Really liked the first half - some absolute classics. I thought the second half was weaker maybe a little more esoteric. They give me an OK Go type vibe
Perfection. Effortless. Just so so good. I actually think her slower songs are her best and loved discovering songs I've never heard. "Ain't No Way" and "Good to Me" are hidden gems, at least to me. I guess it's hard to say that when they have millions of Spotify streams.
Definitely not my normal type of music. Loved the Afro-Caribbean vibe to it all. It started to get a little repetitive by the end. Feels like something that would be good on a repeated listening or as background music at an outside party. A little too joyous for chill music. 3.5
The deep cuts on this one didn't really do much for me. I don't have a great perspective on what this album meant for hip hop on a greater level. It sounds pretty generic to me know which is maybe a testament to how influential it was at the time. The high pitched hook maker wore on me after a while. Having said that, the bangers on this are absolute bangers. 3.5, would not buy on vinyl.
Freaking awesome album. First four tracks are absolute classics, but some of the other deep cuts are great too. Probably a bit simplistic by today's standards for rock/hip-hop but just a gem. 4.5, would buy used on vinyl
This album is far far greater than the sum of its parts. I really appreciate the thought that went into song order - upbeat for a few then a nice chill one. Really bears listening straight through. I actually think their slow to mid-tempo songs are better than their fast/loud ones. There is a wall of sound tendency that gets a bit tiresome but just when I feel like I need a break, they deliver. Just a great album overall, even when you set aside the absolute classics. Yes, buy it on vinyl. Solid 4.5
Meh. Didn't do much for me outside of the couple of classics on this. The deeper cuts felt very generic to me. Wasn't offensive either, though. Solid 3. Would not buy.
This one did nothing for me. I don't know if it's accurate or not, but this feels like a good songwriter who thought he'd give a crack at singing/arranging and it just didn't work for me. The songs were simple and that doesn't bother me. But the signing was just boring.
Totally mellow vibe - this is one you put on in the background when you're cooking dinner or having a dinner party or something. Didn't love it, didn't hate it but very pleasant despite a couple of weird songs. Would totally be worth buying if you found it for a few bucks used.
A little face melty but also somewhat generic. I appreciate the energy behind this. That little riff where all the background instruments cut out and the guitar wales for a bit sounds very cliched. But it is also nice to hear some very good old rock. I'd give it a smidge over 3. Not something I'd buy or actively seek out, but there's a couple of songs perfect for a beach or volleyball mix.
Wow, this album goes hard. The sampling Kanye uses is next level but the songs I love are really the best ones on the album. I think he must have been pretty horny when he made this because it's all about pussy for many of the filler songs. Still a great 4+ album but not one I'd want to buy.
This is very inoffensive - a funny contrast to Kanye previously. I get a lot of Billy Joel vibes here but if Billy Joel had a guitar instead of a piano. I don't love it I don't hate it. It doesn't make me want to skip songs or turn it off but it also doesn't do much for me. Some of these songs would be really great movie tracks because they just kind of blend into the background, but I mean that in a good way. I think the last couple of songs are the best.
Loved the non-hits from this album. They got a little same-y but still fun. I didn't ever thought about how much they sound like a proto-Black Keys. Obviously the three bangers are all timers from this album. Kind of a perfect album for sitting around in the backyard. I'd give it just a shade under 4 stars. Definitely one to pick up used sometime.
I can appreciate this for being well done - good musicians. Weird how the album is all over the place - a little classical guitar, Brahms I guess, and some more psychedelic rock. Not really my thing but also not bad.
Alright I guess. Pleasant in the background, just not really my jam. Call it 3.5
Didn't really connect with this one at all. Two plus stars for me for this.
What a fun record. Some all time classics and I like how you can feel this is setting up the music world for another jump. Seems to bridge the music of the 50s and 60s really well. Echoes of Elvis and some early Beatles vibes.
Walk on the Wild Side - banger. The rest was very meh for me. I'd give it a shade under 3 stars, too.
