Okay SO! Did I enjoy the sound of this album? Yes definitely! Did I enjoy some of the lyrics? Yes! Did I enjoy all of the lyrics? Fuck no! (but that's kind of the point right?) Eminem's storytelling is so good and the songs are so catchy it does hold my attention, even if the misogyny does get a bit tiring. Last couple of songs lost me a bit but otherwise I enjoyed this more than I expected
Obsessed with the melodrama of I-Spy OBVIOUSLY Common People and Disco 2000 are absolute classics I didn't love all of it but also I feel like this is one that will grow on me
I am thoroughly obsessed with this album I first got into this album when I was about 17 and it felt incredibly cathartic during an absolute shitshow time in my life, so it will always be special to me for that. And it's never grown old!!! Despite the darkness and weirdness of some of the lyrics, screaming along to them will always give me a big serotonin boost Its just so bloody good and an easy 5/5 for me Fave bits: literally all of it? Okay maybe the bit in Gouge Away when he screams "I break the WAAAAAAALLS"
I actually really enjoyed the bit where he yelled about no chocolates in the box! Also I love the way the guitar sounds all twingly and pretty
I've discovered that I'm easily pleased, if I can have a wee boogie to it then I'm happy, first song is boppy if a bit cheesy Also the guy in the red jumper is definitely grabbing balls Find Somebody: MMMMM MARACAS!!! Is this album all about loving somebody like you?? Me?? I'm So Happy Now is not suitable for Veganuary because CHEESE How Can I Be Sure: about loving somebody like you but also UNCERTAIN about it?!?! Quite like this one though Groovin: nice and chill, plus a bit of harmonica! Feel like this would be a good morning wakeup song If You Knew: god it's all a bit repetitive now isn't it I Don't Love You Anymore: dun dun DUNNNN!!! A PLOT TWIST?!?!?! You Better Run: Ooooooh a bit of DRAMA! It's quite nice because it's not sickly sweet like a lot of this album End notes: honestly I find a lot of it a bit naff and I don't fully vibe with it but it grew on me towards the end??? And on relisten?? I might adore it by the end of the week lol
That's Alright: 0/10 for relationship advice Enjoyed this, got a wee bit lost in the middle but the last two songs were very pretty
OVERALL I liked this one a lot! I think it's similar to a lot of stuff I listened to when I was smol Chlo, so there's a bit of nostalgia in there for me, but I think it's a good version of what it is (if that makes sense??) Somehow I missed Alice In Chains when I was in my grungy phase...lets go Them Bones: c r u n c h y (also did NOT age well in the context of Layne Staleys death aaaaaaa don't Google it its bloody tragic) Rain When I Die: I like the melody in the chorus where he goes \"I think its gonna raaAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIyaaaiyaaaaiyaaaaiyaaaaainnnnn\" Down In A Hole: props for rhyming \"hole\" with \"small\" Sickman: really like the twisty time change (not sure this song needed to be as long as it is though, it's getting a bit repetitive now) Rooster: I'm a sucker for an intro with this floaty guitar effect on it (what's it called?? Music people help pls??) ooooo I also like this guitar about 3 mins in that goes WHA WHA WHA WHAAAA (I did listen to the rest of the album eventually but I didn't write as I went)
Immediately I groaned when I saw Morrissey lol oopsie I've never been a fan of The Smiths apart from like two songs, and I've never really listened to his solo stuff. But I tried to keep an open mind!! Pros: - I didn't immediately hate it as much as I thought I would - I Know It's Gonna Happen Someday is kind of pretty?? - it's not that long an album Cons - Morrissey has SUCH A BLOODY WHINEY VOICE - I tuned out after about 3 songs - Listening to Morrissey banging on about how "London is dead" and "we're the last British people" brings out a little eyeroll from me every time
Maybe I'm biased because I'm listening to this while walking and that puts me in a good mood, but this is absolutely *chefs kiss* I feel like I've been steamrollered and I mean that in the best possible way Spellbound is an EXCELLENT intro and everything else just flows from there, I particularly love the bounciness of Monitor! Basically it's my favourite album on here so far (I know we're only a few days in but hey)
MYYYYY MYYYYY MISS AMERICAN PIEEEEEE (I have been informed by Cav that this is actually "bye bye Miss American Pie" and since I know he doesn't get opportunities to correct me on lyrics very often I thought I would broadcast that here) Enjoyed this!!
Really enjoyed this! Lauryn's vocals for me are just mmmmmmMMMMMMMMMMMM
The first album I've already heard!!! And I already know it's a 5/5 for me!!! Excited to relisten though!!! I adore the changes in pace and energy, the floaty instrumentals in the quieter bits are so dreamy and gorgeous, and the guitars in the louder bits are SO BLOODY GOOD!! Heck I forgot Silverfuck is almost 9min long, it just flies by (for me anyway) because it is so COOL I may be biased because this is an album I've been coming back to regularly since I was...15? There's a reason for that though
Really enjoyed this!! Felt a bit slow at first but picked up around 3 songs in and then I was IN! I'd Rather Be The Devil was a highlight, also liked the way he sings in Go Down Easy
Okay SO! Did I enjoy the sound of this album? Yes definitely! Did I enjoy some of the lyrics? Yes! Did I enjoy all of the lyrics? Fuck no! (but that's kind of the point right?) Last couple of songs lost me a bit but otherwise I enjoyed this more than I expected
EEEEEEEEE ANOTHER ONE I ADORE!!! Personal highlights include: - Tunnels (gorgeous opening track, makes me feel like I'm in a snowy cabin) - Power Out (particularly the bridge building to "IS IT A DREAM? IS IT A LIE?" and everything after that) - Crown of Love is maybe (maybe?) my favourite song on here, it's just so lovely and again the buildup is so good! - Wake Up (obviously) - In The Backseat (makes me Big Emotional and reminds me of being a little kid, well, in the backseat) I think I gravitate more towards the songs with big dramatic swelling instrumentals and vocals rather than the quieter and slower songs (though these are still ridiculously beautiful and I love them too)
Took me a little while to warm up to this but it really grew on me once I was a few songs in!
I bought this album from one of those second hand CD shops where you could get big bundles of CDs for like a quid each in June 2013, on the day before my school prom. As a result, to me, this album sounds like me, aged 15, running around having a big fun time in the summer after exams. Without getting too personal, 2013 feels for me like my last year of proper childhood simplicity?? And this album reminds me of that even though the lyrics are very much not about that Okay RIGHT enough about me, what about the music?? The guitar solos are SO FULL OF ENERGY they're big and bouncy and amazing!! The Modern Age, Alone Together, Last Nite, all of them, they are BLOODY EXCELLENT Hard to Explain makes me very happy Someday is literally a sunny afternoon on the beach Can't really think of a dud on this one, I adore it
Enjoyable and boppy but immediately left my mind when I finished it True Confessions is pretty cool Obviously Teenage Kicks is a classic and absolutely 10/10
Again, I am a simple gal with simple wishes, and if I can dance to it then I will enjoy it. I can most certainly dance to this, and so I enjoy it a lot! Tim Buckley's voice is so bloody good and the instrumentals are so FULL WOO
I'm here and I'm listening and I'm enjoying bits of it but a lot of the time I'm wishing I was listening to The Fat of the Land instead. I know Keith Flint (RIP legend) didn't really start doing vocals until the next album and I think this album really misses that. Maybe I'm biased because I'm used to hearing The Prodigy with him and also because I was listening to this during a shit day at work, lol The guitar in Their Law is NOICE OOH 3 Kilos is a sweet little change up!!
I went into this aware that this is considered one of the best albums of all time by many MANY people, but also feeling like I've never really \"got\" Pink Floyd. Like I've listened and enjoyed bits but I've never got the hype... OOF I think I get it now The atmosphere of this whole album is gorgeous, all lush and dramatic and cool. I don't have much to say other than I bloody love it
SOLID BOPS An album that was huuuge for me growing up, and still holds up SO WELL I forgot how much I love the energy of Perhaps Vampires Is A Bit Strong But... A Certain Romance is such a perfect closer I can't list faves because they're all faves
I just really really really liked the sound of all of this I love the flute sounds on Morgenspaziergang So much of this album sounds warm and familiar
I liked this a lot, I mean I'm a fan of both Brian Eno and David Byrne and this has a lot of both of them in it, so it makes sense
I never actually listened to this album in full until the first Covid lockdown, and despite all the stress and weirdness of that time, this album reminds me of sunny afternoons flopped in the garden doing nice embroidery things. Don't Stop felt SO HOPEFUL at that time!!! Faves: Gold Dust Woman, The Chain, Dreams (also I don't think this is on the official track list but I am OBSESSED with Silver Springs, it gives me the tinglies every time)
Absolutely 10/10 for me I remember being 17 and obsessing over Fiona's vocals in Shadowboxer and Criminal, and then in lockdown I came back to this album after years. Not to be dramatic but Sleep to Dream felt like a mantra to me when I was stuck at home trying to plan out my next steps and keep my head above water
I enjoyed this, some bits sounded a bit samey but some bits were better than others. At the same time I know that this album definitely inspired some of my favourite music which is huge!!! I probably won't come back to it anytime soon but I still enjoyed! Also I listened to Anarchy in the UK while I was walking home from work and my paper bag containing a big box of donuts split open in the pouring rain...absolute anarchy
There Goes The Fear makes me happy, I didn't know who it was by until now. The rest gives me slightly Coldplay energy and I don't think I mean that in a good way
This was nice, even though its not really my thing, I'm sure it's influential and fabulous and all that stuff too but it was nice background music while I cooked
Oh GOD I remember listening to this album when Cav and I first moved into our flat, happy memories of bopping to Gimme Shelter in our brand new kitchen With that said, apart from the first and last songs, the rest is just...eh. I knew I'd listened to this full album before, and coming back to it, all I could remember was "when the traaaaaaaaaaaain left the staaaaaaaatioooooooon" I really like the instrumental on Monkey Man though
Really really really enjoyed this a lot!!
Very nice, obsessed w Lauryn's voice and lyrics as always Only thing is that it's a bit L O N G
I like bits of it but I don't love the overall thing
Enjoyed this way way more than I thought I would, especially on second listen At first the You Really Got Me cover shook me to my core and not in a good way, but now I think it's fun Little Dreamer and Atomic Punk are *chefs kiss* my faves Ice Cream Man is absolutely not what I was expecting from this album but I kind of love it lol its jokes
Sometimes I thought "hmm this is nice chill background" and other times I thought "fucking hell this is naff" and I think the latter outweighed the former
Obsessed with the melodrama of I-Spy OBVIOUSLY Common People and Disco 2000 are absolute classics I didn't love all of it but also I feel like this is one that will grow on me
What's this?? Me not immediately slapping a 5 on our first Bowie album? I ADORE this album, there are bops from start to finish, attempting to sing all of the bits from Right all at once is one of my favourite past times, songs like Young Americans and Fame are absolutely top tier, BUT!!! I think it's just a little bit off from the other Bowie albums on this list! (also the cover of Across the Universe has always grated me a little bit, perhaps I've been spoiled by the Fiona Apple version which will always be my favourite version)
Absolutely bibbity bobbity bops Hadn't listened to this in a while but I know that I loved it! Was a bit obsessed while I was in Australia WHAT A BLOODY INTRO!! Candle in the Wind is just devastating Wowza I forgot how absolutely stacked this album is, obviously Bennie and the Jets absolutely slaps Goodbye Yellow Brick Road will always have a shiny emotional place in my brain I think, it's so short and yet it feels like a full story (I remember listening to it on loop on the metro in Sydney when I was feeling a bit homesick and weird) Oh the intro to Grey Seal is fabby!! Heck I remember this song now, its all fabby My attention started to drift a bit towards the end, it is quite a long album, but it is solid
Bloody ell I love this I read the book when I was about 16 and though I've never seen the movie, I imagine this fits it perfectly, and listening to this makes me want to watch the movie
OOOOOOOOOOOOH FUCK YES I adore this album so much, I would give it a 6 if I could, I just love the emotion and the energy of it. An absolute lifesaver during the first Covid lockdown, captured the frustration and weirdness down to a T, but also the excitement of new things coming!
EEEEEEEEEEE An obvious 5* for me, this album brings me so much joy! I was going to start listing favourites but my brain just ran through the entire tracklist lol Life on Mars is absolute perfection I'd forgotten how pretty Eight Line Poem is, the instrumentals are gorgeous INJECT THE ENERGY OF QUEEN BITCH INTO MY VEINS The Bewlay Brothers gives me chills every time I listen without fail, especially when the instrumental *expands* (you know what I mean)
