1001 Albums Summary

One of the defining alt records of the early 90's. I listened to this CD endlessly when it came out and still love it just as much today 30+ years later as it somehow still feels fresh and innovative.

Admittedly, I always hit "next" through the Girlfriend/She's Out Of My Life snoozers, but otherwise wall to wall (get it) disco dancin' bangers that ya can't help but move to.

I never really got caught up in the "brit-pop" wave because it just never resonated with me. Academically, I can understand the appeal of this album and how someone COULD love it, but it's nothing I ever really want to listen to again.

I heard the hits from this album so many times on the radio growing up that I was burnt out on them before I even knew who it was. Of course, that's not Bruce's fault. I've tried to be a Springsteen fan at the behest of buddies ("dude, have you listened to The River?"), but at it's core, it's a very specific early 80's "rock and roll" sound (also see: Bob Seger) that I find hard to stomach. You can't help but tap your foot to it at times, but it's going to be permanently relegated to the FM dial for me.

A lot more "ballad-y" than I remember. My problem with The Eagles is that they kinda fall into a crack between my listening moods: they're not *hard* enough to really rock, they're not *country* enough to really twang, and they're not *smooth* enough to make love to your old lady to. They're kinda a little bit of everything but not enough of one thing. If this was on in the background while I was eating a hot dog in a bar I wouldn't be mad about it, though.
