I Am a Bird Now by Antony and the Johnsons

I was NOT expecting this. This music felt so personal, like reading someone's diary. They have a unique viewpoint of a trans life. His voice and style remind me of a mix between Nina Simone and Devendra Banhart. The instrumentals felt expansive and had a live-sounding quality. Beautiful. Unique.

Better than expected. Felt like the first of their genre (electronic indie) & appreciated it as such, but much of it felt uninspired - probably because they helped invent it.

Abraxas by Santana
Feb 11 2022

CLASSIC FOR A REASON! Love this album.

good kid, m.A.A.d city by Kendrick Lamar
Feb 14 2022

Iconic album. Creative beats, lyrics, mood. Poet at heart.

Kind Of Blue by Miles Davis
Feb 15 2022

Objectively a classic, but not my bag. Felt stuffy, although it originated as the opposite, I'm sure.

Ágætis Byrjun by Sigur Rós

Main character music. This is for when you're starring in your own movie, experiencing all the waves of deep joy and sorrow, staring out a bus window while you reflect on all the big moments of your life.

Private Dancer by Tina Turner
Feb 17 2022

I see how it's a classic - so many radio hits and must have been groundbreaking for its time. Especially coming from a more mature woman of color who was so on top of the trends. I can respect that, but too much treble for me!

Yeezus by Kanye West

Genre bending. Enjoyable beats.

Street Life by The Crusaders

More funk than jazz! Fun!

Elephant by The White Stripes

This is so in my wheelhouse. Punky garage rock at its finest. Loved Little Acorn.

Machine Head by Deep Purple
Feb 23 2022

Classic hard rock, sounds like it is the example of the genre.

1977 by Ash

Apple music categorizes this as pop punk and idk that I would have guessed that - but they are totally right. This album would fit right in with the Clueless soundtrack, but give it a smidge of Neutral Milk Hotel.

Sex Packets by Digital Underground

V experimental. V 90s!

Songs From A Room by Leonard Cohen
Mar 03 2022

I have never heard the spoons played so earnestly. Peak of self indulgent folk. Feels a little misogynistic and self centered, too. Too close to Bob Dylan for comfort, but also close to Velvet Underground, which I enjoy. Altogether a little confusing. Highlight of album "Tonight Will be Fine"

Exodus by Bob Marley & The Wailers

I LOVE this album. Such a classic!

Different Class by Pulp
Mar 10 2022

Love it - all the songs sounded the same, but I'm HERE FOR THAT SONG.

The Wall by Pink Floyd
Mar 14 2022

Far more complex than I ever gave it credit for. What a journey!

Bryter Layter by Nick Drake
Mar 17 2022

Classic folk, very nice.

It's Blitz! by Yeah Yeah Yeahs

Love the mix of rock/punk and electronica. Feels very 2009 and I'm glad I revisited.

Ragged Glory by Neil Young & Crazy Horse

Immediately no.

Innervisions by Stevie Wonder
Apr 05 2022

This was WONDERFUL. Stands the test of time - Stevie is a legend. Every song is a catchy party starter. Loved it!

White Ladder by David Gray

Grew on me, but still felt like it should stay in the 90s.
