10,000 gecs is the second studio album (and major-label debut) by American hyperpop duo 100 gecs. It was released on March 17, 2023, through Dog Show and Atlantic Records following numerous delays and a 2021 promotional tour. The album is a follow-up to their debut album 1000 gecs (2019) and the remix album 1000 gecs and the Tree of Clues (2020). It was supported by the pre-release of three singles: "MeMeMe", "Doritos & Fritos", and "Hollywood Baby". 10,000 gecs received acclaim from critics upon its release. At Metacritic, which assigns a normalized rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, the album received an average score of 81, based on 15 critical reviews, indicating "universal acclaim".

It is just so inventive, irreverent, so ridiculously fun. There are few things I like better than seeing an artist set out to be radically themselves, and achieve it perfectly.
I have no idea what I just listened to but I LOVED it. It’s pure chaos and I’m here for it. I did NOT expect to like this as much as I did. I’m questioning everything I know. Lyrically, it’s pedestrian; amateur at best. But that’s not the point. It’s anarchy in 28 minutes. Almost mocking every aspect of pop to borderline parody levels. 4.5/5 but rounding to 5. 5 stars for this is insanity. I’m embarrassed but also don’t care. I don’t even know who I am anymore. Do I think it’s as good as Sgt. Pepper? No. Not even close. But i just can’t give this a 4 as I enjoyed it way more than most 4 stars I give out. This is coming from an older Millennial (Xennial) who gave pretty much every 70s rock and folk album 5 stars.
Now this is real art
I NEVER give an album I've heard heard of a perfect 5/5 score. I won't for this one either, but damn I am close! I REALLY enjoyed this one. At fifty-seven years of age, I always thought I'd mellow out.... but, I want to hear more from this band and if the rest is similar to this one - I'll be really happy! Seven Fifty-seven I may never go to heaven! But, at least I got to hear this before I die... Standouts: Mememe, Hollywood Baby, 757, Billy Knows Jamie, One Million Dollars.... ever song! All great. 4.75
Lmaooooo im so glad someone used their user album on a 100 gecs album and I didn’t use mine on 1000 gecs (the superior of the two albums imo). This my or may not be a troll pick but idc because I genuinely think their music is great in its own right. Hyper pop to the extreme that’s very short and diabetically sweet because if it went a minute past 30 minutes it’d probably be too much. If you don’t like it go back to listening to Neil young for the millionth time grandpa. I love basically all the song but Hollywood baby is my fav ***also I said only go backwards instead of less I know the better in my currents notes which is kinda embarrassing oopsie.
100 gec's particular brand of hyper pop is more refined on their sophomore release. Still present is the frenetic and seemingly nonsensical mish mash of genres but there's more of a sense of direction here. They employ ska, metal, electronic, and hard rock elements to create something truly unique. I absolutely see why people don't like this band, but for me, they elevate these seemingly disparate sounds and lyrics to art worthy of examination and criticism.
No.
I was a big fan of 1,000 gecs for its new, everything-at-the-wall take on hyperpop. The joke is much less funny the second time around, though – there are some shining moments, samples, and memories here for sure, but the middle section feels underbaked and tired, almost as if the band is grasping at ideas. There's barely enough to support a scant 26 minutes, and given the time it took to come out I wonder how long the band can keep up the jest.
I didn't enjoy a single song but thanks for recommending it. I want more of the weird recs.
👎🏻
It was not good. It was short that's about it. A lot of voice modulators. I did not care for it. It certainly did not need to be recommended to be included on this list.
First time I can honestly say I'm not out of touch, the kids are wrong. I suspect this is part of a sub culture I'm not aware of, terminally online who's only references are other terminally online.
This I feel pretty confident as a very recent entry, as they are definitively at the bleeding edge of a newer genre. And it is dope as hell, which helps obviously.
What a wild ride! New to me, but I loved it. Don't know if I would get sick of it after a while, but for now it's a 4.5! Thanks to whomever submitted this one!
This album is too good. Gonky electopunk with a daft sense of humour and energy for days. Any time it gets a bit samey, it'll give you a folky song about frogs or a ska punk banger about a bad tooth to keep you on it. Genuinely one of the best albums of the decade so far. Now gimme all of your freakin Doritos and Fritos.
Fun, frantic, intense, and feels *new*. The list definitely needs something like this on it.
I randomly heard one of their songs on the radio the other day and piqued my interest - glad this popped up. Didn't disappoint. For a freshman album - self released, it awesome!
Lively fun
How to get energetic and confused at once? Put on this record of 100 gecs. It is annoying as hell in a good way.
Rating: 8/10 Best songs: Dumbest girl alive, Frog on the floor, Doritos and fritos, One million dollars, I got my tooth removed, Mememe
Nice surprise!
I really like the aggressive buzzy electronic version of alt rock that 100 gecs delivers. Hollywood Baby is just a home run and MeMeMe is super solid as well. The rest seems a bit up and down, with definitely some pretty quirky tracks (most notably Frog on the Floor). But overall, i like the experimental nature and vibe.
Excellent. It's like a SKA version of they might be giants. And really enjoyable. Sounds like a band that's having fun doing what they love.
Hoooo boy I'd love to see people who completed this list, and are unaware of 100 gecs, react to this. It's a lethal dose of radiation from a sentient meme that somehow learned to play pop-punk. I initially didn't "get" 100 gecs, but I later ended up enjoying them cos they're dumb, fun music with great pop sensibilities. You just have to get over the absolute kitchen sink being thrown at you. I enjoyed this, but it may have dipped a bit too much into ska for my liking. Anyone who denies "mememe" being a banger is just not having fun. Favorite tracks: "mememe", "Hollywood Baby", "Doritos and Fritos"
I know these gecs, I've heard all 10,000 of them before. This is a great and fun album, most people's introduction to the band (including me) was their previous, 1000 gecs, they multiplied since then. It's sort of a hyper-pop-punk, that's how I'd describe it. Love the sampling of "Sicko Mode" on the opener, very well executed. Not everything works for me here, but enough that I'd say it's great. Really not sure which of their albums I prefer, but this is a worthy inclusion for sure, very unique! Favorite tracks: Dumbest Girl Alive, Hollywood Baby, One Million Dollars, 757, Billy Knows Jamie, The Most Wanted Person. Album art: Only two gecs in sight, faces obscured by their t-shirts. Not bad at all, very DIY (as I'm sure their music is too). 4/5
Fun & I certainly relate to that tooth song haha
Amiable frenetic pop with all modern trimmings. The reviews led me to expect something a little more over the top. The dopiness of some of the lyrics detracted from the overall quality for me.
I think I prefer 1000 gecs to this project. The influences here are varied but not always right up my alley - 10,000 gecs strays from hyperpop plenty of times into full on ska, pop punk, or nu metal, none of which really tickle my fancy. However, I think at least one of the 100 gecs projects belongs on this list, so thanks for submitting. 6/10
Wow! Weird and wacky… and creative
This was actually pretty cool!
This is... Something. Fast paced, a lot of autotune, some good songs, some I liked less
Goodgood
Hyperpop, pop punk, electronic rock, ska, nu metal. Menudo popurrí. Ni fu ni fa.
This was my second go with this album. I still find it just as frustrating as when I listened to it last year. I like the punky approach but not much else. This is an album that I think has an interesting idea but I don't care much for the execution. It also somehow feels longer than it's sub 30 minute run time. I'm not sure HOW, but it does. This is the definition of a 2.5 for me but that's not an option.
This reminded me of Charlie XCX at times, at others I felt like I was in a Fortnite match. Also pretty wild that the UHC Murder suspect was caught yesterday and we get The Most Wanted Person In The United States. This list always seems to sync up with reality. At less than 30 minutes and some truly zaney tracks, this was a unique inclusion. Especially for coming out last year. Someone must really love this album.
They are good, but they abuse autotunes in an attempt to be funny. It just makes some songs annoying.
100,000 gecs
The earlier tracks are better exemplars. And the gecs are producers par excellence; 10,000 is closer to a sizzle reel than an album in length and breadth. Not here does wider genre play translate to a superior sophomore effort.
Why is this even considered worth putting on this list… Here today, gone tomorrow.
A mishmash of genres drenched in layers of irony. Undoubtedly a unique blend, but it comes across like the sonic equivalent of a novelty mountain dew flavor. Won't be part of my regular rotation, but I have no doubt they will be included in future editions of the book. My favorite track was "One Million Dollars," which was more sample based. If the whole album was more of a collage like that, I'd be on board. But when they sing it just kind of makes me wince, especially when auto-tuned - regardless of whether that was an ironic aesthetic choice or not.
I think I'm getting too old to still 'get' this.
Surprising mash-up of heavy rock and electro as is the electro-clash fashion du jour in the early 2020s. The experimental noises later in the EP are not useful.
What’s better than 1000 gecs, 10,000 gecs? Not too sure if any amount of gecs is considered great but some people love these guys. Maybe I’m just getting older and don’t know what good music is anymore. Or maybe it’s the kids who are wrong. Either way This is not for me. 4.1/10
A mish mash of genres and styles, perhaps designed to be consumed in 30 seconds bursts on Tic Toc. 10 tracks and been and gone in 27 minutes. Excellent for the attention spanily challenged. Rating: 2.5 Playlist track: Hollywood Baby Date listened: 30/09/24
Good electronic beat with vocals that seem intentionally diffuse. It caught my attention that they have a slight eighties feeling, but suddenly it turns into very noisy or unclear music... it's a strange mashup of tracks that doesn't quite define itself.
Only good thing about this album was how short it was. And the song about the frog was sort of cute, but that's not enough to redeem this one. 1 star.
I can’t make heads or tails of this and did not finish
Come on. No.
Sorry even 25 mins of this was too much for me, the winey vocals did my head in.
