Iron Maiden, the band, are not entirely my cup of tea but I will die on the hill that number of the beast is a classic. Unfortunately this isn't.
The stand out moments on this album are flittering and never stay long enough for a song. As an example the song phantom of the opera has two interesting sections but it's book ended by parts that sound half baked.
The album on the whole is half baked. Most songs have a lick or two that sound like what iron Maiden become but it struggles to get out of second gear. The opening track the prowler, has a lick which I was humming to after listening to the album but it faded away into obscurity so never even became an ear worm.
Iron Maiden by Iron Maiden is at best bronze maiden and likely only for the Maidenheads or people from Maidenhead.
Incredible music but not my cup of tea!
The debut album of the clash sounds precisely that. Ok the whole punk is underproduced and usually underwritten.
This album introduces some good song writing in songs such as white riot but a lot of the tracks are filler that would be debut EP fodder.
The clash were never a big band for me growing up and this record would not turn many people on to their later and largely better work.
This was like listening to an album being played at you in an old, abandoned, potentially haunted church.
Not for me or the living. If you are allergic to reverb then avoid.
I jest a lot but very little of this album spoke to me. Very well produced.
Eery and genuinely spooky at times.
This album does not stand out for any particular song other than the fantastic spellbound.
This is not my cup of tea per say but this is my kind of interesting music which brought me to come to this site.
For someone else this will be a 10/10 just not for me.
This album begins incredibly. The first 3 tracks are exactly what I wanted. Incredible enthusiasm, hard hitting lyrics and wistful soul.
However the start of this album doesn't carry through the whole record. I enjoyed the track lilac wine but the whole middle and back of the album was not varied enough.
A good soul album but not my favourite.
Nothing on this album was unpleasant. It was all excellently bluesy at times with some really technical sounding pieces. Mid range album for me. Likely won't listen to it again but wasn't a bad time.
Really did not enjoy this album. It's very nineties and for me the bad nineties. A strong pass from me.
Rap is likely my least favourite genre to listen to. However even I can say this is an incredible sounding album with tonnes of different genres expertly crafted throughout.
This one is totally not for me but seems like it is a classic.
Got half way through the album and my other half says to me, "I heard what you were listening to and you don't normally listen to that then I realised it'll be your album thingy."
What my wife has pointed out here is that she knows that this album would likely not be something I would ever choose to listen to. And she is right!
Pleasant enough work but nothing that really hooks me in.
Evol by sonic youth is like a dull mesmerising drone that does not linger around long enough to become catchy. Would not recommend myself.
Classic album with at least 2 great songs.
Lou Reed isn't an exceptional singer and is outclassed in my eyes on almost all his records by Bowie but still a worth while listen for anyone.
A decent album but really with suspicious minds being the only truly amazing track. A few others are fine but none hit the highs of suspicious minds or even try to.
Nothing however is annoying. Probably one of Elvis' best studio efforts but not one I will listen to again. Stick to the compilations.
Beyond the odd time on a guitar hero game this is my first experience listening to Dino Jr and I must say I was surprised how much I liked the album.
Great guitar and drum work, the crunching classic riffs and modern licks really stand out. I am let down on this record by the style of the singer. It isn't unlike the pixies which suffer from a similar issue for me but this band play heavier music than the pixies and I can get on board with this.
Will listen to more.
A nice album that never strays to any particularly bad notes but also never truly hits several highs either.
Some of the drum work and instrumentation is very good on here.
Having been a part time listener of Smashing pumpkins for years this album was not unknown to me however I had not listened to it before.
This really is a special album. I enjoyed this much more than my previous pumpkins experience would have led me to believe.
The quality of the guitar work surprised me and I really enjoyed some of the singing as well which I know for many is what lets this band down.
Would say 9/10 but 5/5 will do.
Pretty meh of an album at least on first listen.
Found the first song or two good enough to bop my head to but fell off it quickly. Not the worst mind.
Interesting listen after hearing Lou Reed's previous album Transformer.
This album says to be a concept album however I never heard anything that would make you believe that.
This album does not have any song like "Perfect Day" or "Take A Walk On The Wild Side" but probably a higher overall level of songs.
7/10
I like REM, I even love some of their songs. This album does show the beginnings of those songs you love.
As I was listening to this album I kept wanting to hear a good hook, a strong chorus or a nice lick but instead got bland mellowness but not even good enough to count for that.
Sometimes you just want a song that fucks and this isn't this. Half way through the album I put on hangar 18 by Megadeath just to get something that fucks.
Murmur is a fine enough album but lacks any punch or even a slap.
2/5
Fine enough with a quirky sound. Might be a grower.
Considering its R&B which I never listen to off my own back this isn't too bad.
I will never truly get it so this review should come with a grain of salt but 3/5, doesn't annoy me and the vocal arrangements I largely liked.
Amazing, amazing, amazing...if you like it. The amount of incredible musicianship on show here is incredible. However if you aren't into the genre or want to listen to something a bit easier with lyrics this isn't it
What a diamond in the rough. Great funk music and with a 10 minute opener. Try it, it's great.
Competent and good listening especially for your nan or the geriatric. 3 out of 5 will keep in mind for when I'm senile.
There is little that I can add on this album that hadn't already been said. One of thee singular best collection of music ever recorded. The amount of hits on this record and great songs around the singles is mind blowing.
5 out of 5, would never be anything else. My fave is go your own way quickly followed by songbird.
Interesting album.
I don't speak Spanish but didn't feel I had to to appreciate this work.
Would like to listen to more but seemingly their one album.
An album I heard all the singles from but never the main body of tracks.
Light in tone throughout with some great guitar work but its Eddie Van halen, what would you expect.
One song sounds like genesis but otherwise a good album. Not their best work but up there.
What a find!
Only heard of them before but never listened.
It's not perfect but good album.
The chillies are a funny one for me. Some great songs but largely from the later albums for me.
This album is pretty good but isn't really for me.
Fun fact the chillies is one of the worst live bands I have seen. The show was bland and kinda lifeless.
The seminal work by Gorillaz took me somewhat by suprise.in a lot of musical choices. Songs with pan flutes with wrapping over them and very modest melodic songs as well.
Prior listens to Gorillaz was entirely singles and songs on FIFA games. Based on them I think the 2nd album would be better for me but I enjoyed this well enough.
Might add this or some songs to my rotation.
Roundabout is good. Not much else to say about the rest.
Not what I thought it would be. The Doors are a lot more bluesy than I imagined. Although it starts well it does not carry well through the album. I would pass.
Good album from deep purple. Would recommend if you like classic 70s rock.
Not on Spotify. Will circle back to check out later.
Not for me
This album was not for me. It doesn't drive to anything significant. The only track I remembered was the 2nd and that was because I restarted it.
What a find. Terrific at parts. Can be one note but I like the note.
4/5
Not for me. Relatively normal country music with little interest.
Wistful and nice in places but doesn't do much for me.
Bleh. Very morose and unable to get into this one. Never been a fan of Cohen.
I enjoyed listening to the last clash album from the generator. It was better or at least more enjoyable than this one for me. London calling is a classic song but I prefer a handful of others so ultimately this album isn't my fave but likely a fan fave for others.
Bit meh. Might be a grower
It's been a hard day's life.
A fine album but not the wailers best work.
Struggled with this one
Aha shake heartbreak took me back to being 14 in high school listening to the high school band playing four kicks and watching the video for the bucket on an MTV equivalent/knock off. It might be the kings of leons best album, maybe but they never quite made it into my favourite bands list.
I would say 3 out of 5
