Tell Me Why
Only Love Can Break Your Heart
Southern Man
Oh, Lonesome Me
Neil Young’s music sounds so raw and genuine. His voice sounds great with harmonies. I love the guitar in Southern Man. There’s great variation between songs while still being cohesive. I was less impressed with the last few tracks of this album.
70/100
I Looked Away
Bell Bottom Blues
Nobody Knows You When You’re Down and Out
Layla
Thorn Tree in the Garden
This album goes on way too long and the middle ten tracks of the album have the same guitar tone, tempo, and style. I felt like I was going crazy and then the piano comes in during Layla (way too late in the album) and is so refreshing.
55/100
Rockin around (with you)
Fooled again (I Don’t Like It)
Luna
American Girl
Took me a second to get used to Tom Petty’s style of singing but then it grew on me quickly. I really liked it when he sang “I don’t like it!” With such conviction. American Girl is such a great track and sounds like it came from the 90s. There are definitely some boring filler tracks in here too though
70/100
Black Heart
Pepita
Not Even Stevie Nicks..
Close Behind
The Book and The Canal
Attack El Robot! Attack!
Dub Latina
Guero Canelo
Crumble
First Calexico album I’ve listened to front to back. I can tell there’s a good mix of styles and experience within their band. Seems like they were able to bring very different musicians together to make a cohesive work. The album starts dull but takes many risks and turns. It actively grew on me as I went through. It never felt too long. The instrumental tracks were some of my favorites. Attack El Robot Attack sounds their attempt at a Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots Track. I didn’t love the lead singers voice but it grew on me when I heard the songs that he sings in a low, breathy tone. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this album and I could see it growing on me more over time.

Nebraska
Johnny 99
Highway Patrolman
State Trooper
Up all Night
My Fathers House
Reason to Believe
Springsteen plays a series of characters that are haunted by their demons. This album really introduced me to the genius of Bruce Springsteen. I was immersed in the imagery and the emotion of each song. I listened to it 3 times in a row.

Pretty cool stuff mixed into a lot of very average stuff
5/10
Wishin’ and Hopin’
Summer is over
She has a great voice and it all sounds nice, it’s just a lot of the same thing.
6/10
A go to for smooth chill jazz
9/10
The lyrics felt so corny for such serious subject matter. She does have a great voice and the music sounded cool. I just couldn’t get over those lyrics
4/10
Well that was real nice

No song lives up to how good where is my mind? Is, but overall pretty interesting. I can see it growing on me over time.
7/10
At its best it’s pretty good, there are some really bad tracks on here though, especially in the second half.
5/10
I thought I would like this album a lot more than I did.
2/10
All of these songs work great as individual tracks but listening to it all back to back gets really boring.
6/10
I’ll be throwing this album on some more. It’s super chill and every track is at least good with some stand outs as well.
8/10
I mean this is just some good old country music. I don't think Gram Parsons was doing anything super new or unique but man does he do it well. I thoroughly enjoyed his voice, the harmonies, and the changes in pace between songs.
7/10
Okay I'm on track 3 and this album is already a 10 unless he really blows it here on the last track.
Okay yes, it is perfect and I love it. The percussion is either so technical or so beautifully subtle and always adds so much to the tracks. The production is so well balanced and immersive. Albums like this is what I started this challenge for.
10/10
Chill cosmic American music with some legendary acoustic riffs, fun lyrics, and some great solos. Hard not to feel good listening to this one.
9/10
It was hard to believe this record was made in 73. It sounded so modern to me. It dips into some unique sounds, sometimes too far for me. Some songs sounded very Zappa. Overall a solid listen.
7/10
Cool sound. Really sounds like they inspired Radiohead
7/10
This was a cool album. I could get more into Curtis Mayfield. I think he has one of the smoothest voices ever.

Yesterday for my nephews 7th birthday my family had a party at a park playing corn hole, frisbee, and cooking out. Right before we left I found a 4 leaf clover. My brother asked if I wanted to go to the casino. I said why not? I’ve never been before. I immediately started winning money off the towering LED slot displays. I won 3 machines in a row! I had until midnight until the clovers luck ran out (an arbitrary rule I made up before going). Just keep pressing that button. Well, I ended up losing a couple hundred in winnings and left with a $6 dollar profit.
When I went home to rest I laid down in bed to rest. When I close my eyes to sleep, I see slot logos seared into the back of my eyelids. Keep on pressing that button.
When I woke up I had an immediate longing for anything nature. That’s when this album was recommended to me through this challenge. I flip it on and quickly realized this music represented my current state perfectly. Longing. Yearning. It made it so easy to fall into the immersive soundscapes created in this distorted, synthy, shoegaze masterpiece. Sometimes an album just finds you at the right time.
10/10
I started this album and was immediately dreading listening to the rest of it. I couldn’t stand her forced innocent, breathy vocals. Then it got a little better, then a little better, then I was actually really enjoying this album by track 6 - Step on Me. Then Lovefool came on and I thought oh god they did this song.
The rest of the tracks were somewhere in the middle of this rollercoaster of emotions. I think I’ve settled on it being pretty good overall. I can definitely see the influence they had on the early 2000s. I was immediately drawing comparisons to Camera Obscura.
Best tracks:
Step on Me
Losers
Great Divide

I was going to give this an album 3 stars but I’m listening to my favorite tracks back and I think I actually love them. Guess they just had to grow on me.
I really like Elvis Costello's voice throughout, but he definitely has better albums than this. I was never truly wowed by a song, but I also didn't hate any of them.
