Kala by M.I.A.

I used to be unsure about M.I.A., some of her songs were great but her singing voice grated on me a little. This album converted me. There are a couple of tracks I'm less into in but so many are brilliant! Mango Pickle Down River and Jimmy are incredibly fun, others like Come Down, Boyz, Hussel etc. really give the album strength. One trait that holds for every track on the album is how engaging and interesting they are. Absolutely found a spot in my collection.

Machine Head by Deep Purple
Jan 17 2022

Alright, a few classics. You can hear that they were in the process of transforming the genre, but still a bit cheesy to my modern ears. Highway Star is decent, Smoke on the Water gets a lot of hype but in my opinion both of these pale in comparison to the slow blues close of the album 'When a Blind Man Cries'

Wild Is The Wind by Nina Simone
Jan 18 2022

Beautiful music. Great blues as always from Nina.

Pornography by The Cure
Jan 19 2022

Not bad, a bit dull in my opinion.

Bryter Layter by Nick Drake
Jan 20 2022

Really sweet, chill music. Every song was consistently great, all paired with haunting vocals.

Nevermind by Nirvana
Jan 22 2022

Classic album with some great songs. Slightly overplayed but we'll deserved.

Let Love Rule by Lenny Kravitz
Jan 24 2022

Kravitz' 80s/90s take on 60s hippie rock. Good but not overwhelming in any way. Very easy listening classic rock.

Jan 25 2022

Very nostalgic indie rock. Really holds up unlike a lot of indie music of the time which sounds cheesy these days.

Easy listening progressive soul. Similar to - but not quite as catchy as - Stevie Wonder. Some songs (Wishing Well) are pretty fun but others are less memorable and makes the album feel a little long in my opinion. The more engaging fun songs don't quite make up for the cheesier overarching story of the record.

More Specials by The Specials
Jan 27 2022

Pretty good. Difficult to make ska music which ages well in my opinion, this album is probably as good as it gets.

Dust by Screaming Trees
Jan 28 2022

Pretty good. All songs are enjoyable but not mind blowing.

The Cars by The Cars
Jan 29 2022

Maybe I need to give it another listen but this album seemed to blur into one long bland classical rock track. Good in general but nothing stood out to me.

Play by Moby
Jan 30 2022

What an album! Only knew the song "Extreme Ways" before this so this was a revelation. Such a variety of sound and feeling across the record but it melds so well. I'll definitely be listening to this more.

Rattus Norvegicus by The Stranglers
Jan 31 2022

Mixed thoughts. Good early punk music, some good songs, some less interesting tracks.

Nowhere by Ride
Feb 02 2022

Easy to listen to, but nothing really stood out.

BEYONCÉ by Beyoncé
Feb 03 2022

Pretty decent but not my style. Objectively good work though.

Life's Too Good by The Sugarcubes
Feb 04 2022

Really enjoyed. Bizarre and fascinating, loved the mischievous feel and rhythms.

Superfuzz Bigmuff by Mudhoney
Feb 06 2022

Scuzzy rock, not particularly interesting musically or lyrically. Not for me.
