Water From An Ancient Well
Abdullah IbrahimGorgeous, sensitive, buttery smooth jazz. Wonderful. Like sinking into a warm, comfy mattress.

A prime example of critics losing their minds over something banal.
Survived 5 tracks. That’s quite enough to know this scream fest is not for me.
Nothing. But. Bangers. Surprising myself with a 5 for this, didn’t want to jump on a bandwagon without truly falling for it…and I fell, hard.
Individual tracks are pleasant - montage music for films at the sad part when you don’t know if the romance will work out or not. All together as an album it’s dreary. Tough to wade through in one go.
Uplifting, great morning music, or low key party playlist
What’s not to love about Stevie, don’t you worry is a classic
Good for its genre, nostalgic, not always my kind of thing

Hurts my ears! Ratamahatta is quite an interesting track with the drums
Brilliant! Jazz funk, constant tap your foot stuff, big fan
Well conceived album, holistic and flows well, ultimately not my kind of music but deserves the accolades it and received
Having read about Merle’s life, I found the songs about prison poignant and beautiful. Beyond that it’s a neat little country album, predictable in its subject matter and style. Surprisingly good even if you don’t like country and Merle’s voice sounds great.
Preferred Innervisions, had more standout tracks. Love Stevie Wonder but this is harder to get into and feels a little repetitive at times.
Would have liked this when it was released but it feels like overrated noise. Occasionally there’s a good track but it feels disjointed.
Haunting and beautiful. Definitely from the heart, both the lyrics and the performance. The constant vibrato in the voice sometimes becomes too much. Not a regular re-listen but poses questions that linger and therefore worthy of merit.
Yes, yes, yes…was a little unsure on track one but it just grew with soul, and lyrical genius, and something I can only describe as “oomph”, into signature Dylan and it’s marvelous.

I just don’t get the hype around this. I know Fleetwood Mac are iconic, but this album is disjointed and lacking in strong ideas. A lot of tracks feel like a test that needed more work. Others should have been culled.
Fun little collection of tropicalismo music with some toe tapping tracks. Great voice and use of mixed tempos and keys.
Suave and catchy songs, don’t know enough about the genre to really say how good it is but it’s a nice listen

Big Bangers. The use of full orchestra sound and voices is magical. Operatic even. An album that packs a punch while still being really fun to listen to.
I understand why many people like Jodi Mitchell, but that doesn’t mean I have yo be one of them. This album is just to folksy for me, the melodies jumping all over the shop, and I couldn’t help but mistake the opening passage of River for Jingle Bells. I want to like it, but I’d be forcing it.
After the first few songs, I was really leaning towards a high score on this but then it lost its way. Ultimately ended up too much on the psychedelic side.
Luscious soul album, very enjoyable. Voice is gorgeous. Almost a 4 but it’s a bit too cheesy for me to really consider this a great re-listen. A solid 3.5 though.
It’s Bowie, so I expect it to be a bit weird. Heroes is brilliant. Even when it gets a bit experimental, you kind of give him the benefit of the doubt of his artistry. I feel like there’s better Bowie to come, so as a newbie to his oeuvre I remain sway-able in either direction after this listening experience.
When I read psychedelic rock on Wikipedia, I was ready to give up on this. More fool me! With the exception of Heroes when they actually sing (bad decision), this is a great listen. Uplifting at times, peaceful at others.
Sometimes this list is baffling. It’s not that I hate this album. It’s more a case of…why does it make the top 1001?? Not into the whispery voice, don’t care if it’s his ‘thing’. Either sing, or don’t sing. Generally this is all a bit emo, but there’s some goodness in here. Between The Bars for one.
A little treasure of early rock n roll! A joy from start to finish. Can’t help but smile at this (even through some dodgy lyrics that have not aged well). What a brilliant pianist.
A surprise 5 stars for this gem on Cuban jazz. Listening to it driving on a gorgeous sunny day may have biased the final verdict, but in those circumstances it’s perfect
Sometimes Beyoncé does a song and you think yes, there is so much substance to the hype, then the next track comes on and after 30 seconds you’re hovering over the skip button…
It’s hard to separate Kanye’s music from his batsh*t behavior to give a fair evaluation. Even when you succeed, you can’t help but feel this album is wildly anti-women and there is much less irony to I Am A God than we’d like to believe.
Full on rock. Whilst I won’t be listening to this again, I have to admit it’s good music for the genre so 3 stars it is!
Close to a 5, really enjoyable listen from a band I’ve never heard of! Kind of Oasis crossed with Richard Hawley.
It’s impossible not to love an album that bravely makes the tonal leap from Without You to Coconut… Stupendous! Every song brings a smile.
Loved all things Janis, enjoyed Piece of my Heart, everything else is fine
2hrs of Metallica?! SFSO was the best thing about this album.
A multitalented songwriter with a tremendous grasp of musical styles, but the songs are all too disjointed to feel like you ever really get “into” it.
This list is giving me psychedelic rock exhaustion 😩
Love Daft Punk, but this is not an album of their best bangers.
Really enjoyable, feel good, smile while you drive music!
Is Carole King the original Adele? Is she a better singer songwriter than Adele? Both questions that need asking, and I vote yes. What a legendary album or beautiful classics this is.
I don’t get it
I was surprised that Cee all Green made this list. Listening to the album has not changed that.
As usual with Bowie, appreciate the talent but I’m not into it personally. Not this one at least - waiting to find the Bowie album I can fall in love with!
A prime example of critics losing their minds over something banal.
Possible the most bearable of the heavy metal ear assault, a deserving 3 because Back In Black is a banger even if you hate the genre
I lacked motivation to preserve with this after a 15 minute opener…
This felt refreshingly different compared to some recent listens, perhaps influencing an upgrade to 4 from what may have been a 3 star rating. But this is really quite relistenable for me.
Ultra funky African vibes
C’est trop chic! C’est super cool!
