Popular Reviews

Oh! That's my modest contribution to the user list alright. Christian Vander's mind must be quite the maze. At the death of John Coltrane he wanted to create something to honor him and that was the birth of Zeuhl. There's some jazz in there, for sure, but it's heavily mixed with wagnerian opera and outer space military rythms under the prog rock stamp. One of the craziest albums I've ever heard and a concept that spans over their whole discography. It's something I think everyone should hear at least once, even if it's clearly not made for every ears. Hope you enjoy it!

Red by King Crimson

In the Court is essential to the list, but Red should've been too. Incredible stuff and a great add!

II by Espers

Great modern take on Wyrd Folk. Beautiful album and very happy to find this here!

Nail by Scraping Foetus off the Wheel

Sounds like if Tom Waits was in an industrial/post-punk band (like an extension to Bone Machine, I guess). What a nightmare!

Holy Diver by Dio

One of my favorite Heavy Metal albums and it really should've been in the original list. Great addition!

Come And Get It by Rachel Stevens
Apr 16 2026

After going through 1089 albums that were more or less pretty shitty, I wouldn't have thought of a solo album by a girl from S Club 7, but hey. Who am I to judge? Still, I was surprised by how good it was, considering the genre. Way to go!

Once Upon a Rhyme by David Allan Coe
Apr 17 2026

Generic Country music. Some songs were nice, but I largely prefer Marty Robbins & Co.

II by Espers
Apr 20 2026

Great modern take on Wyrd Folk. Beautiful album and very happy to find this here!

Apr 21 2026

Sounds like if Tom Waits was in an industrial/post-punk band (like an extension to Bone Machine, I guess). What a nightmare!

Puzzle by Biffy Clyro
Apr 22 2026

Not bad stuff, but clearly stuck in its time. I enjoyed some audacious arrangements, but I was mainly worn down by the cheesiness of it all.

Racine carrée by Stromae
Apr 23 2026

I understand that a lot of people like this and that the beats are mostly pretty nice, but as a french speaker I find most of his themes very cringey. Even the hits can't save this one as a whole, for me.

Diary by Sunny Day Real Estate
Apr 24 2026

Very good! Midwest Emo was very much underrepresented on the official list, so it's very cool to find this (and American Football) on the user list.

Korn by Korn
Apr 27 2026

Better than the one offered on the ''true'' list, but not a great album either. Really not necessary here.

Polygondwanaland by King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard
Apr 28 2026

Probably my favorite from King Gizzard and a true masterpiece of modern prog/psych!

Young, Loud And Snotty by Dead Boys
Apr 29 2026

Sounds like your usual "1001" album. Pretty generic stuff, in my opinion.

Blackwater Park by Opeth
Apr 30 2026

Mostly sounds like Porcupine Tree with screams, but still pretty good and their best album.

Check Your Head by Beastie Boys
May 01 2026

Yeah, like 3 Beastie Boys wasn't enough already. I mean, this one is very good, but is that really the only thing you can offer to the list diversity?

The Crimson Idol by W.A.S.P.
May 04 2026

An heavy metal rock opera that is as interesting as watching your clothes dry on the line. What a W.A.S.T.E. of time.

May 05 2026

Human Racing by Nik Kershaw
May 06 2026

Mom, can we have Duran Duran? No, we already have Duran Duran at home. Duran Duran at home :

May 07 2026

Maybe this album will go away if I pretend I'm dead.

Artaud by Pescado Rabioso
May 08 2026

This! This is great stuff and it should be on the original list alright.

Red by King Crimson
May 11 2026

In the Court is essential to the list, but Red should've been too. Incredible stuff and a great add!

Blink-182 by blink-182
May 12 2026

Boring and generic pop punk. I'm sorry, but I can't stand this kind of stuff and I still can't believe how famous they got with this.

Funeral Dress by Wussy
May 13 2026

Nothing bad, but all I hear is a generic 2000's indie rock/folk band like so many of them back then.

No.1 In Heaven by Sparks
May 18 2026

I prefer Kimono, but this is still quite the landmark in terms on Synthpop. Something everyone should hear!

F♯ A♯ ∞ by Godspeed You! Black Emperor
May 19 2026

A very important album that should've been on the list if they cared to include any post-rock at all. Still, I'm not a big fan of this style and neither this band, but their influence is undeniable.

Holy Diver by Dio
May 20 2026

One of my favorite Heavy Metal albums and it really should've been in the original list. Great addition!

Live in San Francisco by Thee Oh Sees
May 21 2026

Thee Oh Sees are fucking amazing and you really get their energy live, so it make sense to add a live album. Check them out, they're very prolific and diverse!

Vs. by Pearl Jam
May 26 2026

I think I liked it better than Ten. Still a very overrated band, IMO.

Roadhouse 01 by Allan Rayman
May 28 2026

Meh. I don't really see the point to add this kind of albums to the "list".

Jaco Pastorius by Jaco Pastorius
May 29 2026

I just love Jazz Fusion.

Dilate by Ani DiFranco
Jun 01 2026

I get it, but this kind of stuff really is just stuck in its time. Not bad, but didn't age very good.

Dead Man's Party by Oingo Boingo
Jun 04 2026

Ah yes, Zolo! The quirky side of New Wave (Devo, B-52's, etc). I discovered Oingo Boingo along The Forbidden Zone movie the band was created for and boy, what a ride! Their two first albums are among my favorite albums of all time and this one is great too, but it's clearly their most accessible. Great stuff and always a pleasure to listen to!

Rêver mieux by Daniel Bélanger
Jun 05 2026

One of the greatest albums to come out of Quebec and so very justified to be found here. If you forget the language barrier, I consider it one of the greatest albums of the early 2000's and it still didn't age a bit!

Hand. Cannot. Erase. by Steven Wilson
Jun 08 2026

I like Steven Wilson solo even more than Porcupine Tree and this album is simply amazing. So full of emotions and soaked with the melancholy of a love that could have been.

Desire, I Want To Turn Into You by Caroline Polachek
Jun 19 2026

I think it's still very early to add this here, but it's a very good example of how good pop music can be in this decade.

Fantastic Planet by Failure
Jun 24 2026

I long thought that any Grunge band couldn't impress me anymore, but I've found something different in Failure and this album's probably their best. I don't know if I would've added it to the list, but it's quite fun!

Carrie & Lowell by Sufjan Stevens
Jun 25 2026

Beautiful album. I don't listen to Sufjan very often, but it's always great!

Moanin' by Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers
Jul 01 2026

One of the greatest jazz album of all time and a personal favorite!

City Of Evil by Avenged Sevenfold
Jul 02 2026

A fun album that I really enjoyed while in highschool. Doesn't hit as hard today.

Keep It like a Secret by Built To Spill
Jul 07 2026

A very important album, but I'm just not that into 90s indie rock.

Walls of Jericho by Helloween
Jul 14 2026

I'm really not a fan of Helloween and Power Metal in general, but that didn't stop me from listening to their whole discography for "fun". Walls of Jericho is one of the enjoyable ones, but it still isn't my kind of stuff. I think Power Metal was still very under represented in the original list.

Afraid Of Sunlight by Marillion
Jul 15 2026

Sounds like an uninspired Talk Talk album. I'm not a big fan of 90s' Marillion.

Misplaced Childhood by Marillion
Jul 24 2026

A masterpiece of the 80s. It's such a feelgood album for me and something I never get tired of.

Diamond Jubilee by Cindy Lee
Aug 03 2026

I get that a lot of people like this, but I didn't get hooked over this, especially because of its lenght.
