The Wall by Pink Floyd
Jul 23 2026

I think everything that's need to be said, is already said about this album. For me the pastoral and experimental sound of the Floyd I loved, is missing in action. What remains is an overblown Roger Waters egotrip partly saved by Dave's voice and playing.

Lady Soul by Aretha Franklin
Jul 24 2026

When you say soul, you say Aretha. When you say Aretha, you say soul. Miles above the rest. Aretha is a force of nature gifted with a voice that can split a rock. This record, produced by the legendary Jerry Wexler, has some of her best known songs like Chain of fools and (You make me feel like a) Natural woman and there is not a dud on it. All hail the Queen.

Blood On The Tracks by Bob Dylan
Jul 27 2026

In 1974 Bob Dylan did a succesful comeback stadiumtour with his old mates of The Band. Half a year later he returned to the studio. The sessions in A&R studio's in New York were a stripped down acoustic affair. Dylan was recently divorced from Sarah, something that left a huge mark on his new songs. Together with a few relative unknown musicians he laid down the groundwork for his new album. After which he returned to Minneapolis and showed the results to his brother who made him rethink the album. He decided to re-record 5 of the songs in Minneapolis which led to the released album. Blood on the tracks is one of the best albums Dylan ever made and that says a lot. Every song is a stone cold classic and he sings the hell out of it. Being the best writer of our lifetime, Dylan never just simply sings about my baby left me and I feel sad but draws his inspiration from the old voices of the blues, Melville, even Shakespeare or in case of Tangled up in blue, Dante. Which also happens to be my favourite Bob Dylan song ever.

That's The Way Of The World by Earth, Wind & Fire
Jul 28 2026

I don't rate this album very high. Way to slick for my liking and even the hits on this album are not among their best. They certainly are good musicians but this album lacks the adventure and energy to make it the thriling album it should have been.

Bryter Layter by Nick Drake
Jul 29 2026

Nick Drake only made three regular albums in his lifetime which had an immeasurable influence on folkmusic. Nick Drake was sadly overlooked in his lifetime and never experienced the acclaim his work recieved after his death. Bryter Layter is his second album and was produced by Joe Boyd. Bryter Layter is his most orchestrated album. I find this at times a bit to much and being the only minor flaw on this album. But I can overcome this easily because his songs are so strong. There is fine playing by Fairport Convention members Dave Pegg, Dave Mattacks and Richard Thompson on a couple of tracks. Regular Beach Boys drummer Mike Kowalski plays some drums and John Cale plays celeste, organ and piano on Northern Sky and viola on Fly. Drake's songwriting is otherworldly beautiful, his playing and singing delicate and utterly beautiful. This album is a true treasure. (And I like his two other albums even more) Favorite tracks: One of these things first, the jazzy Poor boy and the stunning Northern sky.

This Year's Model by Elvis Costello & The Attractions
Jul 30 2026

With the hype of punk diminishing, a new generation of rockmusicians like Patti Smith, Graham Parker, Nick Lowe and Elvis Costello caused a new wave in the rock scene of 1978 combining the energy of punk with well written clever rock songs. Elvis Costello was the smart guy of the bunch. His second album This Year's Model brought an exciting rock and roll barband sound with ska inflluences and a prominent role for Steve Nieve's organ. This album contains some of his best songs like Pump it up, (I don't wanna go to) Chelsea, Lipstick vogue and Watching the detectives making this the essential Costello album you really need.

Heroes to Zeros by The Beta Band
Jul 31 2026

I'm listening to this for the first time. What's this, Beach Boys of the Highlands? Not bad but I don't think I'll come back to it again.

Fear Of Music by Talking Heads
Aug 03 2026

On this third album Talking Heads found their true voice and stept out of the New York new wave club scene to find their own unique form of music, dance and art. Guided by producer Brian Eno they created an polyrythmic sound to carry David Byrne's highly original lyrics. This is one of my favorite Talking Heads albums with more greatnes to come. Favorite tracks: I Zimbra, Cities, Heaven, Life during wartime, Memories can't wait and Drugs

Maverick A Strike by Finley Quaye
Aug 06 2026

On first listen I think this is bland fake reggae. No thanks

Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon & Garfunkel
Aug 10 2026

This album certainly has it's great moments but a little too much production for my taste.

Nevermind by Nirvana
Aug 11 2026

On the day of it's release I bought this album (with the hidden bonus track) I thought it was sensational. Nowadays it has lost most of it's magic and have not been played for years.

Smash by The Offspring
Aug 17 2026

Most unoriginal wannabe punkrock. By the time I reached the third track, I had a big headache already. Better listen to the real deal, this is useless.

Live And Dangerous by Thin Lizzy
Aug 18 2026

One of the best live double albums ever. The boys from Dublin are cooking up a storm on stage and this album catches them in a great way. There are overdubs on this album but this does in no way spoil the party for me. Phil Lynnott, one of the coolest rockers ever, is a hell of a bass player and sensitive singer, the twin guitars from Scott Gorham and Brian Robertson are ripping through your speakers and Brian Downey lays down a solid groove. The definitive versions of all my favorite Lizzy songs are on this album: Jailbreak, The boys are back in town, Don't believe a word, Dancing in the moonlight, Rosalie and an absolute killer version of Still in love with you. A fantastic live album!

Debut by Björk
Aug 20 2026

I passed on this album in 1993. Now I realised I made a mistake. It's good
