Boring. Weenie Beenie was good. I appreciate the history. Not the vocals. Drums are good.
Hilariously campy. I think it performs masculinity to such an extreme that it comes off super gay. The only good thing about this album for me is that it’s so closeted gay, sometimes the drums are fun.
I’m going to be so sad and disappointed if this list is all mid white dad rock.
This album was way less about music than a strange performance of 1980s masculinity and strange patriotism after the counter culture. It feels gross.
It’s funny to me this is considered heavy metal. I just wanted him to shut up by the end of the album.
I’m sure there are other lyrical or musical feats that I’m missing—but overall it’s stupid
I looked up the history a bit and turns out the lead singer was gay and highly influenced by tom of Finland. Everything makes sense now. I appreciate the album better but I still hated listening to it
I actually liked the album. More dad rock, but that’s okay this time. I appreciated the lyrics that were criticism war and religion. It actually said something. I thought the songs were very long… and it did get repetitive and a bit boring hearing the same screaming male vocals. But, there was quite a bit of variety, really impressive instrumentation, I enjoyed the instrumental no vocals the most, and their slower ones with non screaming vocals. I can see how it was probably experimental and unique at the time.
Still felt overly theatrical and campy and too serious, but that’s the genre.
I would listen to more Metallica
First one I really really liked. I haven’t really listened to Dr Dre or old school hip hop before.
It was fun, experimental, imaginative. Genre bending.
However, it’s still rained by the obvious misogyny—even if it’s sexy or a joke—and the fact that he assaults people and women.
The music is fire though. Could definitely listen on repeat.

Confused by this album. Fun and hilarious at times. Innovative. Playful. Really sexually aggressive. I’m trying to figure out how to engage with very classically aggressive media made by young men at all, especially when it feels inspired mostly by sexist ideals and porn. However, it’s fucking funny. The different character voices were kind of distracting in a song, and not my taste, but it was funny and playful and experimental and that was the point. Felt soooo 90s. I’m glad that this is album was in the list because I probably would not have listened to it otherwise. Not sure how to rate this one because it’s completely subjective and I’m still confused by it
Fun, repetitive. Chill. Impressive.
I usually hate live albums but enjoyed this one. I especially liked their jams and melodies over their other more known catchy songs. It’s great for getting into a focused and meditative headspace. But, I was finding listening to is straight through on my drive to work, I wanted something with more stimulation. It was repetitive and got a little boring, but that’s why it would great music to get into a creative flow with.
I’m impressed with the very clean live recording. And I definitely preferred the melodies and jams over their catchier more well known songs.
I really wish I liked siouxsie and the banshees more than I actually do. Maybe part of it is the sound system (or lack thereof) I listen to them on?
Some of their songs are absolutely great and amazing. A lot of them I have a hard time listening to because of the vocals. It’s screeching. Which is just really unpleasant to listen to even though I think the style and performance and genre is iconic.
I appreciate them for being so distinct and original and unabashedly themselves. So, I don’t necessarily wish they would change their vocals, but I would listen to them a lot more if it was easier to listen to. It’s hard to engage much more in the music because I’m so distracted most of the time by the discordant, high pitched vocals.

Hell yeah. I love old men singling about their sunsetting life. The music breaks down around them while they try to keep it together with their weakening voice. Each song wants to break and fall apart but the sparse and broken vocals somehow keep it together. There’s a special type of sensibility that can make an album like this.
Clear, slightly cold and beautiful voice. Poetic and entrancing lyrics. Highly structured but complex. Feels classically inspired, maybe because of all the beautifully played instrumentals. I can hear the jazz influences, and other tell tale signs of 70s folk. I like her voice and songs better when they lean more into rock and not folk. Although she’s of course wonderful. Maybe Joni Mitchell is just too sincere and too clean for my personal taste. I can see why this would be a great influential and beloved album from the time. I wish I liked it more. Maybe it’s a matter of exposure.
Rating is based solely on my personal enjoyment of this album. It would be impressive if I was into this type of music. Respect. But not for me
It’s great. It’s a great album. I like the grungy psychedelic instrumentals and his voice. I think he uses his voice well here. And I like how it seems woven into the other instruments and how everything is layered and flowy. It’s more engaging to listen to how the it runners layer heavily on each other and interact. It makes it more complex, even though it seems to be that the music isn’t actually very complex or difficult. I could be wrong. Maybe it sounds effortless because of the way they play their instruments. The melodies come through. It doesn’t demand all of your attention all the time—it’s easy to listen to all the way through because it steadily and rhythmically comes to your attention while listening. It’s easy to multitask or think or write or talk.
Flowy. Easy. Weird. Noisy.

I enjoyed the fusion of genres. And liked the hair rock like parts of the music. The album was cohesive, but definitely had a lot of diverse influences.
The drums and guitar riffs were great. The vocals soaring and powerful. I particularly enjoyed the vocals on Which Way to America. Sounded very rock and punk.
The only real criticism is that the lyrics were very head-on. Not a lot of room for interpretation. However, maybe they meant to be very clear with their messaging, considering the time and themes of the album.
It seems like they make their image particularly positive, optimistic, energetic, approachable, and friendly. Without knowing about the history or anything about the artists, I’m assuming that this album or musical project was made as a way to appeal to a general American audience and represent black men in a positive and uplifting way while not backing down from the issues that they faced in their life like gentrification, profiling, and bias.
Almost felt like the musical form of an after school special. But I nice fun one.
I want to dig more into their work.
Super easy to listen to. I can see why this was influential. I listened to it on repeat on accident while I was tidying around the house and it was solid.
This album is one that I love more and more with each listen. It expands my expectations of music, which I value.
It’s warm and beautiful and complex and layered and never settles for too long into one type of sound or beat.
Some songs bring to mind the imagery of a shutter delay or echo. Her richly textured voice, when she layered her own intricate backing vocals on, creates a beautiful effect.
Automatically adding stars based on the obvious passion and feeling behind the music. I didn’t listen to the lyrics very closely, but they come across with a lot more depth and meaning and intentionality than most other popular music.
And stars for experimenting, expanding music, and weirdness. I would much rather listen to weird music nerds than people who think they’re super cool and badass but are actually just bland (Oasis).
It’s definitely not boring. The production seems balanced, and the overall album feels balanced in soaring vocals and moments of stillness and quiet.
I didn’t know what prog rock meant before I listened to yes. But I like it. I appreciate its place in music history and can now understand it as a bridge between ling 60s rock n roll and the harder, more experimental, rock and punk to come after.
I also always appreciate musicians than can blend genres in ways that make something new, not just an homage or gimmick. They did it really well.
