Top 3 songs: Lilac Wine, Why Keep On Breaking My Heart, Either Way I Lose
fav: (?) „A Love Supreme, Pt. IV - Psalm”; sadly not my style but undeniably very impressive musically
honestly liked pretty much every song except for maybe „tell me why” and „after the gold rush”. also, the guitar in southern man was phenomenal
phenomenal, phenomal album. "brain damage" might be one of my favourite songs from the album, but honestly everything was a masterpiece!!
really enjoyed "can it be all so simple" because it felt quite separate from the rest of the album which for me was nothing too special. the songs sort of integrated into a one big compilation - they lacked distinctive features. however, i can see how this album has influenced hip-hop music
really makes you realise how great country music can be. very remarkable live album i must say!
outside of the songs which i have previously known and liked, "one and only", "he won't go" and "don't you remember" surprised me really positively. the overall "vibe" of the album is very appealing to me and definitely i wanna get more familiar with adele's discography outside of major radio hits, after listening to entirety of "21"
i liked that it had this witty, angsty lyricism to it which suited the composition of the songs, but i fear that it’s going to be a rather easily forgettable album for me
i think i would've liked it better if instead of switching tabs between youtube and spotify, i could listen to it in one place on any of those platforms. sadly, i had to miss two songs because they were not available on any of music streaming apps. the album itself was fine, it had a pleasant vibe ("saturday night" and "ya viene el sol" were my personal favourites). maybe one day i'll buy a used cd of this album so i could listen to the entirety of it, but at the moment the album was just "fine" and simply nothing too special for me, despite being quite catchy!
oh my god, how much i love dylan’s discography. music and lyricism everything is in place here. i’m a big fan and i will be relistening („i want you” was so amazing)
i loved this! honestly, majority of the songs had me in such a positive mood and it was just what i needed to be satisfied
i don't know if it is the whole genre of shoegaze or this particular album but i genuinely despised it. it was so tiring and i considered giving up a few times. i can't exemplify a single song which was at least "okay" and didn't make me feel like my ears are bleeding. i understand the importance of weird, unidentified noises in shoegaze style however it was simply too much. well, at least i can say one thing, it was for sure innovative in a way but i don't think i'm ever gonna revisit any of those songs.
as a person who dislikes kanye to the core, i really grew to appreciate this album in the sense of production and its complexity. i like when songs are ambigous and combine multiple styles, sounds and here some of those combinations intrigued me, which affects my rating of the album. i probably won't be coming back to it any time soon, however for my first real listen to his music it was okay and honestly that's enough
a very very pleasant and lovely album, perfect for a cozy evening. the song "tapestry" was so good lyrically and sonically! it's not a 5 for me since there was no greater drawing factor however i really enjoyed the album and i will be re-listening!
easily a 5-star album for me - one of my favourite albums of all time, getting it as my "album of the day" was so fun! i got to re-listen to some of my favourite songs and came to realization why i love this album so much. it's perfectly raw, honest and unfiltered. angsty both in music and lyricism and yet so fun! i listen to "jagged little pill" everytime i want to revive emotions which were swept under the rug and this listen truly grounded me in my perception of the album as just a phenomenal piece of music!!
this definitely wasn't what i was expecting from the album given its description. i found this album very ethereal and magical and particularly liked the songs "eat yourself", "a&e" and "monster love", however i will have to revisit them and look at the lyrics which are crucial to me liking the songs in the end. for now i can say that "eat yourself" had beautiful, beautiful lyricism which was certainly "hidden" as the words sung by Alison were difficult to catch at a first listen. overall, a quite interesting body of work which didn't necessarily draw my attention to the fullest however was a nice addition as i was studying!
oh my god, this is exactly the kind of music i enjoy. as i listen to more albums i realize how much i love these kinds of folk, soft rock vibes. van morrison's "moondance" was phenomenal - melancholical and also an ideal album to help me focus while studying and that is quite a compliment in my mouth!! i certainly will be coming back to this album in the future as its melody resembled long lost chilhood songs related memories if that makes any sense at all.
wow!! the opening track was so freaking insane and i fully understand the way in which i it was influential for its genre!!!
sadly, despite liking other the velvet underground's works, this one didn't resonate with me. it just felt a little bit too monotonous and cohesive in a way that didn't allow me to form a strongly positive opinion. however, i reallyyyy liked "what goes on", "pale blue eyes" and "after hours". "murder mystery", on the other hand was very hard to listen, despite me understanding the creative choices made here. overall, the album as a whole didnt resonate with me much so that's why i give it a 2 (would give it a 2.5 if it was possible)
even though it was pleasant, i have no idea why it's on the list, to me it wasn't formative in any way. i generally like country music but in here my problem was that everything sounded like one long song, maybe due to short duration of each song but i don't know, i just wasn't satisfied
a very beautiful body of work, which felt nostalgical and i believe would be perfect for a roadtrip. my favourite track was probably "pre-road downs"
a very appropriate name for this album, it was incredibly sexy and playful but i was sadly a bit bored, the themes of the songs were also very repetitive. i don’t think i will be coming back much but i did love kick your game
this felt very late 90s/early 2000s movie soundtrack like. personally, i like this kind of music, however, this album didn't offer me anything new or amusing and i'll probably forget about it tommorrow. it wasn't bad though, just nothing influential in my opinion
positive surprise, so remarkable!
classy album which was exactly what i expected from prince, given the fact that my knowledge about his music is very basic. definitely, i found a few jams such as "hot thing" or "strange relationship"
i liked the production and instruments, it felt a little bit monotonous for sure but overall i enjoyed it. „basket case” remains one of my favourite tracks of all time
i don't really know how to rate this. i think the production of the songs was actually phenomal, songs like "if there is something", "would you believe?" or "bitters end" were really enjoyable. but i don't think i will listen to it on a daily basis
it felt just like classic elvis, to me it was nothing too extraordinary, but listenable. i just think he has better songs, however i loved „any day now” and „suspicious minds”.
i've seen a lot of reviews prior to listening to the album that it sounds a bit like coldplay and i have to agree. the album wasn't bad, it just felt a bit monotonous to me despite liking the production of some songs. my overall fav was definitely "n.y.". from what i saw in terms of lyrics, the themes mentioned in the songs are cohesive across the whole album and in my opinuon are of a good quality.
a very difficult listen, to begin with. going into this album i knew it's gonna be challenging however i didn't expect that to this extent. the first track "underground" was truly atrocious, it felt like my ears could start bleeding at any minute. the only positive thing i have to say is that the tracks began to be better and better from 1-15 (this way "my fav" - if i can call anything that way - was "rainbirds"). i see how creative these songs are and i do believe that some could call tom waits a visionary of some sort - i don't think i've heard songs that experimental in my life - but as a casual listener who does not wish to look into a deeper meaning of the singer's voice (to me,horrible), it's an experience i do not wish to repeat. i'm glad that this challenge, subjects me to such new genres of music though, because i would never digest it myself nor finish listening to the album, so i guess you can say that my horizons are broadening with every listen and i am curious how this journey will go!
a very classy album, i did enjoy it. to me it is a quite good background (but quality) music. i like the swing/jazz in the album, i didn't look into the lyricism but i believe the lines are often witty. plus, prima's voice suited me just well.
OMG i had no idea how much i was missing on, not listening to this album before. an absolute banger, i didn't expect to love it as much as i did. truly, each song was insane in both in terms of music and vocals. the songs also mention very important and relevant themes. in a way "the miseducation of lauryn hill" reminds of late 90s whitney houston, especially "my love is your love" era. i'm so so happy that this was my album of the day and i can't wait to come back to it. the music was so insanely catchy, that it is most certain that i will come back soon!!
the instruments used in this one are interesting choices in terms of how the music is shaped throughout the album, i overall think it was quite generic and not many songs stood out to me despite the overall atmosphere of the album being quite unique. i liked the rock and roll aspect of it all, but the rest is just not necessarily my vibe. I liked the production on „witch” and i enjoyed „do you love me”
definitely an album not for everyone, i personally enjoyed it more than i thought i would but it still didn't impress me. i like the concept for this work, as i was listening i thought at times (especially during "come on! feel the illinoise!...") that these songs would fit really well into a musical which turned out to be a correct assumption after reading the album's wikipedia page hahaha, coming back, i really appreciate the way in which sufjan stevens built this, especially the interludes which were nicely executed in terms of the idea for the whole album. i also believe i have to comeback to it at some point in the future to explore the lyrical layer in bigger detail but for now this album was simply okay and quite pleasant, some songs were less "interesting" than the others - just nothing eye-opening or mind-blowing but as i previously said, it is certainly a well constructed and executed concept album
it was as raw as i recalled from just a few songs i had listened to in the past. the structure of this record is truly impressive, the way in which the band was able to convey raw and often underrepresented emotions was groundbreaking and perhaps history-making in my opinion. while a part of the songs were not really aligned with what i normally like musically, what hit me the most were these sharp, dark and often self-reflecting lyrics that fit perfectly with the music and sound production. also "nevermind" happens to be an album listened by my mom a lot when she was a teen, so it was interesting to try to look at it through her lenses, as if i myself was a teen in the 90s
pleasant but quite boring album, i liked the mellodies etc. but honestly it all felt like one long song. "tyler" was more distinctive to me plus i really liked "adella". if i wasn't studying when listening to it, i would probably have high chances of falling asleep at times! nevertheless, i think it's a good record but not really influential
i had relatively low expectations before listening to this album but WOW, was i wrong! i genuinely loved it and will be definitely revisiting these tracks! i cannot even bring myself to picking one favorite song as almost every single one was remarkable in a way (except from one which i will come back to in a minute...). the production of the tracks was very intriguing, the vibe which i could correspond to how a night out feels when you're young and carefree was sooo nicely executed. the lyrics were fun most of the time but also clever, i really enjoyed the themes of "return to oz". also, "a message from ms. matronic" was a very creative way of welcoming the listeners to the bonus tracks. however, i absolutely despised their rendition of "comfortably numb" - one of my favorite songs of all time. to me, i cannot bring myself to describe it in words other than "butchered". i get that it was supposed to be different from the original but at times it felt like listening to bee gees's version of this songs especially when they went "I-I have become comfortably numb", like wdym??!! anyway, this made me strenghten my decision on the final rating, which is a 4 because despite minor mistakes (or major you could say) it was a highly enjoyable record with immensive vibes
initially, i didn't fully resonate with this, but after listening to "perfect day", "hangin' round" and "walk on the wild side" i was able to fully grasp how good this music is. i really like the overall atmosphere of this album which was very layered yet specific - i don't really know how to describe it other than just thoroughly crafted. i didn't know much about reed's individual career prior to this record but i think i can now grasp why he is considered one of the greats
okay, so i gotta give this a 3 - it's closer to 3,5 though. i feel like the overall vibe of the record appealed to me more than "nevermind" at times but at the same time there were a lot of tracks which felt a bit too "screamy". i really like how nirvana uses repetitions to strenghten the anxiety and angst of the lyrics, so here "in utero" gains a plus from me. my favorite track has to be "heart-shaped box" but i also enjoyed "serve the servants", "dumb" (!!!) and "all apologies" of course. i'm very open to re-listening to this album as i believe my rating can still change!
first of all, it wasn't as bad as i thought it would be and as i saw in a bunch of reviews. i think that the concept was executed quite nicely actually, to me it felt exactly how watching ads on television felt as a kid - everything interrupted with a commercial, as if rubbed in your face. so for that, it has my respect - the way that the concept for the album was delivered. however, musically, it was quite boring, none of the songs really caught my attention as something "more than decent". but if i had to pick a favorite - it would probably be "our love was"
honestly, i wish i loved this album. i appreciate how the band was able to illustrate the relationship between past and present, getting more progressive with every song, i think. but at the same time, i didn't resonate with any of the songs. if i had to pick a favorite one it would probably be "somebody up there likes you", alternatively "promised you a miracle". except from that, i felt like all songs were in the same tone (but not in a good way) and i wasn't a fan of the voice of the main singer :( so that's why it's a 2 for me, but i would give it a 2,5 if it was possible
what a beautiful album! i genuinely like sinatra's music, but i'm not acquainted with it though, so it was nice to listen to something full-length and base my opinion. also sinatra's and jobim's voices were really compatible together, more than i thought they would be! i found a lot of tracks which i will certainly come back to: "change partners", "i concentrate on you" and "once i loved (o amor em paz)". i also wasn't aware that "change partners" was a jazz standard written by irving berlin - who apart from being an absolute jazz legend stood behind so many great soundtrack scores (as easter parade!) - idk i just found this particular fact interesting, while exploring the wikipedia page of this album haha
i feel very divided by this album. partially i appreciate how political it is and straight-forward, but on the other hand, i didn’t really enjoy these tracks. i don’t know if i’m not mistaken but the music sometimes resembled something on the edge of rock and country (or folk i don’t know). i found these influences interesting but they really didn’t feel like they fit here. however, i was wondering whether that was genuinely intentional to strengthen the critique of the stereotypical view of america
i don't remember the last time i heard an album so beautiful in its simplicity!! "pink moon" was able to convey so many emotions truly. it is also - at least to me - an extremely melancholic and perhaps - just a sad album, which is what will always draw my attention. nick drake's voice is nearly perfect to me, especially when it can be heard so clearly as in here. i would also say that as i listened, i started to resonate much more with the bittersweetness of it all and feel it on my own skin. i will certainly come back to this record, especially to tracks: "place to be", "road", "things behind the sun", "free ride" (!!!) and "from the morning".
WOW! who would’ve thought that bongos could be THIS good? i’m absolutely speechless after this experience. „bongo rock” is an incredible example of an album that i would never listen to if it wasn’t for this project - obviously not due to any aversion for bongos but i just wouldn’t find it. there were multiple times while listening to this record where i truly opened my mouth from the shock of how good it was. my definite favorite would have to be „last bongo in belgium” (smart play on „last tango in paris”!!). i’m so happy i found this album or rather that it found me, i am also really glad that i finally opened myself to listening to - or even more - liking music with no lyrics. i simply always focus on the lyrical layer of songs, but here i didn’t feel like i’m missing anything due to lack of it, as i did in the past.
i finally got to listen to more songs from the same record on which hits „sex on fire” and „use somebody” are. and while these two will probably remain my favorites on the album (at least for now), i enjoyed vast majority of the songs, especially „manhattan”. i was surprised with how vulnerable this album got. i also want to highlight how the title of the record perfectly corresponds with its themes. this may sound a bit cliché but this album literally felt like how a night out feels when you’re far from being okay, when the realization hits that you are unable to handle some things and you suddenly understand the fragility of one’s life. i’ve had multiple nights that felt like this and the production on this record expresses really nicely how deeply rooted some desires can be. at least that’s my take away from it. i gotta give it as well to the voice of the main singer that perfectly expressed all these emotions - at times it sounded very desperate even, which i personally always love
i have never really done a deep dive into the beatles' discography (a mistake for sure) but god how i loved this! i don't think there was a single song i didn't like but i had to listen to this record twice, because the first time i felt like i didn't focus enough. it would honestly be quite hard to pick a fave, but some include: "norwegian wood", "michelle" or 'in my life" (which i've known and loved for a long time!) i think that the beatles perfectly executed the idea for this album, it had really all the things that a good record should have. i will be coming back for sure
i think that this is a very good record, however i personally didn't find it breathtaking or life-changing. i suppose it might not be completely my style of music, hence i had trouble with resonating with it. i obviously liked "changes" and i also enjoyed "song for bob dylan", i guess due to my passion for his songs haha. i think i could've easily ranked it a 4, if i was being a bit more objective, however for now it's more of a 3.5 if i'm sticking with my genuine feelings. i will also definitely have to come back to it to dive more into the lyricism on here.
