Dusty In Memphis
Dusty Springfield
I am not familiar with Dusty Springfield as a singer at all, but I am familiar with a couple of Dusty’s songs covered from other artists like both Son of A Preacher Man and Breakfast In Bed from Joan Osborne’s two albums: Early Recordings (1996) and Breakfast In Bed (2007) and The Windmills Of Your Mind from Alison Moyet's Voice (2004) album.
Another slight connection factor for me is the Memphis/American Sound Studios from several Elvis Presley recordings from 1969 and I do hear that Memphis/American Sound Studios sound in Dusty’s songs on this album.
Being a fan of post-punk and 80’s music. I know that Morrissey from The Smiths also loved the poignant and maudlin performances of female singers such as Dusty Springfield and Sandie Shaw who were a considerable influence on him growing up in Manchester England.
Since this my first listen to Dusty Springfield, she has a particularly good voice with clear diction. I usually do not listen this type of Easy Listening Pop, but I like it and this album does have high replayability factor.
I am pleased to hear how good and consistent all the songs are. The mono release is also excellent.
In 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die, I see that Dusty Springfield’s debut album, A GIRL CALLED DUSTY, is listed under # 0045, so I am looking forward to listening to this when it appears

Pink Moon
Nick Drake
I am not truly familiar with Nick Drake, even though I do have WAY TO BLUE - AN INTRODUCTION TO NICK DRAKE, a 1994 compilation which I’ve only listened to a couple of times and found it was not my cup of tea.
With PINK MOON, I found Nick Drake with a very strong voice with clean, crisp guitar playing. I like PINK MOON a little better than WAY TO BLUE, however overall, this is still not my cup of tea. I do see the appeal of Nick for people.
In 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die, I see and find it interesting that Nick Drake’s full discography is included in the book which includes FIVE LEAVES LEFT (1969) # 0150 and BRYTER LAYTER (1970) # 0191, so I am not sure hiw I feel about listening to these other albums when they appear. Evidently, 1001 Albums think highly of Nick Drake. I don’t expect too much replaying of Nick’s music.

Otis Blue/Otis Redding Sings Soul
Otis Redding
I am not truly familiar with Otis Redding, Except for the hit songs (SITTIN' ON) THE DOCK OF THE BAY and TRY A LITTLE TENDERNESS. I also know Aretha Franklin’s cover of RESPECT, which I was surprised to learn was composed by Otis (but I have not heard his original version). Interesting that Aretha changed the lyrics a bit to reflect a distinct perspective instead of just simply changing the gender. It makes me wonder with Aretha’s version does Otis get 100% of the royalties or zero or is there a split? I also knew the original version of MY GIRL from The Temptations, but not heard Otis' version.
I really like Otis and this album. There is a good amount of consistency in the songs that are covered, and his soulful singing style adds spark.
In 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die, this is the only album included in the book. I would have thought with Otis he would have another entry.

The Verve
I am a casual fan of THE VERVE. I own and have listened to their first three albums: A STORM IN HEAVEN (1993); A NORTHERN SOUL (1995) and URBAN HYMNS (1997) plus the B-side compilation EP NO COME DOWN (B-SIDES & OUTTAKES) (1993). I like THE VERVE and their three albums. I say I am a casual fan because I don’t continually listen to the songs on a regular basis to distinguish one song from another. So, the question arises as to why I was only a casual fan. I think mostly because of the Britpop genre. None of the Britpop bands held any sustained interest for me. I did like some of the Britpop albums from Suede, Elastica and Blur.
After listening to URBAN HYMNS after about a 20-year absence of not listening to their music, I find that I still like it very much, of course, the brilliant sounding and video for BITTER SWEET SYMPHONY deserved to be a hit. THE VERVE provided the most consistent run of three very good to excellent albums. So, for me, with all the debate about the Britpop Oasis vs. Blur vs. Suede vs. the rest of Britpop. My choice is the short reign of THE VERVE before Britpop fell out of favor.
In 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die, I see that A NORTHERN SOUL is a second album included in the book. I would have thought A STORM IN HEAVEN would have been the second entry instead.

Sign 'O' The Times
Prince
I am a not a fan of Prince, I am aware of and liked his songs/videos that were heavily played on MTV: (1982): 1999, LITTLE RED CORVETTE (1984): WHEN DOVES CRY, LET'S GO CRAZY, PURPLE RAIN (1985): RASPBERRY BERET (1987): SIGN O' THE TIMES, U GOT THE LOOK and of course, Sinéad O'Connor's version of NOTHING COMPARES 2 U in 1990. I also did see the film PURPLE RAIN when it was first in the movie theater.
After listening to SIGN O’ THE TIMES, while I enjoyed the music, it is not the type of music that I listen to. I can recognize Prince’s genius and ability to get people movin’ and groovin’, I believe that’s the reason why I rated Prince and SIGN O’ THE TIMES a little higher than I normally would, even though it just ain’t my thang.

Marvin Gaye
I am a not a familiar with the music of Marvin Gaye at all and the genre of soul and funk in general.
After listening to LET'S GET IT ON, it seems pretty good. Not the kind of music, I see myself listening to on a regular basis. I can see where Seal gets his inspiration from.

Cut
The Slits
I have never been aware of the band THE SLITS before, although I am a fan of the Punk and Post-Punk era of music. I believe part of the reason is that the band is known for me is that they are from the UK and are probably unknown in the US. Also, being an all-girl group also probably contributed to the lack of awareness with the male punk groups grabbing the headlines and making the reviews.
After listening to CUT, I must say it is excellent. The use of dub music reminds me of Public Image Limited which formed later and being an all-girl group really impresses me now. They should be as well known as the boys were. Their music is fun, catchy and probably groundbreaking with the use of dub. This is one is the reason why I am going to enjoy joining the 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die is to listen to music that I am barely aware of and give me a deeper appreciation. THE SLITS are no longer falling through the cracks in my book.
In 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die, this was the only album issued in the book.

Bug
Dinosaur Jr.
I have not heard any of DINOSAUR JR.’s music before, although I am aware of them because I am a fan of alternative and indie music. Just never had the exposure or opportunity to listen to them. They seem to be well regarded band.
After listening to BUG, on first impression, the vocals reminds me of or has the vibe of PANSY DIVISION, not lyrically, of course. That PANSY DIVISION vibe gets lost upon multiple listening. I must say the album is pretty good and pleasant, but I don’t see it worthy of being in the 1001 Album selection maybe after multiple listens, it will grow on me even more. If I were to make a replacement for DINOSAUR JR. - BUG, for inclusion in the book I would choose THE GUN - CLUB MIAMI (1982) instead.

Hotel California
Eagles
I am a casual fan of EAGLES having most of their music due to liking most of their hits. I have HOTEL CALIFORNIA and I like the album well enough.
After re-listening to HOTEL CALIFORNIA, I enjoy the album especially the hits: "Hotel California", "Life in the Fast Lane" and "New Kid in Town", however, since I am an album oriented person, the remaining 2/3 (6 songs) are decent, but are not consistent enough to hold up the three major hits. The six non-hits seem almost like filler, but actually a little better than that. I think that is true for all or most of their albums and that the reason why I am only a casual fan and not a die-hard one.
In 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die, there is the debut album, EAGLES (1972) in the book #260.

Colour By Numbers
Culture Club
I am very familiar with the band CULTURE CLUB and the album COLOUR BY NUMBERS. I have CULTURE CLUB’s first three albums: 1) KISSING TO BE CLEVER (1982); 2) COLOUR BY NUMBERS (1983); 3) WAKING UP WITH THE HOUSE ON FIRE (1984). I liked COLOUR BY NUMBERS for the hit songs that it had. BOY GEORGE and CULTURE CLUB were groundbreaking for presenting androgynous dressing style, sexual ambiguity and reggae infused pop to the masses in the early/mid 80’s.
After listening to COLOUR BY NUMBERS, it is not bad at all, but the big problem for me, since I’m an album-oriented person, is that the album itself is very inconsistent. It has four very great hit singles: “KARMA CHAMELEON”; “CHURCH OF THE POISON MIND” ; “MISS ME BLIND” and “IT’S A MIRACLE”. For me, CULTURE CLUB is a singles band because the rest of the songs are filler, with the possible addition of “THAT'S THE WAY (I'M ONLY TRYING TO HELP YOU)”. Because of the band’s lack of strong songs that were not singles, they are the perfect band to get a compilation album of greatest hits: CULTURE CLUB – THIS TIME - TWELVE WORLDWIDE HITS - THE FIRST FOUR YEARS.

Melodrama
Lorde
I am not familiar with the LORDE, but aware of her existence. What little I have heard from her does not impress me or make me interested in her music.
After listening to MELODRAMA. My first impression is my usual first reaction … I was not impressed and they was to be expected. Musically and vocally, she sounds uninteresting to me. The type of music, Electropop, does not have staying power and is not catchy or different enough for me to enjoy. Usually, I give an album about three more listens to see if musically or vocally something might grow on me. I decided to skip the repeats and concentrate on the lyrics since the title, MELODRAMA, seem to indicate that the lyrics might be more worthwhile to take an interest in. Lyrically, the lyrics are a little stronger than the music, I can see the repetitiveness in the lyrics to suggest something bigger. Overall, since unimpressed with LORDE and MELODRAMA. I see a similarity musically and vocally with TAYLOR SWIFT’s 1989. I like TAYLOR SWIFT a lot, but IMO 1989 is Taylor’s worse album. Lorde seems like a flash in the pan pop star. This does not speak to me about my life now or when I was twenty.
In 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die, MELODRAMA is her one and only entry.

After listening to AMERICAN DREAM, WOW! my first impression is my being surprised at how much I liked this album. The Human League
I am very familiar with THE HUMAN LEAGUE and the DARE album. I have it and I’m a casual fan of the band. The early material is interesting but not up to their more poppier efforts. The band has some hits and misses on their other albums, but DARE is one of those perfect albums.
After re-listening to DARE, my opinion has not changed this is a really great album. Every single song is catchy and extremely enjoyable to listen it. It is the most popular HUMAN LEAGUE album and in this case the best one, deservedly so. Pop wins out on this one.

Solomon Burke
I am not familiar with the SOLOMON BURKE; however, I did see him live once opening up as a second act for LUCINDA WILLIAMS back on July 17, 2002 at Central Park’s SummerStage (Chuck Prophet was the third opening act). I don’t have any favorable reaction upon seeing SOLOMON BURKE live.
After listening to ROCK N SOUL, I did not find any warmth or emotion in BURKE’s "soul" music, so I did not appreciate his vocals and the music itself. I do prefer OTIS REDDING over SOLOMON BURKE. I am not crazy about BURKE’s preachin’ vocal quality and his forced nature and there is no groove or swing to the music itself.

The Dreaming
Kate Bush
I am not too familiar with KATE BUSH; however, I have heard a few songs and seen a few videos very recently from the recommendation from my nephew. The overall feeling is that I like it, but it’ll take further investigation and listening to solidify my opinion.
After listening to THE DREAMING, I initially found it difficult getting used to the vocals being high-pitched, speeding up and down, creating sounds and yelping within the soundscapes. It takes a bit of work to get accustomed to, but after a number of tries I did find that having the lyrics while listening to the songs are a major step in presenting the story that Kate is presenting. She is a pretty vivid storyteller, and your imagination goes to work fairly quickly with the lyrics. You still may have a tough time grasping everything but that the love of the journey that Kate wants to take us on.
In 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die, THE DREAMING is the first of two other releases immediately following that are included: HOUNDS OF LOVE (1985) THE SENSUAL WORLD (1989). I’m looking forward to immerging myself in these two albums.

I am familiar with BELLE AND SEBASTIAN and two side projects, having their various first albums and EP’s, but overall I remember liking the B&S off shoot, THE GENTLE WAVES, which is ISOBEL CAMPBELL's solo work and her first album, THE GREEN FIELDS OF FOREVERLAND. As to B&S, itself, TIGERMILK, struck as most memorable but did have much replayability to it.
After re-listening to TIGERMILK, my first reaction was very favorable not listening to it for about 15 years, but repeated listening led to a slight downturn overall, some tracks seemed annoying at times. The vocals are sometimes too fast and it is hard to decipher what is being said.

The Contino Sessions
Death In Vegas
I am not familiar with DEATH IN VEGAS’s music at all, but aware of the band’s existence.
After to THE CONTINO SESSIONS, the album is right up my alley. The opening track “Dirge” starts with a PUBLIC IMAGE LIMITED (PIL) instrumental right off METAL BOX, then DIV take off on their own path exploring similar terrain but with different textures. A great record and the deluxe edition is even ten times better. If you dig the vibe, DON’T EVEN BOTHER WITH THE STANDARD RELEASE.

Miriam Makeba
Miriam Makeba
I am not familiar with MIRIAM MAKEBA’s music, and not aware of her existence at all. I know that there is no comparison, but my only exposure to this type of music is from DEAD CAN DANCE.
After to listening to MIRIAM MAKEBA, the album is interesting to interesting, but completely outside my scope of judging and rating the fairly. I need to get more exposure to this kind if music. I enjoyed the uniqueness of hearing laughter in a song (“One More Dance”), but it was unnerving not to understand why in a song that apparently celebrates infidelity. Simply due to ignorance. “Olilili” sounds like gospel song. Now I’m thinking that “The Click Song” may been something that may have been mentioned in grade school when I went in the mid-to late 70’s. I remember the title or maybe it was the concept of the language being discussed at the time. Also surprised how short and quickly songs are. Does it belong on 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die may be easy to make the claim, but it isn’t. I’m glad to see it been included, even if at the end of the end of the day it doesn’t belong.
In 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die, MIRIAM MAKEBA is the only album included.

Let It Bleed
The Rolling Stones
I am fairly recently familiar with THE ROLLING STONES’s music since October 2018, and the album LET IT BLEED.
After to listening to LET IT BLEED, the album is very consistent with the rest of the band’s excellent early output.
In 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die, LET IT BLEED is included along with five other ROLLING STONES albums: THE ROLLING STONES (1964); AFTERMATH (1966); BEGGARS BANQUET (1968); STICKY FINGERS (1971); EXILE ON MAIN ST. (1972)

Go Girl Crazy
The Dictators
I am not familiar with THE DICTATORS and the album GO GIRL CRAZY! at all, but I am aware of their existence.
After to listening to GO GIRL CRAZY!, it started out okay then went downhill, not that the songs got progressively worse, no, in fact, all the songs have the same basic punk style and sense of humor which just gets tired quickly. Since THE RAMONES may have been inspired by THE DICTATORS and since THE RAMONES debut already included in the book, there is little reason to have THE DICTATORS’ debut included too, since THE RAMONES debut have done it better. I would replace GO GIRL CRAZY!, with TELEVISION’s second album ADVENTURE
In 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die, GO GIRL CRAZY! Is the only album listed.

En-Tact
The Shamen
I am familiar with THE SHAMEN and the album EN-TACT, since I have it, but I haven’t listened to it to since the early 90’s, since the rave culture went out of fashion.
After listening to EN-TACT, I knew I would like it at the beginning from what I remember from it, but I was rather surprised how well the album held up after repeated listening. I thought it would sound dated after a while but, no, it still sounds fresh and vibrant although the rave culture has subsided. I like EN-TACT more now than I did in the 90’s. I’m glad for this re-listen.

If I Should Fall From Grace With God
The Pogues
I am familiar with THE POGUES, but not the album IF I SHOULD FALL FROM GRACE WITH GOD. I have and listened to the album RUM, SODOMY & THE LASH which I like very much.
After listening to IF I SHOULD FALL FROM GRACE WITH GOD, which is a very good album, although popular because of the Christmas hit "Fairytale of New York". I found it interesting that the instrumentals are a very strong part of the album, but I feel that RUM, SODOMY & THE LASH is a better and stronger albumin comparison.

Rage Against The Machine
Rage Against The Machine
I am not familiar with either the band RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE or their debut album entitled, RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, but I am aware of their existence.
After listening to RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, I was very pleasantly surprised at how good the band and this album is. I usually don’t listen to hip-hop/rap, but this combination with metal of Metallica-like proportions. With the political lyricism of Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Patti Smith, U2 and Public Enemy. This WORKS!

Beatles
I am very familiar with the band THE BEATLES and their ninth UK (or tenth US) studio album entitled, THE BEATLES (aka THE WHITE ALBUM, I like the album, but I’m not a big fan of their latter experimental work beginning with MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR (1967).

Faith
George Michael
I am not familiar with GEORGE MICHAEL’s FAITH. I have only really been exposed to the WHAM!’s songs: "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go", which I liked, and "Careless Whisper", which did not make a favorable impression on me at the time. At the time, I generally, dismissed WHAM! and therefore GEORGE MICHAEL as pop music.
After listening to FAITH, I still liked the album, there are some great songs, especially the instrumentals. The “Faith” Instrumental reminds me of THE CURE. I was very pleasantly surprised how good GEORGE MICHAEL’s voice is and the music is pretty good, too. I’m glad my ears are now “open”

Songs Of Leonard Cohen
Leonard Cohen
I am not familiar with LEONARD COHEN’s SONGS OF LEONARD COHEN. I have THE FUTURE (1992) but it did not make a favorable impression. I know that IAN MCCULLOUGH from ECHO AND THE BUNNYMEN thinks highly of Leonard Cohen.
After listening to SONGS OF LEONARD COHEN, IU now understand why MCCULLOUGH thinks highly of COHEN. The opening song on this debut album "Suzanne" is absolutely stunning.
In 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die, LEONARD COHEN’s SONGS OF LEONARD COHEN Is joined by four subsequent albums: SONGS FROM A ROOM (1969); SONGS OF LOVE AND HATE (1971); I’M YOUR MAN (1988); YOU WANT IT DARKER (2016)

Hounds Of Love
Kate Bush
I am not familiar with KATE BUSH‘s HOUNDS OF LOVE, except for my nephew bringing the album to my attention recently, Thanks to 1001 Albums, I previously reviewed THE DREAMING (1982) which I gave it a 5 star review. So I am looking forward to reviewing this and other KATE BUSH albums.
After listening to HOUNDS OF LOVE, I appreciate the two different sides like on a LP. With the second side The Ninth Wave dealing with the subject of water/drowning.
In 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die, KATE BUSH - HOUNDS OF LOVE Is joined by the subsequent album: THE SENSUAL WORLD (1989) and the previous album THE DREAMING (1982) which I previously reviewed.

Freak Out!
The Mothers Of Invention
I am not familiar with THE MOTHERS OF INVENTION (AKA THE MOTHERS) or their debut album FREAK OUT!. I am not a fan of FRANK ZAPPA, but I haven’t heard much.
After listening to FREAK OUT!, I did not enjoy this album at all. It’s lack in a sense of humor and wit that it is striving for. It has a few comments to make, but they are told badly and musically is uninspiring. This is supposed to be avant-garde, ha! Give me a break. It is dated and I’m truly sorry for those albums that have been in this book to have this included. REALLY, this album is so important and essential. I do not see Frank Zappa’s “genius” in this album.
In 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die, THE MOTHERS OF INVENTION’s FREAK OUT! Is joined by their third album: WE’RE ONLY IN IT FOR THE MONEY (1968)

Vol. 4
Black Sabbath
I am not familiar with BLACK SABBATH or their fourth album BLACK SABBATH, VOL. 4. I never had any interest in listening to BLACK SABBATH. I should mention I did see BLACK SABBATH live with BLUE OYSTER CULT back in 1980 and I was not impressed with BLACK SABBATH, although RONNIE JAMES DIO was the lead singer instead of OZZY OSBORNE. However, I do like RONNIE JAMES DIO, originally from RAINBOW a lot.
After listening to BLACK SABBATH, VOL. 4, I don’t know how to explain my ranking of a perfect 100/100, yet the album is not a perfect one that I could listen to a daily basis. There are other albums with less than 100/100, that I certainly could listen to on a daily basis, but not this. On another given day I could rank all the songs a “5” and on another a “1” (although, rather unlikely). The point is all the songs musically sound the same. Yes, the couple of instrumentals are a nice touch. Lyrically they do touch upon different themes/topics, but not varied too far from the rest. So, take this ranking with a grain of salt on this particular day. I would have like to have seen more variation in the songs in order to give a truer test as to the artistry of the band. So I’m not giving the band a “5” for now, until I explore the other albums.

Bringing It All Back Home
Bob Dylan
I am familiar with BOB DYLAN and his fifth album BRINGING IT ALL BACK HOME, which I have and like very much.
After listening to BRINGING IT ALL BACK HOME, I still find Dylan to be one of the most consistent songwriter of his and our generation. He is not everyone’s cup of tea. The imagery expressed in DYLAN’s is startling and surreal.
In 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die, besides BOB DYLAN - BRINGING IT ALL BACK HOME, there are six other albums listed: THE FREEWHEELIN’ BOB DYLAN (1963); HIGHWAY 61 REVISITED (1965); BLONDE ON BLONDE (1966); BLOOD ON THE TRACKS (1975); TIME OUT OF MIND (1997); BOOTLEG SERIES VOL.4 LIVE 1966 (1998)

Dig Me Out
Sleater-Kinney
I am not familiar with SLEATER-KINNEY or their third album DIG ME OUT at all. I’m not into the Riot Grrrl movement, except for the exposure and loving THE SLITS’ CUT from the 1001 Albums Generator. I know THE SLITS are more an inspiration to the Riot Grrrl movement rather than being part of the movement itself. The only other indirect exposure I have with the band prior to listening to DIG ME OUT is that I am aware of and like CARRIE BROWNSTEIN very much as an actor from the television series PORTLANDIA.
After listening to DIG ME OUT, this album is very good, but it lacks that special something.

Caetano Veloso
Caetano Veloso
I am not familiar with CAETANO VELOSO and his debut solo album CAETANO VELOSO, because I’m not been exposed to Brazilian music.
After listening to CAETANO VELOSO, this album is pleasant to listen to, but it is difficult to judge a foreign language album where one does not understand that is being said. The reviewer can only judge the beauty of the music and how the vocals flow and hopefully, one can get the gist of what is being expressed. I can appreciate the Gaelic beauty of songs from CLANNAD, in 1001 Albums, I was previously exposed to South African MIRIAM MAKEBA, where I had the same problem trying to evaluate a foreign language album (at least, MIRIAM MAKEBA had some English songs which
I could evaluate along with the foreign language songs)

I am not familiar with MANIC STREET PREACHERS and their third album THE HOLY BIBLE at all. So this is my first time hearing the band.
After listening to THE HOLY BIBLE, this album is a difficult one to review. Lyrically, the band has impressive and important points of view to tell their audience, however, for me, musically and vocally the band does not serve the lyrics justice. Musically and vocally, the band is rather generic and uninteresting. They do not have the NINE INCH NAILS ability to get their point across either musically and/or vocally, so the album is a disappointment because the potential (lyric-wise) was there. If the band had better vocals and more varied musicianship, the album could be close to a masterpiece or a “5”.
In 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die, with MANIC STREET PREACHERS - THE HOLY BIBLE, their fourth album, EVERYTHING MUST GO (1996) is also listed.

Risque
CHIC
I am not familiar with CHIC and their third album RISQUÉ. As a punk / post-punk listener, I remember distinctly there being an anti-disco vibe in the late 70’s here in America, so this will be my first disco album that I’ve listened to.
After listening to RISQUÉ, this album is decent. First, surprised that how much “Good Times” influenced QUEEN’s “Another One Bites The Dust”. Also surprised that the songs started out on the longish running time.

A Rush Of Blood To The Head
Coldplay
I am vaguely familiar with COLDPLAY having and listening to their debut album, PARACHUTES, but not their second album A RUSH OF BLOOD TO THE HEAD. I do not consider myself a fan as I was initially disappointed with PARACHUTES overall.
After listening to A RUSH OF BLOOD TO THE HEAD, this album is very well done and pleasant to listen to, but it is not my cup of tea. COLDPLAY is musically competent, and CHRIS MARTIN sings well, but I need personality, dirt, grit, variation, and a host of other characteristics that for me make up a good song that appeals to me. Similar to me experience with NICK DRAKE whom I’ve gotten to like very much after I made my ranking for PINK MOON. This case I’m giving COLDPLAY the benefit of the doubt, because in the future I might “get it”.

Teen Dream
Beach House
I am not familiar with and never heard of BEACH HOUSE and their third album, TEEN DREAM at all.
After listening to TEEN DREAM multiple times, I really the soft, clear vocals and the haunting musicianship that this album gives us. But I struggle with the album as a whole, while the vocals are exquisite, and the lyrics are stream-of-consciousness, and both really work well together. I have a problem with the musicality at the beginning of the album I was almost falling asleep, not out of boredom, but rather the lack of variety, as the album progressed I was able to get the musicality and the flow the album was much better, hence the higher score on the songs. A interesting and unusual album, almost like a Kate Bush with stream-of-consciousness lyrics rather than storytelling.
