Album Summary

Leaves Me Blind is the second album by Australian indie rock/electronic band Underground Lovers, released in the UK in August 1992 and Australia in December. It was the first album released as part of a recording contract with the Polydor label. Three singles, "Ladies Choice" (August 1992) "I Was Right" (November 1992) and a remix of "Your Eyes" (August 1993) were taken from the album. The band included surging, 15-minute versions of "Your Eyes" as part of their 35-minute sets supporting The Cure on their eight-date Australian tour in August 1992. A version of "Whisper Me Nothing" by Underground Lovers featuring Stephen Cummings on vocals appeared on Cummings' 1994 CD single "September 13" . In 2010, music writers and critics John O'Donnell, Toby Creswell and Craig Mathieson named Leaves Me Blind as the 54th greatest Australian album in their book 100 Best Australian Albums.

Leaves Me Blind is the second album by Australian alternative rock band Underground Lovers. At first I was not impressed, but halfway the album I started to like it. A second listening of the album was even better. The music is a mixture of shoegaze/dreampop, post-rock and even noise rock reminding of Sonic Youth guitars. The guitar playing is not very complicated or technical, but is effective at to the point. Some songs are a bit to long with some long static guitar parts at the end, though the compositions are nice. Best songs are "Your Eyes", "Eastside Stories" and "Ladies Choice".

Lovely dreamy in a sort of Stereolab way, a nice suggestion.

Not sure if I totally agree with the shoegaze tag, per se, but still a solid indie/alt selection in that realm, even if they wear some of their influences on the sleeve - Sonic Youth…and am I the only one that hears a bit of The Clean’s “Point That Thing Somewhere Else” on that first track?

The users are really compensating for lack of Australian representation. Cool album though!

Never heard of this band, but I absolutely love their sound — feels like a forgotten piece of the initial rise of shoegaze tempered with a stronger-than-usual narrative focus. That said, there is a good deal of atmospheric fluff/filler on this LP that pads time rather than expanding the tracks any, which does kill some of the flow and needlessly extends the runtime. Still, this was a cool listen and I'm thankful to have it come across the feed, cool addition to the user list.

It's completely fine. At this point, this music is well trodden territory with the user list. My personal rating: 3/5 My rating relative to the list: 3/5 Should this have been included on the original list? No.
