Cheap Thrills
Big Brother & The Holding CompanyLots of 12 bar blues here, reminds me of going to parties with dad when I was a kid and the types of live bands that would be there.

I didn't realize this was 100% made from samples on a single sampler. Really impressive. Great beats.
Not bad but not super exciting either. A couple of good tracks.
Not such a fan of this egocentric style of hip-hop. Strong beats and production though. Heart of the City is a tune.
Delicate indie pop. A nice listen.
Listening to this is like gazing across still waters on a winters day, lost in your own thoughts, with your hot drink gone cold at your elbow. The furnishings are out of date and there is a musty smell but its still homely.
This album got so much airplay at the flat in the early 2000s, it was a key part of the soundtrack of that stage in my life. I don't think I such a fan of him these days, but this album was huge.
Struggled a bit with this listen. It's certainly of a time and has an energy I wasn't able to connect with. However I'm on Fire is still an excellent song.
Oh Hell Yes. Though this album is slightly too entwined with my memories of working at Dick Smith and a particular branch manager at the time.
Particularly radio-friendly stuff here from the Peppers. Some good tunes if I try not to be too pretentious about it for a minute. Not my fav work from them though.
This was a fun listen. Crisply produced prog rock. I could hear a little Pink Floyd in here at times.
Nah not my jam. This level of casually explicit lyricism and the style is not for me.
This was a bit of a miss for me, just a bit flat. Which I wasn’t expecting from the Arcade fire. I really liked their earlier album.
Iconic voice of course. The album sounds pretty samey to me but that's probably just an artifact of listening with a more modern ear.
This was a fun little blast of a listen. Rock n Roll but without the horns I usually associate with the genre. I'm not really a fan of Presley but he was undeniably electric here. The super short 2 min tracks of the time feel quite odd these days.
I enjoyed this and this style of low ego hiphop. Slightly weird as I'm more familiar with Charli 2na and Akil from listing to early DJ Format albums. I could do without the heavy cussing on track 14: One of Them. Felt quite out of step with the rest of the album.
Interesting to hear something completely unexpected, but I struggled to connect with it.
This was probably hugely influential, but I can't stand Morrissey.
This is the first 5 star for me. Absolutely essential work here from Sigur Ros.
Not my thing.
This didn't really do anything for me. A couple of passable tracks but most I would classify as "wishy-washy nonsense".
This was a fun listen. Crisply produced prog rock. I could hear a little Pink Floyd in here at times.
MJ and Quincy Jones are unbeatable. Still a bit of hangover from his earlier stuff on here. It feels like a transitional album after the standout hits.
Some good afrobeats here. Not quite up to his iconic old man in my opinion, but I can see why this album did well internationally.
Solid late 90's sound. Corgans influence on several tracks stands out.
Fairly broad sounds here. The Jean Genie feels buried on the album.
I am 10 years old again, listening to 89FM and big hair rock is fkin cool.
Well I guess that is where that Basement Jaxx sample comes from.
This was really pretty from Nick, not what I expected.
