The Emancipation of Mimi by Mariah Carey

Wasn’t expecting much but damn did I love this album and its showcase of the biggest names in radio hip hop of 2005. Fatman Scoop gets to sing with Mariah are you kidding me?!?! The Neptunes produce their worst beat ever! Twista! When is Twista getting a comeback? He’s great (unless he got Me Too’d or something). Nelly crushes his guest appearance. And then of course Mariah sounds incredible and only does her wretched whistling a couple times. I really enjoyed how often she would whisper sing and then just go full chest belt it out in the same sentence. She is truly a phenomenal singer and a bizarre person and im grateful this was submitted. I’d rather listen to this than either of the Christina Aguilera albums on the OG list

Mutter by Rammstein

Thank God the song from XXX is on this one! While I didn’t love the album overall it made me feel like seeing Rammstein live would be a hella good time. Like all metal/industrial metal it’s a little silly and the German man purring in my ears the whole time didn’t help. I kept picturing people listening to this and feeling tough and it just kept making me laugh. Like every user submitted album it’s definitely worth a listen though

Poesía Básica by Extrechinato y Tu

User Submitted Album #1 Great album to start it off. Love me some hard rocking groovy Spanish music. Los Lonely Boys meets Tito & Tarantula meets Trans Siberian Orchestra. Also the fact that it’s just some guys poetry, performed by the poet, put over hard ass music is delightful

Once Upon a Rhyme by David Allan Coe
Sep 28 2026

Enjoyable outlaw country. I enjoy this era of country music. Sounded very Linda Ronstadty at times. I especially enjoyed the last song and it’s 4th wall breaking final verse. Good stuff DAC!

Dreams! Linger! A bunch of delightful (or depressing I don’t really know) songs sung Irishly. Definitely enjoyed the heck out of this one. Waltzing Back was great too.

Temple of Thought by Poets of the Fall
Sep 30 2026

When this album started I was sure I wasn’t going to enjoy it but damned if it didn’t win me over. Very over the top songs mostly about love but my man can sing like a mother fucker! I don’t think I’ll ever return to this one but I was an enjoyable listen once

Donuts by J Dilla
Oct 01 2026

Phenomenal example of the power of sampling. Listening through it feels more like a bunch of demos rather than full songs but that doesn’t make them hit any less. I’m not too deep into hip hop but does anyone use this album for anything? Do artists make songs over these beats? Regardless it was a cool listen and an essential album in the world of hip hop

Once by Nightwish
Oct 02 2026

This album feels impossible to take seriously. Cartoonish and just never lets up. A parody of heavy metal. It’s fun but the same way Metalocalypse is fun. “Wish I Had An Angel”?!? What a goofy ass song

The most Christmasy non Christmas album around. Just dudes crooning and playing horns. Pretty good jazz!

We Rock Hard by Freestylers
Oct 04 2026

A fun mix of electronic, old school hip hop and reggae vocals. Thanks to the prior list I have a lot of distaste for English electronic music but I think the other elements really elevate this one. I’d probably even listen to it again! Plus it’s even got some breakin

Maybe it’s due to my cat suffering from liver disease, maybe it’s just a melancholy day but this album his just right and despite some of the heavy subject matter it really lifted me up. I didn’t even mind the length! Is this the first double album I actually enjoyed? I guess so!

Thunder And Consolation by New Model Army
Oct 06 2026

Im trying to be kinder with my ratings on this list of, what is basically, users favorite albums… but man we got enough of this British the cure wannabe bullshit on the first list. Could not stomach this today and have no desire to listen to any more music like this. Sorry guy who submitted this, nothing personal

Last Splash by The Breeders
Oct 07 2026

Yeah it’s fine. Cannonball was a bop but the rest didn’t really leave any impact on me. Fun but forgettable female indie rock

Spaces by Nils Frahm
Oct 08 2026

I admire the effort and I enjoyed this one as background music… but I think the actual effect of recording all over the place never really shines through. Every once in a while an audience would cheer but that’s about all that distinguished the takes from each other. Not a bad album though!

Carolina Confessions by The Marcus King Band
Oct 09 2026

A begrudging 4 stars. Marcus King has all the elements I like in music (except the Blues YUCK) but some reason I just can’t stay into him (probably the Blues YUCK). But the talent is undeniable and he can write a catchy riff, I’d just rather listen to St Paul and the Broken Bones

Only God Was Above Us by Vampire Weekend
Oct 10 2026

Vampire Weekend are basically the Ramones if they went to Yale. This album is them firing on all cylinders and the results are a delight

Nuyorican Soul by Nuyorican Soul
Oct 11 2026

Really fun album that can’t quite decide what it is. Is it a hip hop album? Jazz? Maybe it’s just old disco songs with new beats under them. Regardless it’s very enjoyable if not a little long

Forced Witness by Alex Cameron
Oct 14 2026

A weird listen. Catchy enough songs but he sings about loving underage girls too much for my tastes. I get that this is a “character” but I guess I just didn’t enjoy my time with him

First Utterance by Comus
Oct 15 2026

At times this sounded like some Wicker Man shit and I liked that. At other times it was shrill and annoying. Definitely an interesting listen but I wouldn’t say I enjoyed it overall

One Hot Minute by Red Hot Chili Peppers
Oct 16 2026

Heroin poetry. 3 songs in the middle of this album begin with the lyrics “I am”. This list has taught me that a lot of artists I thought I liked… I don’t really like. RHCP are unfortunately on that list
