Different, but not terrible. Not really what I'm into but I can see the appeal. Like a love child of classical music and metal
Trip hop adjacent. I really enjoyed it. I feel like I've heard these guys before and liked it.
On paper, this kind of band sounds kike something I'd really enjoy, but in reality I felt like it missed the mark. I think another review said it perfectly that they're like a off brand Viagra Boys. They had the right vibe and there were a couple of good songs, but overall it felt like a letdown.
Very different from what I normally listen to, but still kind of enjoyable. A little slow, but still up beat. Not my absolute jam, but there was still parts to enjoy.
Meh....
I'm not the biggest fan as I find this kind of music a little boring. It's fine and I'm sure plenty of people love it, but it just kind of drags on and on. The only highlight for me was "Back to Oz" but I think that's about it. I don't really see why this is needed when there is already a few Sufjan Stevens albums on the list.
Way more upbeat then the last few albums I've gotten. Seems like a pretty straightforward country album from the late 90's. I know Shania was a big influence for a lot of women in country and she made a big impact on that.
Overall the album was fine. I'm not a big country fan, but this one wasn't offensive.
Really enjoyed this. Great lyrics and beats. I feel like I've heard this before or something very similar. Either way I'll have to check out more from this group.
I was excited to listen to this one as I've heard the hits and enjoy The Weeknd. Overall it was good, but felt like it could have been edited down a little bit. Some of the songs felt the same. It was enjoyable and I love all the synth/80's vibes.
I feel like this album would have been more impactful if I wasn't at work and I was on "a different wavelength". It was interesting and not necessarily what I would prefer to listen to as I'm more of a psychedelic rock person, not so much a folk person. I can see why people would enjoy it and might give it another go at some point.
Absolutely amazing album! Can't believe this wasn't on the original list. Definitely an album I can listen to start to finish over and over again. The mixing, the sound quality, the production value is all just amazing. No notes, just perfection.
This album seems to be filled with some highs and lows. There's parts of it that I'm enjoying, then there are parts where I look to see how many more songs till we're done. Feels a little all over the place, maybe lacking a common theme or point of view. It's not bad, but I'm about halfway through and starting to loose steam.
Not bad. There were songs that really worked for me and then there were a few that just didn't. Their sound is very Americana in a Bruce Springsteen, Gaslight Anthem, Ryan Adams way, which is different considering they're Australian. The orchestral vibe is kinda hit and miss for me, maybe it's just not my thing. Overall not a bad album, but nothing I'd feel like coming back to and diving deeper into their back catalogue.
Always enjoyed Massive Attack and this album was no different. Great sound and overall really enjoyable listen.
Really liked this one. Not metal hard, but solid hard rock with a bit of a bluesy hint. Very retro 80/90 sound but still modern. I like it and I'm glad to discover them!
You know what, I actually really enjoyed this. I thought it was going to be another drawn out singer/songwriter/folk album, but this was camp. It was like listening to Rocky Horror and Meatloaf. Enjoyable and refreshing!
Yawn...... This album is the decaf soy latte of music. It's there and I'm sure it serves a purpose for someone, but good lord it's not for me.
It just doesn't go anywhere! Even the person who submitted this album admits that the back half is forgettable. I'm glad this genre of music had its moment and I'm even more glad that that moment has passed.
Great album! Such a good follow up from their first album. I've enjoyed Garbage for years and it was nice to re-visit this one.
I loved this album! I first discovered Turnstile earlier this year when their latest album came out and I instantly loved them. The actually became my top group from last year.
This album was a departure from their more hardcore sound, but still had that same hardcore energy. The whole album is short and to the point. It all feels like it belongs. I also love how it's not at a 10 the whole time, there were peaks and valleys though the whole thing. So enjoyable, I can listen to it over and over.
Well that was a wild ride! This is so much at times, but also kind of appreciate what it was. It was like psychedelic circus music mixed with prog rock. You can hear Zappa influence with little hints of Les Claypool. Am I glad I heard it and can appreciate it for what it is? Absolutely. Is this something that I'll put on regular rotation? Probably not. Should I give it another go to really appreciate it? Yeah, I should.
Overall, I'm glad I listened and powered through. I can appreciate it for what it is and glad I discovered it!
I really enjoyed this album. I've heard of these guys before, but never listened to a full album. Lots of different things going on, so it wasn't all at a 10 the whole time. I definitely had to go back and listen again so extra points there.
Overall this album was fine. I recognized a few of the songs as they were clearly very popular, but besides that I never connected with anything. I was hoping for a moment where I understood what was going on or connected to a song, but that never happened for me. Seemed like very basic 80's pop. I know Debbie was a big pop icon at the time, but I'm not sure if that really translated to present time. I didn't hate it, but I don't know if this really needs to be on the list.
I'm so glad to see this album on this list. I remember listening to it when it first came out. I would listen almost every day, rolling the windows down and turning the stereo up as loud as possible and jamming out.
This album isn't that deep and that's ok. Everything doesn't need to be multi-layered and meta. They do have some points to be made and there's definitely some commentary about society today, but they also make it in jest and poke fun of it in a not so serious way.
It's definitely not for everyone and I can understand why people won't like it, but I love it and I'm glad I get to listen to it again!
I had to sit with this one a little bit. It was a bit of a surprise, as far as I thought it would be a little heavier. For an album that was listed at over an hour, the pacing was just right. The vocals seemed slightly out of place, but the melodic guitars helped it along. I'd say I enjoyed it, but probably won't be going back for more any time soon.
You know what I was just thinking, this list was really lacking in Brit Pop/Alt Rock bands!
I'm not sure on the story of this one, but it's fine. Nothing really stuck out as amazing. It wasn't terrible, but I don't know if this is something that I was lacking in my life. I've started this album about 5 different times and it all kind of blurs together.
I've heard worse music, but I don't see this as as album I just had to listen to.
Enjoyable overall. I used to jam this one quite often and then maybe realized, I just listened to the bigger hits. There is a few lull moments here and there, so not the high energy I enjoy most of the time. Still it's a good album that I'd recommend to others who enjoy similar sounding music.
Solid Album. Love the voice and the overall tone of the album. I can see how other interpret it as very same throughout. This is definitely an album in which you need to read and listen to the lyrics to appreciate what is there. I've been a fan of Sampha since his features with Disclosure back in the day.
Overall its a good album. I don't think its really pushing the limits of anything, but with the vibe and the lyrics it's something I'll listen to when the mood strikes.
Well that was an interesting one. I can't say I disliked it as I can appreciate it for what it is, but it's not something I'd listen to on my own accord. It's different and kind of sounds like a soundtrack to some medieval D&D quest.
Very unexpected. I found myself enjoying it more then I thought I would. Some of this sounded a lot like Sigur Ros, some of it had a very Bjork sound to it, but overall it was very different from anything I've heard before.
Perfectly enjoyable hardcore album. It's very quick and very intense, but beside that nothing really stuck with me. I didn't dislike it, but I wasn't blown away.
I'm on the fence with this one. Yeah, so the guy is a talented guitarist, but beside that I'm not really into his whole schtick. He's a straight, white guy with an acoustic guitar. There are literally millions of these kind of guys doing this exact thing. There's not really anything that interesting about it. It's bland and inoffensive, so is it really something I have to listen to before I die? Or have I heard this so many times before that it doesn't even register. Meh....
Ugh, really? Is this that important/groundbreaking/different from anything else going on in the world? It's an interesting time capsule from the time of Covid and all the things that went along with that, but looking back it doesn't really stand out. There's a couple of good sings in there, but the rest is very mid.
This one was a bit of a struggle for me. It's a genre that I don't really enjoy and a lot of the album felt very same, same to me. It felt like background music that wasn't very interesting. I'm sure the lyrics held a little more to them, but none of it really clicked for me.
Felt like very generic mid 2000/2010's indie rock-pop blah. It was fine, but nothing new or that exciting.
I'll say at first glance I wasn't super excited about this one, but honestly it was a total bop! It's pure pop perfection, which after a few days of folk and middle ground indie, it was a breath of fresh air. The synths, the upbeat jams, the danceability! Loved all of it! It definitely gave me a whole different perspective on Ms. Jepsen for sure.
