Kanye West
5/5
Kanye West is complicated artist and person. He's created some of the most influential, inspiring and divisive music in the 00's. That being said this is an amazing album. You absolutely have to separate the artist from the art.

This album is a lot. I get that it's deep and has meaning and was the pinochle of Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys. But man, there's so much going on. Too many Neil Young albums on this list. I get it the guy was talented and made music, I'm assuming, people liked. Just like a few other artists on this list Neil Young is a little too represented. This album is fine and I'll say that Crazy Horse adds more to it then just Neil's solo work, but ugh this is the 7th album.... not including the Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. Whatever its fine, not the best, but not the worst.

4/5
Different and trying to put it in context for the time. Would go back and revisit as I enjoy this style.
Tom Waits
2/5
I'm on the fence with this one. I get it, its a cool set-up, at least in the appearance of a "live jazz club". But Tom kind of drones on and one sometimes and I loose the focus of what is actually going on. I also struggle to hear him sometimes. It's like a lot of mumbling and grumbling. The album is different for sure and I can see it as something to check out at least once, but I struggle to think of actually wanting to listen to this ever again.

The beats and rhythm were very reminiscent of the early 90s hip hop. I have no clue what was said as I don't speak French, but it was enjoyable
Grateful Dead
2/5
When I first saw a Grateful Dead album I was definitely disappointed. I've tried listening to them many times over the years, often with little success. As a fan of psychedelic music, stoner rock and the genres surrounding those sounds, you'd think I'd love these guys, but I just don't get it. I've read books about the times they came up in, dove deep into the culture and even "opened" my mind to the "experience". I still just can't with the jam bands. As far as Dead albums go, I didn't hate this one. It dragged on for too long and meandered way off course too many times, but this is all par for the course of the Dead. Maybe I'm just tired, maybe the world is just crashing down a little too hard, maybe I just need another cup of coffee. Anyway, this one was ok. 2.25/5, but I'm rounding down.
The Stranglers
4/5
Different..... Not the typical UK punk sound, but absolutely the attitude. The organ was a nice touch and very unexpected. It's almost like the crossroad of classic rock, punk and new wave.
Todd Rundgren
4/5
Interesting take on a psychedelic album. Lots of odd short "songs" and then a few longer drawn out tracks. I enjoyed it and would even go back and listen again.
Pink Floyd
4/5
Classic Floyd. Loved this album years ago and still enjoy it today.
3/5
Jimmy Smith
4/5
Yeah, I can dig this. Great Jazz album
Happy Mondays
4/5
Very out there for the times, but sounds very typical 80's. It kind of bridges the gap between psychedelic rock/dark wave/funk/post-punk. These guys were clearly doing a lot of drugs.
Janet Jackson
4/5
Where some albums feel very timeless, this one feels very firmly set in the early 90's. It's hyper produced and polished, so it doesn't give that warmth that you get from raw talent. This is still a great album and clearly stands the test of time, it just feels firmly planted in a specific time and place.
Bon Jovi
3/5
Stevie Wonder
4/5
Def Leppard
4/5
Fun album, very 80's rock. Did you know the drummer only has one arm?
Bruce Springsteen
3/5
Seems like a well polished and produced album. Is Bruce talented, yes. Does it appeal to me, no not really. Enjoyed it, but prob don't need to listen to the whole thing ever again
The Doors
4/5
Great Doors Album. I can listen to this one over and over
Jacques Brel
3/5
Historically, kinda cool. Would I choose to listen to it again, probably not.
Can
3/5
Great background music, but that's about it.
Mott The Hoople
4/5
Great Glam Rock album. Seemed influenced by Bowie and his stylings. Enjoyable and would listen again.
Meat Puppets
5/5
Well this one was a gem for sure. I've heard of the Meat Puppets, but never really listened to them. I was pleasantly surprised! I hadn't realized that Nirvana covered a few of these tracks. I also just genuinely liked the whole thing. Each track was something new and I never got bored. It's albums like this that make this project worth while.
Dennis Wilson
4/5
Enjoyable album. I was not expecting to like it as much as I did.
Doves
3/5
Meh, felt like the album never went anywhere. Simple and pleasant, but not really seeing the importance. Could have been like 20 minutes shorter.
M.I.A.
4/5
Emerson, Lake & Palmer
2/5
I did not enjoy this.
Bob Marley & The Wailers
4/5
TLC
4/5
Great album start to finish. There's definitely a time and place aspect to this album. They were so ahead of their time and so many groups copied what they did afterwards. Enjoyable and re-playable.
The Thrills
2/5
It's sticky sweet indie pop. Like I need to check my blood sugar sweet. I'm getting a lot of Ben Folds and Flaming Lips, but without any edge.
Honestly I'm not enjoying it. It's not anything exciting or anything that hasn't been done before. There are so many better versions of this band out there.
Thin Lizzy
3/5
Not bad, apart from the controversy of exactly how much is actually live and how much was overdubbed. Great classic rock with everything you'd expect from that time. Nothing too crazy or mind blowing. Pretty mid overall.
Django Django
3/5
50 Cent
4/5
Great album. So many hits. It's pretty much a classic at this point.
Billie Holiday
3/5
It was good. Billie has a beautiful voice and her accompaniment was great too. Just not my thing, but to each their own.
Bruce Springsteen
2/5
You know its bad when you get the album generated and you're already dreading it. I'm one song in and wishing it was over.....
I'm trying to see this through the lens of a post 9/11 America, but sitting here in 2025 it's giving a lot of ick. I don't want to hear about how great the US is because at this point its not. It's very slow and very depressing. Lots of songs about loss and grieving. Maybe if I was looking for something like this I'd enjoy it, but man this album is a downer.
Silver Jews
3/5
Interesting lyrics, but overall a sad/beautiful album. The lead singers voice is different, but it kind of works. Has an alt-country sounding twang, but feels very stripped down.
Justin Timberlake
3/5
Seems like a typical pop album on the surface. There's a lot of R&B/Soul/Funk influence. It's very well produced and that's probably the highlight. Without The Neptunes and Timberland it definitely would not be as successful. Not bad, but nothing amazing.
Mylo
4/5
Not bad. Nothing caught my attention the first go around, but I'd give it another listen easily.
Kate Bush
4/5
It's weird, it's kooky, it's Kate Bush! Wasn't sure what to expect, and for some reason it all makes sense. I enjoyed it and would listen to it again.
Fatboy Slim
4/5
Love Fatboy Slim and this is a great album. Nothing mind blowing or breakthrough, but as a first album it works.
Joe Ely
3/5
Not bad. Country rock, could hear a little Zydeco in there too. I can hear how this influenced a lot of people coming up behind him.
JAY Z
4/5
Solid JayZ album. Haven't listened to this one in forever.
The Only Ones
4/5
Never heard of them before. Pop rock meets early punk. Enjoyable and would listen more
Cypress Hill
4/5
Great album. Very enjoyable and would listen over and over.
a-ha
3/5
Solid 80's synth-pop. Very bright and fun. Feels like there is some Bowie or Freddy Mercury vibes/energy mixed in. Enjoyed it overall.
Adele
3/5
Not really something I'd listen to on my own. Not quite my vibe. That being said Adele has amazing talent and a beautiful voice. She is a great artist, just not my go to as far as what I like.
Nirvana
5/5
I'd say this album has almost become bigger than the sum.of all it's parts. The cultural impact of this album, Nirvana and Kurt are all encompassing of the early 90s. Were they the first to play this sound, absolutely not, but if you were to ask people who the biggest impact of rock in the early 90s was you would absolutely have Nirvana in the conversation. Great album and I could listen to it over and over.
The Coral
3/5
Listened to the whole album without anything really grabbing me. Not that it was bad or unoriginal, but nothing stuck out as something I'd want to listen to again. Might have to listen again but maybe not. On the fence with this one as on paper it seems like something I'd enjoy.
Public Enemy
4/5
Fantastic Album. From the sharp lyrics to the crazy samples everything about this album shines beautifully.
The Associates
3/5
80's new-wave pop. I don't see how this was any different from the hundreds of other albums just like it. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't anything amazing either.
Orbital
4/5
Good album. I've heard of a few singles from Orbital, but never a full album. Great production and sound. Nothing jumped out as amazing, but it was enjoyable.
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
4/5
Solid album, had some really good songs. I feel like this is my 3rd or 4th Nick Cave album and I've really started to appreciate his work. Probably would have never happened if it wasn't for this project.
The Rolling Stones
3/5
It's a good Rolling Stones album. A few great songs and a few meh. Nothing to be upset by, but nothing stands out as Holy Shit this is amazing.
Röyksopp
4/5
Great background album. Listened to a bunch of their stuff over the years and kinda cool to see where they started out. Would throw this on again if I was in the mood.
UB40
3/5
It's not bad, per se, but its not that interesting. I'm getting generic reggae vibes and struggling through over an hour worth of it. It could have been edited down like 15/20 minutes and would have been more concise. I'll give them credit on the lyrical content, but that's the only thing really pushing this to a 3 out of 5.
Isaac Hayes
4/5
Great album, seemed to go by almost too fast. Would love to give this one another listen or two
Cocteau Twins
4/5
Cool vibes, good songs, enjoyable album.
XTC
2/5
Ice T
4/5
Lyrically, this album is amazing. Ice has plenty to say and won't let anyone stop him. His takes on life in the US in the early 90's rang true then and still ring true today. Musically there is a little lacking, but the lyrics make up for it. Great album, probably his best.
Steely Dan
2/5
I don't think I'm the target demographic for this album. It's trying too hard to be something it's not. There's a couple of standout songs, but overall it's that dorky kid that hangs out with everyone, but no one really likes him, but he's not so obnoxious that everyone wants him to go away, so he's just there.
It's bland music for white people who think black pepper is too spicy.
The Waterboys
3/5
It's fine, not really my kind of music, but I can appreciate that it's well done. Too folksy for me and it dragged on after about 45 minutes or so.
SZA
4/5
Kate Bush
4/5
This is my 3rd Kate Bush album and I really enjoyed it. I've never listened to any of her work before this project and I'm so happy to have finally found this fun weird person. Each album has been better than the last.
Goldie
4/5
Loved!! Great OG drum and bass
Tangerine Dream
3/5
Enjoyable background music. There's some history there and they influenced a lot of people that came after them.
Arcade Fire
3/5
Solid Arcade Fire Album. It's good, but not their best.
Missy Elliott
4/5
Great album, fantastic production. This is classic late 90's hip-hop perfection.
Jungle Brothers
4/5
I really like this one and will have to add it to a more regular rotation. The lyrics, the production and the overall positivity from this albums is just amazing. I wish this was available to stream, so I could listen more often.
Beck
4/5
Solid album, would give it another go easily
Run-D.M.C.
4/5
John Lennon
2/5
Meh. I'm not really a fan. Songs were ok, it played in the background but nothing really caught my attention.
Stevie Wonder
4/5
The Velvet Underground
4/5
A surprisingly enjoyable album. I feel like Velvet Underground has been filled with a lot of highs and an equal amount of lows. This one fits right there in the middle. I liked it and would probably listen to it again.
The Verve
4/5
Thought it would be more brit pop, but was actually way better. Surprised me for sure.
Gram Parsons
4/5
Quick little Americana album. Lots of country twang to it without being too country. Love the duets with Emmylou. Very enjoyable album
Leonard Cohen
2/5
Not bad. Not my thing, but it was fine
Portishead
4/5
Great album, very chill with haunting vibes. Very Portishead. They just seem very comfortable with themselves and it feel inviting and safe.
Alanis Morissette
4/5
Great album! Love Alanis's lyrics and energy. Have listened to it many times and will listen to it many times again.
Laura Nyro
3/5
Not bad. Great voice and interesting lyrics. A little to much pop for my liking.
Pere Ubu

Good, but nothing stood out as beyond amazing. 3.5/5

Great album. Love Duran Duran. Enjoyable and would absolutely listen again and again.

The Offspring
4/5
Great memories of this album growing up. Still holds up today. Great energy and a lot of fun
Shack

My thoughts while listening to this album:
Maybe this will be one of those good Brit-Pop albums?
Ugh, halfway through the first song and I'm already over it.......
It's like Oasis, but not as good, and I don't like Oasis
These lyrics are terrible
5 tracks in and I'm really loosing steam.
Did not enjoy, will not recommend
Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five
4/5
Great early hip-hop. From the samples to the lyrics it all works!
OutKast
4/5
Hell yeah! one of my favorite OutKast albums. Really solid album, but might have done a little better with less interludes in retrospect. Still there are so many good songs and the overall vibe is amazing. Andre and Big Boi really shine on this one.
Fishbone
3/5
This album is kind of all over the place. There's some really solid songs that work and then there are a few songs that seem out of place. When they hit the sound is awesome, but a few times they lost me.
PJ Harvey

The Boo Radleys
3/5
Common
4/5
Led Zeppelin
4/5
Country Joe & The Fish
4/5
Really enjoyed this one. Classic/Origins of psychedelic music out of NorCal in the late 60's. All the songs worked and didn't feel over the top or out of place.
Suzanne Vega
3/5
The Stone Roses
4/5
I really enjoyed this one. It showcased a newer sound leading up to the cultural shift of the 90s. They were doing it before everyone else. Not a perfect album, but one that I could see coming back to and visiting over again.
Primal Scream
3/5
Started out strong, but kinda lost steam. Enjoyable but not amazing
The Libertines

4/5
Man, I'm blown away by how much I enjoyed this album. I'm not a huge fan of the genre (Americana/Singer Songwriter/Country-ish) but the lyrics and the simplicity of it all really resonate. The songs all feel very personal and the stories told still hold true in 2025. Well done and I'll have to come back to this one for sure.
The La's
2/5
Struggle bus
Killing Joke
5/5
Wasn't sure what to expect with this one, but I really enjoyed it. It has a simplicity to it that I find really amazing. Everything is tight and to the point, nothing is in excess. Will definitely be adding this album into a regular rotation.
Joanna Newsom
2/5
Well, this is a thing that happened. She really did that. Is she trying to be like Bjork? I made it like 25 minutes and I think I'm good. Thanks but no thanks.
R.E.M.

Slayer
4/5
The Smiths
3/5
Taylor Swift
3/5
Just going to start with the fact that I'm not a fan. I get that there are millions and millions of fans, so me not liking Taylor is just a drop in the bucket. It's just not for me. I'm not the target audience and I'm ok with that. I'm glad she's out there doing her thing and people enjoy it. Good for them and good for her. I'm going to skim through this and move on with my life. I'm not wasting an hour of my life to come to the inevitable conclusion that I'm just not that into it.

I tried, but this just wasn't for me. Like all art, it's subjective. I can appreciate something and not like it all at the same time.
Hot Chip

Dig it. Lots of fun and enjoyable
Sade
4/5
Really surprised by how much I enjoyed this one. Great soulful sound, upbeat vibes and she's got an amazing voice.
Rufus Wainwright
3/5
Like a weird mix of Thom York singing for the Beatles. I didn't think I'd enjoy it and I was pretty correct. It was fine, just not something I'd choose to listen to.
The Shamen
4/5
Great 90's rave energy. Enjoyable and will have to check out more of their catalog.
Traffic
3/5
Brian Eno
4/5
Way more accessible then some of his previous albums. Rather enjoyed and might have to add this to
Sugar
3/5
Meh, didn't really do it for me. Not terrible, but not my vibe
Sufjan Stevens
3/5
Technically it's a great album. The production, the lyrics, the talent. It feels a little long, but not terrible. I can handle a little Sufjan at a time, but a whole album was more then I prefer. Still it's a really good album. 3.5/5
Simon & Garfunkel
3/5
It's fine. Not my jam, but there's some solid music there.
Justice
5/5
Amazing album, start to finish. Been a fan of the album for years and loved the re-visit. I can really appreciate the whole flow of the album.
Skunk Anansie
2/5
Different for sure. Didn't hate it, but didn't really enjoy.
John Cale
3/5
There were a few songs that I liked. The rest were kinda meh. Glad the album was short.
Beatles
4/5
It's the Beatles, blah blah blah. Of all their albums this one is a little more interesting. They were always way more interesting when they were doing drugs. Anyway it's fun and lighthearted and whatever.
Circle Jerks
4/5
Loved it!
The Notorious B.I.G.
4/5
Absolute amazing album. From the lyrics to the production to the stories that he tells. Yeah there's a few ridiculous interludes, but the rest of the album stands so strong
Beatles
2/5
Ugh two Beatles albums in a week....
It's a bunch of covers and a few pop hits. This is supposed to be influential and I should listen to this drivel? Get the fuck out of here.
The Beatles were so overrated and this is a prime example of everyone fawning over something that isn't that deep. Boo this album. The Beatles only got mildly interesting when they started doing drugs and hating each other.
Cowboy Junkies
3/5
Not a bad album, but very chill. There are some solid covers in here and the overall vibe works. Not sure if I'd listen to it again, but I'm glad I did.
Elis Regina
3/5
Not bad, but definitely not my kind of jam. Very adult contemporary, which was kind of unexpected.
Hanoi Rocks
4/5
This one is a lot of fun. You can hear a little classic 70's rock influence as well as how they pushed the boundaries into hair and glam rock of the 80's. High energy and surprisingly enjoyable!
Grizzly Bear
5/5
One of my favorite Grizzly Bear albums. I have great memories of loosing myself in the beautiful soundscapes and harmonies. Great lyrics with a slightly somber tone. Great album and on heavy rotation.
Brian Eno
4/5
Nanci Griffith
2/5
Not really my thing at all. Her voice sounded great and it was fine for background music. Besides that I'll probably not come back for more.
David Bowie
3/5
Not really my favorite Bowie album. Seemed very low energy and slow.
The Pretty Things
3/5
Not terrible, but not amazing. There's definitely some substance to it, but a little bit of fluff along with it.
Nightmares On Wax
3/5
Great trip-hop. Chill beats.
U2
3/5
It's fine. Maybe one of the better U2 albums, but not by much. All I can think about is the one time U2 teamed with Apple and tried to force their album down everyone's throat. I'm still bitter about it.
Moby
3/5
I remember listening to this a lot when it came out. Always enjoyed it, but on a revisit maybe it was a little slower than I remembered. Not bad, great background.
Ride
4/5
Liked it and I'd give it another go
Otis Redding
4/5
Great album, quick listen, no skips.
Wu-Tang Clan
5/5
Master class in modern hip-hop. No skips and just about perfect album.
Coldcut
4/5
Had to really look for this one, but well worth the search. Really fun to see how early house music like this came to influence modern music. Found a few gems that were later sampled by some artists I enjoy. A little klunky in places and does seem a little long, but overall I really enjoyed this one.
Khaled
2/5
I skimmed through this one. Sorry, not sorry. I get the overall vibe, but I don't think I have the patience to sit through all hour and 20 minutes of this album. The man seems massively popular and good for him. There seemed like a couple of fun tracks in there as well as a random cover of Imagine, which is a little ick, IMO. Not bad, but outside my frame of reference. 2.5/5
Echo And The Bunnymen
3/5
Cool vibes, nothing too out there. Very middle of the road
Shivkumar Sharma
2/5
Yeah, I get it's cultural significance and it's not bad for what it is. It's not for me and that's fine.
Arcade Fire
4/5
Fantastic album, even after all these years. Such a great introduction to Arcade Fire
Joni Mitchell
3/5
Talented singer and amazing lyricist
Depeche Mode
3/5
It was fine, a couple of hits in there. overall good, but nothing too standout.
Scott Walker
3/5
Dude has a solid voice and the music is fine. Not really what I'm into, but I can see people enjoying it.
Jane's Addiction
3/5
Radiohead
5/5
Lorde
4/5
Enjoyable and honestly really good. I never thought much about Lorde beyond her radio hits, but clearly I was missing something.
CHVRCHES
4/5
Love the album, love the vibe, love the overly sweet synth pop. Maybe it's because this came out in the height of my love for the genre, maybe it's because I saw them live, maybe it because I'm just in a good mood. Anyways I think I love this album. Maybe I should marry it?
Everything But The Girl
2/5
Meh.... It's not bad, but nothing really grabbed my attention.
King Crimson
4/5
Beatles
4/5
Not bad, for a Beatles album
Joan Armatrading
3/5
Bebel Gilberto
4/5
Really enjoyable, modern bossa nova
The Kinks
3/5
Different from other Kinks stuff I've listened to before. Kind of dragged on by the end
Minor Threat
5/5
Little Richard
4/5
Wire
4/5
Destiny's Child
2/5
Meh, They had a couple of hits and those are fun for what they are, but overall I feel like this album is really lacking in overall substance. It feels very overproduced and just didn't age that well.
Also what's up with the up and down nature of this album? Lots of female empowerment, which is great but then quickly followed by slut shaming and thirsting over some dude. So weird....
Germs
4/5
William Orbit
2/5
Great background music, but it drags on a little by the end.
Tom Waits
3/5
Super Furry Animals
3/5
Eagles
5/5
My Bloody Valentine
4/5
George Michael
4/5
Great album. I forget how talented George Michael was.
Amy Winehouse
5/5
Tragic and beautiful. The two best words to describe both this album and Amy herself. It's been a while since I've listened to this album and it did not disappoint. Clocking in at just 35 minutes it felt very quick, but very to the point. For me there are no skips. It's well produced, well packaged and damn if it isn't just really good.
A Tribe Called Quest
4/5
