1001 Albums Summary

Ugh so good. The horns coming in on Wesley’s theory. The punch of king kunta. The off kilter instrumentation and wavering voice of u. Cohesive yet fresh at every turn, the live instrumentation feel paired with mixed flows and intonation and lyrics from Kendrick compliment each other to bring a whole new sound. 10/10

Boom bap lives forever

Heard many of the songs but never listened front to back until now. Just an incredibly cohesive sound...the BOOM BAP beats, the punchy, classic Biggie flows...a gem through and through.

The album that defined the psych rock sound…but certainly not a perfect album by any means. What was it with these British bands poorly doing American country??

Classic talking heads but I don’t think it’s their bedt

Defining that 2000s sound huh? Listened to this in a particularly apt moment and it hit, but it’s a bit too moody for regular play

One of the strongest openings to an album ever. A couple duds later on but I truly think this is undeniably great

Some good ones but Elton just isn’t all it for me

It’s aight. Not exactly my cup of tea, but high energy youth angst is a vibe, for sure

Bowie always takes you on a journey. Not sure how much I like the glam rock opening, but a few of the songs (blackout, moss garden) really hit. Neukoln was a weird one.

A boo bop a de dip damn was really expecting myself to be over this one but turns out Elvis got piiiipes!

Wow Jack white can carry an entire album, by himself. It’s amazing how cohesive the sound is but how unique every song is-never feels bogged down despite being two instruments the whole time. Underrated is how much work the drums do-Jack is so tight rhythmically on guitar and Meg has this lackadaisical out of the pocket feel that just brings enough tension to the mix that it’s wonderfully chaotic. Like each song is teetering on falling apart and yet carries the whole way through.

Classic bey, eh? Big surprise was Blow, absolute banger that seemingly didn't get much airtime over the years. A jam tho

It’s like the Beatles meets u2 but not in the best way

I understand how this was a radical sound at the time but hip hop has been so fleshed out in the interim that most of the songs sound fairly rudimentary now. Some gems of course, but I was sick of it by the end

It’s amazing how much feeling and emotion Nina can bring out of a simple melody. Vocal power. Unbelievable.

A good listen. A little sleepy at times but some gems, like early in the morning

This hits the boundary between fun and obnoxious and I think it’s over the obnoxious line. Our house is a classic of course, the rest not worth revisiting.

Aretha at it again. High energy, full of power and grace. Starting off with RESPECT gives into a rollercoaster of emotion anchored by aretha's voice, really the center of the record. On repeat forever

I just cannot get myself to love watermelon man but chameleon is such a good song and the rest of the album holds strong

The huts are obviously good but my god does the back half of this album suck! Also the remastered version version sounds like ass it’s like someone cranked a clarify slider all the way up but really it sounds like the whole band is playing in different rooms

Love is in the air! It’s not as cutting edge as what’s going on but a solid, cohesive album. Turn down the lights, put this on, and invite your boo over

A classic through and through

Had zero idea what to expect here and this was weird, over the top, and exceedingly well done.

Straight out of the John digweed era of epic trance trance trance. A bit intense but such a good listen. Makes me wanna grow up in that era

Holy shit this one is good! Lock in cause it's a journey through groove. 10/10, required front to back listen.
