The album presented was a particular experience, the band addresses genres from alternative rock, with a lot of use of electronic instruments with futuristic sounds, to pop at times.
The vocal style, particularly, seemed somewhat strange to me, being a kind of androgynous voice with many effects reminiscent of a bad imitation of the cure.
I must also highlight that the album has a fairly persistent repetitiveness, it suffers from that, the songs are quite similar to each other and can seem longer than they really are.
despite this, there are some redeemable tracks from the album, in general I find the first and last tracks from the album to be the most interesting thing that is proposed on an instrumental musical level.
the lyrics don't tell me anything, they try to give an image of philosophy using very elaborate words or phrases to say basic things, and almost all the songs talk about practically the same thing.
my final grade would be around 4 out of 10 or 2 out of 5, being very generous. I won't say it's not worth a listen, I've heard worse things, but it's really not endearing at all. What should be recognized is that in 2009 this album is avant-garde in its style.
this critic is not going to take into count the history or influence of the album, I am simply going to evaluate what I thought of listening to it, under my own taste and criteria. Clearly the album was very Ground-Breaking in its time, given that we are going back to 1977.
lyrically speaking, the project is poor and leaves a lot to be desired, it should not be heard expecting thoughtful and profound lyrics. In fact, it is quite the opposite, it describes urban life situations in a very simple and dark way.
the sound of the album is minimalist, with electronic sounds of the time (remember that we are in 1977 and everything that was electronic sounds was something precarious, regardless of the fact that we are listening to synth-punk.) Simple, minimalist and tremendously repetitive rhythms generate a dense atmosphere.
despite this, it was not difficult for me to listen to (not only because of its musical simplicity but also because of its short duration). Perhaps the most challenging moment is the penultimate song "frankie teardrop" (which in turn is also the most noisy and the most edgy song on the album)
it's difficult to give it more than a 2 out of 5, if I could I would give it half a point, it's a 1 and a half out of 5 to be honest. on a realistic scale, with which you could rate things correctly, from 0 to 100, I would give it about 25-30 points out of 100. That would be a more realistic qualification according to the project.
Great listening experience. I personally just discovered Joni Mitchell with this album and I plan to listen to her entire discography.
Lyrically poetic and meaningful, and musically a very polished and meticulous soft rock album, with some jazz influences and subtle synthesizers.
The cover art is also captivating, and knowing it was done by the artist herself adds to its mystique.
Some songs are a bit too long, and i don´t like the second song at all, that`s the only real critic i have.
Maybe i would rate the album as a 3.5 out of 5, but we cant put half points, so i will rate it as 3, cause 4 its a little bit too much.
Anyway, grat listen recomended for everyone
I don´t get caught by this album... pop music is just not for me.
anyway i have to admit that i liked a lot the track number 7.
not so much to say, i can get why some people love it. This job sounds solid, well produced, it mix some hip hop with some slow funky grooves and some jazz.
being absolutely imparcial, and not going for my personal taste, i think its a 2.5 out of 5 well deserved, but i can´t put halfs here, so im more on the 2 side than a 3.
I enjoyed the first 5 or 6 songs, but then I got bored, it's a bit repetitive.
Maybe slowjazz fans will love this album, it sounds great, it makes you feel nostalgic for a time when you weren't born yet xd it's hard to explain.
Anyway, I think it's a 3 out of 5, not bad at all, but not for me.
i really tried, but i don´t like a single song on this album, im so sorry Elvis Costello.
2 out of 5, just not for me.
Dusty´s voice is inobjectable. You can feel that late 60´s in every track, i loved that in this album.
anyways i think is not her best album, i preffer the 1968 "dusty... definitely"
3 out of 5 for me.
very very boring and pretentious.
is not low quality music, is just boring
REALLY REALLY BORING
its a classic that inspired so many good bands like nirvana.
BUT the album itself is not that good, it just has 2 good songs, one being kool thing and Dirty Boots.
im going with 3 stars out of 5, just for the historical value that this record has
Mid album if you ask me. Not bad, not amazing.
just... mid, its ok i guess, its a 2.5 out of 5, maybe a 3.
I really had a very good experience listening to this album, I started listening to it without much expectation and the truth is I ended up really liking it. the album has well-known classic songs by the band such as "le freak" or "i want your love" but at the same time, it has songs such as "savoir faire" with some very bluesy guitars, and "at last I am free" being the slow quota that the album needs at that point. very good, 4 out of 5 stars for me this time.
musica horrible, contenido lirico pobre
un album que deberia estar en una lista de los discos que nunca deberias escuchar ni aunque te paguen por ello.
an all time country rock classic.
I´d liked a lot her version of house of the rising sun, but i hated the last song on the album.
3 stars
I found the first half of the album repetitive and boring, until the song Hickory Wind, where the disc takes a second breath towards the last half of the album. In any case, it is not a job that I will listen to again, but the experience of a bit of classic American country was pretty good.
The most important rock album on history.
An absolute masterpiece. Every metalhead should listen to this album once at least before die.
A good album, not the best i heard, but its just OK. The last song its also the most interesting one i guess.
Its a 2.5 really, but i will go with 3 this time.
It's undoubtedly one of the best albums ever made. It features three of his biggest hits in the middle of the album: "Thriller," "Beat It," and "Billie Jean." But beyond that, the first two tracks are flawless, and the penultimate one is too. These songs are often overlooked but incredibly high quality.
I highly recommend it to everyone; it's a masterpiece.
the first 4 tracks are awfull and boring as shit. Starfish and coffee was the first really good sounding track on the album for me, from now on the album turns listenable, but its not an absolute masterpiece at all.
i really thank god and the universe that the artificial drumming is no longer a trending, i really hate that shitty artificial sound of some 80s albums. Its a 3 stars for me
I did enjoy some tracks, but im not listening to this again
This record got me by surprise, i was not expecting such an amazing album at all.
I highly recomend giving this album a try if you like 70s punk rock and glam.
Its a 3.7 out of 5 but i will go with 4 this tome
I dont like so much that ambiental jazz music, its was just Ok to me. Its like 2.5 out of 5 but i will go with 2 this time
Its really really bad
Boring boiled dog shit
I liked just one song, i think art rock/art pop is not for me...
this sounds kinda like the strokes... and i hate the strokes, and i hate iggy pop too, so i also hate this LP.
i just give it 2 stars bcuz the album is from 69, and it was revolutionary at that time, but sounds like boiled dog crap.
i liked this album a lot. I always heard of minor threat but i never listened to them before, i this was a great finding, a very nice album.
i would give this 4 stars, and well deserved.
mid excess album, i didn´t liked a single song in the entire record... im sorry, this is a 2 stars for me.
I had mixed emotions with this album, between songs there are many changes in style, from country folk, through jazz and even rhythms similar to chamame (genre of native Argentine northern music). So I couldn't decipher the artist's style well, I didn't quite buy into any of his different facets throughout the album. it's a 2 for me this time.
If you listen to this expecting to get some good pink floyd, this is not your album. I dont like it that much, from the old pink floyd i think their best job its still umma gumma or atom heart mother
its absolute trash, the first track is awful and its like 10 minutes long... with the second song i already have enough...
Awfull
i just liked 1 song: "of moon, birds and monsters"
the rest of the album put me to sleep.
2 stars.
