The Prodigy
Understandable that this album is iconic. I remember hearing smack my bitch up as a kid for the first time and getting totally hyped for it. It's something that probably wont enter my rotation now but all props to The Prodigy for making electronic music give me the same feels as metal would. Im into it!

Oh my goodness. Im not a taylor fan, and I think i regretted this whole album listening exercise one song in. But it grew on me. Its littered with hooks and Im into it. I hate so much about it, but i cant deny that theres a lot to like about it too. Her lyrics are sometimes infuriating but the production and melodies make it kinda work. Im never listening to this again unless someone else plays it and then i will bob my head and mutter the lyrics under my breath

I had an absolute ball revisiting this album. The most expansive buffet of fuzz guitar tones on one album - the guitar production is stellar, there's so much happening on each ear, on each song, making this an album worth revisiting whenever you want to get inspired by truly inventive yet classic guitar playing. The vocal hooks are also so pop friendly, can't stop singing half of em. This album makes me want to enter a jam room and play the drums badly or play one note guitar solos with tons of feedback. Truly enjoyable, and what a feat to have an album like this in what, 2010? So very cool. Although my only complaint was that I start to lose focus by mid second half cause the sound is SO consistent lol. The last two songs are very cool though. Never gonna give you up (not that one) is a new fave, Next girl was a song i was already obsessed with. I wanna listen to El Camino now!

That was cool! I didnt know of Jimmy Smith. Solid Organ player, very jazzy album lol. Can't pretend like i know the intricacies within jazz that qualifies this as a must listen, but it was enjoyable and fun to play along w too.

The Last Shadow Puppets
Ashamed to say I had never heard of this band. Was pleasantly surprising to hear alex turner ripping it. This album sounds like an indie rock score to a spaghetti western. Most enjoyable, it feels very 2008 as we get 10 songs in and its alex turner once again with long sentences that he spews in a somewhat attractive way. It's like Arctic Monkeys' Humbug was kiiiinda in the same world, probably just what they were into at the time.
Quite enjoyable. Many interesting riffs n parts, a lot of talent on display, and its the beautiful orchestral sections that really take this to another level.

BEYONCÉ
Beyoncé
OH my goodness. Having only ever heard singles from her + Lemonade, I always thought she was great but holy shit this album was so interesting. Her vocals are fantastic, and I love the whole live sorta feeling to this album with all the clips in the beginning of songs, production was fab with tons of interesting choices sprinkled all over, no song structure was predictable and it was groovy as heck. Also, was profusely sweating during some of the more sexual songs. I had no idea Beyoncé could make me feel that way. If I hadn't had a sexual awakening already this one would be it. Very good album.

The Genius Of Ray Charles
Ray Charles
The genius of Ray Charles is evident in this album. Sad that there’s so much distortion in the recording but doesn’t take away from the brilliance in songwriting and harmony you get to witness. All the warm feelings associated w beautiful heartfelt vocal melodies have come to me and swept me off the floor on this hazy November delhi afternoon. The string section is masterful, absolutely transporting these songs to another level. I made the stank face many times 🥴🥴🥴
Definitely going back to this album to be the soundtrack to a cold moody day

I like classic rock. The Rolling stones do it well. Moonlight Mile would be my standout. Lot of lovely songs and sooo many sweet guitar melodies and phrases I will think of many times in the future. I actually wanna listen to more Rolling Stones after this. Its good road trip music (or maybe i think this is cause i was driving while listening). Overall, I enjoyed. But I will say, I wasn't blown away. Maybe it is considered iconic more for the time that it came out? I wouldn't know. I guess I have to listen to everything now.

I have to say, I'm kinda having a phase with the 80's so the sound is exactly what I was kinda looking for. That being said, where's your "Fade out specialist"? Goddamn do they love to sit on one thing to end their songs. Someone tell em the song is over!
I do feel that might be more unfortunate than the unfortunate choice of words that the era has excused. Oh well.
Your latest trick has some really tasty harmonic movements on the keys, and I think that's where this album really shines - these chord changes should be studied! Theyre so effective and subtle, moving away from diatonic harmony whilst being very accessible.
I'm a fan of the guitar sound! I'm wanting this guitar sound! As a John Mayer fan, I can hear the influence allll over. Guess I Just Feel like's outro and the outro to Why Worry are so similar! And Wild Blue is basically John Mayer pretending to be Mark Knopfler hahaha.
I feel like I'm in a 80s movie set in Miami with light, low stakes espionage taking place. Gonna slick back my hair and smoke 600 cigarettes whenever i decide to listen again.

I cannot believe I hadn't heard of this guy before! This album was fantastic and EXACTLY what I was hoping to get out of this whole 1001 exercise. oof, what a stellar album travelling between genres and executing them all in a fun, unique and interesting way. Gosh this was super enjoyable. It's like Nick Drake except so much more psychedelic. Absolutely blown away, REALLY enjoyed all the acoustic songs, really interesting parts I cant wait to sink my teeth into trying to decipher. Absolutely amazing. Listening to more from this artist for sure.

Super nice reminiscing about my prog phase in high school. This album is great! I'd heard these guys before but this album was quite a treat. Gave me a lot of Genesis vibes. All the experimental production and extreme panning I'm always a fan of. A very haunting and moody album! I enjoyed.

Woah woah! Honestly not much to say about this album. I loved the guitar parts! But I did not particularly enjoy this approach to the vocal production. I feel like it left me wanting more. The songs, the tones, even the lyrical content was all pretty enjoyable though.

Crazy that this has virtually no streams on spotify but made it on this list. It was a good album! Singing about Texas in that era is not really my jam but ofc there is some pretty awesome country guitar playing on this record with tons of great pedal steel moments and also just some wild country licks. Really quite impressive. The lyrical content and even song structure was not very exciting for me though. I wont give it something less than a 3 though, it's just not for me but it is good for what it is!

This was alright! Again the vocals didnt do it for me! I dont know. There were some interesting songs but for a lack of ability to express myself - the vibes were off. I hate to give something a 2 but aside from a few songs where there was max indie rock nostalgia I wasn't really feeling it. And to be honest, I couldn't finish it. I still have the tail end of the second side left. Will I finish it? We'll find out!
