Popular Reviews

Signing Off by UB40

UB40, political motivated lyrics influenced by their folk singing families. Formed whilst signing on, Ali Campbell was glassed in the face and his eye popped out, with the compensation he bought a drum kit for the band. They drank the rest of the cash in the local pub. Now split due to disagreements about money Ali and Astro tour signing the hits whilst Robin Campbell his brother is suing Ali, what a shambles. Great songs that tell a story of the social struggles of the 80s in reggae.

Sea Change by Beck

Melancholy Beck. Great stuff.

Hounds Of Love by Kate Bush
Apr 05 2021

Epic album. Each song a story and accompanying videos more like films. Musically more controlled by Kate in her newly built home studio using amongst other things the Fairlight CMI synth.

Apr 06 2021

Like a trip to another time. I struggled with some of the songs subjects tho, a little too much love lost and ‘I won’t stand in your way if you love another’ for my tastes. I actually struggled to tell some of the songs apart from one another! Musically rich with big band instruments and clearly talented Apparently Ray Charles became one of the first Black musicians to be granted artistic control by a mainstream record company, ABC. Reading up on him, he had 12 children with ten different women and was addicted to Weed and Heroin. How he had time to record any music I don’t know...

Central Reservation by Beth Orton
Apr 09 2021

Prepare yourself for a come down. Middle of the road folk, Beth’s voice has a slightly discordant resonance that to my ears clashed in places. Once the album was done I had to funk up the place to get me back on happy street. Cheer up Beth, it might have already happened but you don’t have to keep reliving it.

The Scream by Siouxsie And The Banshees
Apr 12 2021

Music = Energetic, gritty, distorted, crunchy power chords. love it. Vocals = Obviously punk of this era was groundbreaking but personally I'm not a big fan... worth a listen to tick it off the list... moving on...

Giant Steps by The Boo Radleys
Apr 13 2021

I love the Boo Radley's, but this album is all over the place.

The Madcap Laughs by Syd Barrett
Apr 14 2021

Whilst Syd's history is undeniable as one of the founders of Pink Floyd, there is no denying that he went over the edge and past the ledge, waving at Keith Richards as he flew past it plummeting into his shiny place in the universe as the crazy diamond he will always be. AND let's not forget he's got a bike and you can ride it if you like... ;-)

Mott by Mott The Hoople

Out Of The Blue by Electric Light Orchestra

Either Or by Elliott Smith
May 06 2021

Rubbish.

The Stooges by The Stooges
May 07 2021

Rable. Noise. Exception: 'I wanna be your Dog'

Germfree Adolescents by X-Ray Spex
May 11 2021

Pants. Not nice comfy ones either, I mean pants so tight and ill fitting that they ride right up inside you and give you a nasty rash. And they're made of thistles.

Mama's Gun by Erykah Badu
May 12 2021

Lovely album.
