Musically there are a handful of proper bangers on this album. Having these highs on a debut album is an insane feat, yes, but does it make up for the not so good songs on the album? The music sounds good, and you can have a wonderful time singing along to it in the car, or at a party, but in the end that handful of good songs on this album are the only few good songs Guns N Roses ever produced. Besides that, they’re also all complete assholes.
The 80's really just isn't my thing. This album is good, it is, but I just constantly felt this weird sense of how it sounded a lot like Genesis, but without any of the interesting parts from Genesis. The record didn't blow me away and I think a big part of that is that I really don't enjoy the sound of the 80's, I think it's very bland. Not a bad album, but definetely not for me.
Now this is my kind of thing. Though I have te say the A side is much better than the B side, that A side is very good. It's that late 2000's coming of age summer vibe. You can really feel the inspirations for this album, and I think that's a very positive thing. It's not perfect, again the B side is even pretty uninspiring I think, but that doesn't ruin the album as a whole.
Lovely. I am actually a country guy, but real country. Not "I just wanna kiss my fish" country. Neil Young is incredible, his song-writing is top notch. Both lyrics and music wise. He is a true artist, the type where you feel every bit of passion that flows through a record like this. Is this the best music ever? No. It is very likely I won't even listen to it very often, cause there aren't many catchy melodies or rhymes that give you that neccesary serotonin boost in the car, at a party or while you're cleaning your house. But, if I am on my balcony, or in my garden, or in the park, chatting with friends while eating good food and drinking even better beer... there isn't better music available.
Again, 80's not my thing. The music is actually not all too bad, and the other band members do deserve some recignition in a positive way, but unfortunetaly I just can not ignor the fact that Morrissey is an absolute twat.
I do acknowledge the interesting sounds that are present here, and if this is your thing, that kind of shoegaze pop thing, then I fully uderstand why you'd like this. Me, however, not my thing. I find all of the songs a bit too alike, and though at the time it may have been more interesting, I feel it's quite "vanilla". The early 90's obviously still had a lot of 80's in them, which is for sure the reason this kind of sound just doesn't resonate with me. It's why Nirvana is one of my favorite bands ever, cause they just shook things up completely in 1993. Can we please get an album like that next? Please? Website? Please?
I DON'T LIKE THE 80'S CAN WE PLEASE STOP WITH ONLY THESE TYPES OF FUCKING ALBUMS!!! Yes, it was a relevant post-punk/new wave album. Doing this kind of theatrical, swinging performance with an orchestra is interesting from a musical perspective, but I just hate this sound. It's bland, almost every song sounds the same, it doesn't provoke any emotion whatsoever. I don't know what the problem was in this decade, if it was a lack of artistic freedom, or if the changing sound systems just made everything sound so boring. But I'm done with the 80's. Website, are you listening? Give me some good stuff, please!
Yes, finally, yes. This is much more like it, thank you website. Is this the best thing I've ever heard? No. But did I enjoy it? Abso-fucking-lutely. Finally an abum that properly makes me feel something and move my body around. Tapping my foot and headbanging through the whole hour. That is a small point of criticism though, it's quite long. This won't be a record I will get back to often, cause it can drag during the instrumental parts. I do miss a catchy melody here and there. I know that's the point of the album, because it's post-hardcore genre asks for it to be a bit unconventional, but on the B side I just kind of found myself ready for it to end. Enjoyed it, respect it, I will take this 10/10 times over that 80's crap we've been getting non-stop, but not something I'm expecting to return to any time soon.
Back to the 80's we go... this isn't all too bad, it's actually quite nice as I do love R&B, quite a lot actually. The melodies do pop, there is definetely plenty of emotion in the craft, and I can see why it is an inspiring record for those who came after it. But, it does have that 80's sound I just don't like. That bland, cold touch. Every note feels played without spice and sung without warmth. I just hate that about the 80's, and I'm kind of sick and tired of how overrated this era is, purely because of nostalgia. I know all of these reviews are turning more into 80's slander and are less reviews about the album itself, but the website keeps giving me 80's records even though I'm clearly asking for some better stuff, so.. what else can I do really?
Good blues record, though I didn't really find anything special aside from of course La Grange. So.. yeah, I like it, I do like the blues, but after half an hour of the same thing it just seems kind of... boring. Sorry. Enjoyable record for sure, but not something I'd turn on regularly.
I strongly appreciate what this album did for hip-hop and the community behind it. For that I could never say it's bad. However, if I purely have to go off of the music, this sadly isn't my kind of hip-hop. I don't think it's bad at all, but I just don't resonate with the feeling they're trying to give off. Again, incredible album for what it did for the scene, but not something I enjoy listening too all that much.
Same thing with the last one. Incredible what it did for hip-hop as a genre. Reviving the NYC scene, and very well written lyrics changing the game to a place where hip-hop would rhyme a lot more with poetry, which is something that still happens to this day. Very impressive feat for only a 19 year old kid. It still isn't fully my kind of hip-hop, but I do like this slower, jazz/r&b/soul influenced style of hip-hop much more.
Nice record, shifting from grunge to a more pop/rock sound was clearly a good commercial choice by the band. Though the existential crisis of selling out debate does not favor this band at the moment. Songs are good, but nothing special. Actually slightly boring at times. I also don't like Courtney Love. I'm still waiting for this website to give me the real thing, something that is truly an album you HAVE to have listened to. Sadly I feel I could've died without ever having heard this one, and I wouldn't have missed much.
Okay, I know it was ME who asked to stop with all the 80's crap, but now just doing 90's hip-hop for the third time in four days... it doesn't benefit this album. I just feel it's more of the same. Yes, the samples are cool, I like the jazz fused in everywhere. And the lyrics are great, I do really enjoy politically important music, something with a real message and is almost poetic, but when you layer it over a bunch of sounds that sadly don't really provoke much rythm or emotion, you kinda end up with just... noise.
For me, music should always provoke something within myself. A feeling, a thought, some emotion, a conversation, whatever. Just something. This didn't really do that. I liked the music though, wasn't bad at all, I just can't see myself revisting this all too often. I think the concept of this website has maybe given me the wrong expectations or something, because I thought I was really going to get 1001 albums I NEEDED to have listened to. So far, I feel most of what we've gotten I could've very easily done without. Again, it's not bad, it's just also not anything special.
YES, good country shit. Folk rock, one of the best kinds. And damn these people can play. Like I said in my last review, music has to make you feel something, and from the first note of this album I was intrigued. I wanted to know what would happen next, and was gently tapping my foot to every beat. Though I will say tha 800 hours of recording was maybe a bit too much, cause the project ain't THAT good either. Still, fantastic. I love the 70's, it's probably my favorite era, everything sounds so raw and with so much soul. I feel that here too. The instruments are warm, the singing is real, the passion is there. This album is a big YES!
I think wat is very important to differentiate here is the difference between a good live show and a good album. This was probably a great show to be at, but as a recorder album.. good for 1964, sure, but the studio versions are a hundred times better. Not that I'm against live albums or anything, it's just... when you do a 22 min set and half your repetoire are songs from other artist, you're not impressing me all too much. It's explosive, yes, as many people have said before. But, racists and pedophiles don't get a very high rating from me. Simple as that.
I think it's kinda hard to judge a movie soundtrack properly without having seen the movie, so I don't really get why this album is on this website. Production is great though, and I really did like the music. But, I just couldn't associate with the instrumental parts enough, cause it's clearly complimenting something else, instead of being it's own thing. Now that's no fault of the album, but as a listening experience, it can't match what I'm looking for sadly. So, actual good music, great production, but I just can't associate with it much.
