This is a good album. I can hear how its sound may have influenced a lot of the modern music l love. There is really nothing wrong with it, but I don't feel like it's something I'm going to reach for after this listen. The only song I listened to a second time was "Oxford Town." I found the harmonica on this album annoying which is a pretty significant compatibility issue between me and most of these songs, lol.
I don't have much of an opinion about this album. There was nothing bad about it. I liked listening to Snoop Dogg's parts on this album. I liked the female artists' features. I liked the way most of the songs segued together. But really I didn't care about this album one way or the other. The song that piqued my interest the most was "The Day the N***** Took Over"
This was a good, fun album. I liked the country influenced rock sound. If I had to pick a stand out track it would be Nightingale or Tryin', but I wouldn't say that any tracks *really* stood out from the others. This isn't a bad thing, they were just all the same vibe for me.
This was the first album/band for this project that I've never heard of. It was a fun listen and really different from other rap/hip hop albums I've listened to, although I haven't listened to much. I liked the instrumentation and the positive lyrics. I think my favorite song from the album was U.
This is a good album. I liked the wild energy of it. Obviously I loved the sax parts and the piano too! Standout song would be Born to Run of course but I also really liked She's the One. If I'm being completely honest, I don't think I'll necessarily reach for this again, but I had to bump it up a star once it clicked for me how obvious an influence this album/artist had to have been on Jack Antonoff/Bleachers.
This album was pretty cool but I'm just not that much of a fan of instrumental music/music without lyrics. That being said, my favorite songs from this album were Genesis and Stress.
This is the first album from this project that I've already listened to! I've been leaving notes to myself about each album just so I remember them better, but no need to do that for this album because I've already listened to it 100 times. This is an easy 5 stars. Part of me feels like I should give it 4 because there are definitely a few songs I listened to once and basically never again, and I actually hate the song Bad Blood lol. But there are so many highs on this album, and when it's good, it's so good, so I can't help but give it a 5. My favorite songs on this album are New Romantics, Shake it Off, and All You Had to Do Was Stay.
An undeniably cool listen. I liked that even though it's Thelonious Monk's album, the other instrumentalists also had their times to shine. This would be a good album to have on while I'm working.
I read a review of this album that said it reminded them of something that would be playing in a club in the Matrix. I only really agree with that for the first song on the album, Keeping Pigs Together, which was my favorite song on the album. I also liked Belladonna. There were other good moments too but overall this was not my thing.
This album is really, really, really good! I love how dark and melancholy Nina's voice is. Also, can we talk about the piano on this album??! Amazing. My favorite songs on this album were Four Women and Lilac Wine.
I never know what to say about albums like this. I didn't dislike it but I didn't like it either. When I compare it to other similar albums I've listened to for this project so far I don't know whether to say I like it more or less. I just don't get it I guess?
Highlight: It's Not the End of the World?
Courtney Love is the real thing. Highlights: Doll Parts, Rock Star
I was surprised by how good this one was! All the songs were pretty much on the same level for me so it's hard to pick a stand out, but if I had to, I'd pick Dead Love.
