Bryter Layter by Nick Drake

Beautiful, melancholic, ethereal.

Parsley, Sage, Rosemary And Thyme by Simon & Garfunkel
Jul 23 2026

Classic S&G sound. Occasionally schmaltzy and goofy, especially on sounds that haven’t entered the “best of” repertoire. A Simple Desultory Philippic was a surprise, riffing on (and sending up) Dylan and the contemporary folk rock scene. The Boxer remains the stand out track.

Jul 28 2026

Familiar songs which here have a slightly looser, harder edge. Quite refreshing given the quite smooth, innocent tone of some of his studio recordings.

At Fillmore East by The Allman Brothers Band
Jul 29 2026

Pretty remarkable musicianship, but perhaps a little too on the guitar rock side of things for my taste.

Cheap Thrills by Big Brother & The Holding Company
Jul 30 2026

Raw and powerful, with Janis Joplin’s voice matching the guitars for intensity and range. A tad crunchy for me, but with some real bangers.

The Holy Bible by Manic Street Preachers
Jul 31 2026

Pretty dark and disturbing, at the intersection of punk, indie, and even maybe metal. Probably needs a few more listens, and definitely one you need to be in the mood for. But the musicianship is undeniable.

Bryter Layter by Nick Drake
Aug 01 2026

Beautiful, melancholic, ethereal.

Elvis Presley by Elvis Presley
Aug 02 2026

Fun hearing early Elvis still finding his sound. A little schmaltzy on some of the ballads, and goofy on some of the rock’n’roll numbers, but a fun listen.

Parklife by Blur
Aug 03 2026

A stone cold classic.

Tapestry by Carole King
Aug 04 2026

“An absolute cracker. It moved me. It chilled me. It was a good time.” (Wilkes, 2026)

Nixon by Lambchop
Aug 06 2026

An interesting listen and one I had literally never heard of before. The sound was a bit like Bill Callahan crossed with Flight of the Concords.

Heroes by David Bowie
Aug 08 2026
Master Of Puppets by Metallica
Aug 13 2026

An enjoyable if slightly schmaltzy country album, with some instrumental and melodic strands that anticipate the likes of Johnny Cash and Gram Parsons.

Night Life by Ray Price
Aug 14 2026

See review below!

Bitches Brew by Miles Davis
Aug 16 2026

Definitely one that will take time to settle into. A real sense of frenetic energy overflowing, and a pushing of the boundaries of the genres it pushes together.

Two Dancers by Wild Beasts
Aug 17 2026

A perfectly decent indie rock album, but with a slightly split personality. Songs and (especially vocal) styles seem to tug in different and not super complementary directions.
