard some of the more successful tracks from this before, but unsuprisingly the whole thing is stellar. Yusuf/Cat has a great voice, and the guitar-dominant production is really quite rich and complex. Add some great lyrics and you have some top of the line songs. Easy 5 stars! And the super deluxe version from 2020 has some good outtakes as well as some great loose singles (like "If You Want To Sing Out, Sing Out")!

Moby Grape by Moby Grape
Dec 31 2025

good, sort of a country-rock combo, with "Omaha" as a particular standout. although the shortness of the songs prevents them from overstaying their welcome, it's also indicative of how the album is a little underdeveloped (eg: lyrically) despite some cool sonic ideas

Who's Next by The Who
Jan 01 2026

Baba O'Riley... holy shit and the rest of the album is great too!!!

The Score by Fugees
Jan 02 2026

Excellent album, really more like 3.5 stars for me because I don't find the flow/cadence that compelling on a lot of the tracks, but the highlights (that Enya sample on Ready or Not!!! Killing me Softly!!! etc) and the general quality warrant rounding up to 4 stars.

Beggars Banquet by The Rolling Stones
Jan 04 2026

Boring, weirdly twee at times, some songs are actually grating to listen to. Street Fighting Man is good, and No Expectations and Salt of the Earth are both decent. 2/5

Architecture And Morality by Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark
Jan 09 2026

Sealand is so good the rest of the album could be trash and I would still give this a high rating. Good thing the rest of the album is also good!!

Blue Lines by Massive Attack
Jan 10 2026

More like a 3/5 personally, but I recognize the musical talent on display here and it does make for great easy listening.

World Clique by Deee-Lite
Jan 11 2026

they do have some good beats that really make me feel that grove in my heart... in almost an e.s.p way

The Band by The Band

Black Metal by Venom

Frankly, cringe. Also not my thing, so I am a little biased, but still - I KNOW metal can be better than this, genre defining or not.

Orbital 2 by Orbital
Jan 18 2026

I don't think I'll revisit this album much beyond a few outstanding tracks, but I think it works really well and sounds good - in fact, I would say that "Time Becomes" is a better song that many of the generic rock tracks on a lot of the mid-level albums on this list. That track is like Blue Monochrome by Yves Klein - many people may say it's pointless, but you can also find a near-infinite number of rhythms and meanings within a seemingly monochrome and/or monotone work. Not saying that I'm putting it in playlist rotation, but still. Halcyon is pretty unquestionable in its greatness though, I have to say.

Larks' Tongues In Aspic by King Crimson
Jan 19 2026

As far as prog rock goes, this seems like some of the best work there is sonically - but I think it's missing the lyrical element that I want so it'll have to stay at 4 for now, but I may very well change my mind and give it a full five later.

Want One by Rufus Wainwright
Jan 25 2026
Jan 26 2026

There are a couple good songs on here, and the rest aren't bad, but they slip into the background so easily and totally blur together, which I don't think was intentional and brings the album down to two stars.

Rapture by Anita Baker
Jan 28 2026
Beauty And The Beat by The Go-Go's
Jan 29 2026

Just really good stuff, and the whole album has immense replay value. One of the core albums of the new wave genre, and I think it remains at the top level of pop achievement in general even 45 years later.

Pump by Aerosmith
Feb 06 2026
Ingenue by k.d. lang
Feb 08 2026

Season of Hollow Love is an incredible song. rest of the album pretty good too

In The Wee Small Hours by Frank Sinatra
Feb 15 2026

was surprised to find that the album had finished, it just all blurred together in the background and I had sort of assumed it would go on forever - which I can appreciate as the goal of an album, but I don't think it's what Sinatra was really going for and I don't see it that way

Bookends by Simon & Garfunkel

im just a sucker for this type of music

Murmur by R.E.M.

3rd REM album so far - one to go! This one might be my favourite one yet.
