One of my favourite albums of all time, and a great start!
This may have been the only time I've listened to the full album front to back. I think I get why it was so groundbreaking for the time, and it works better as a full album than I was expecting
I don't think I had heard any track on this album before, but it basically sounded like I expected. It was fine, some fun songs, but I probably wouldn't bother to listen to it again.
As bluesy as I remember, more danceable than I remember. But definitely drags in the back half and the lyrics don't always land
First time hearing most of these songs, and honestly they were better than expected. The title track is now a bit cringe inducing, but overall not at all a bad album.
It was interesting to hear the transition from Nirvana Dave Grohl to the Dave Grohl of later Foo Fighter hits. I had only minor familiarity with a few songs on the album going in. Solid overall but did not wow me
I really enjoyed this, I had not listened to much Merle Haggard previously.
I had written off Norah Jones as something you would hear in the background of a coffee shop, so I was surprised to like this album as much as I did. A lot more depth than I expected.
I went in having mostly only heard Season of the Witch- which is a great track. The album was overall better than I was expecting, but a full album of psychedelia is a bit much for me.
I had heard the singles, overall the full album was more consistent than I would have expected. I don't really love this era of rap, but it was alright
I'm glad I listened to it in terms of a timecapsule of a different era, and some songs were catchy and enjoyable enough. But not something I'd seek out to listen to again. I am glad we moved past the era of comedy skits on albums between songs
Interesting odds to listen to two Doors albums in the first dozen selections. I actually initially listened to the self titled instead of this (so three Doors albums), which may have set me up more for disappointment.
The first band on this list that I had not even heard of prior to this review. I probably will go back and listen again- apparently they are a project from a Fugazi member, though I would probably always rather listen to Fugazi instead.
I was expecting to like this more than I did- I think ska can be fun, and had heard The Specials talked about as a more "serious" ska band. I can see how it was influential for the time, but it didn't click with me
If I had first listened to this back when I was more into The White Stripes I feel like I would have felt it was a step down without any standout tracks. But with a bit of distance from that I found the album was quite solid, there wasn't a song that wasn't interesting and enjoyable.
I like The Temptations but feel like I've primarily listened to singles/compilation albums. I liked the album, but hard to compare to a "Best Of"
This was a really cool album. Was not familiar with JLH or blues music really, but the large number of cross-genre features was interesting.
A band I liked when I was 13; I was curious how the album would hold up since I think they now have a reputation as being sort of cringe. Honestly, held up better than expected!
Fun 80's pop music, that I would listen to again.
Iconic album with so many catchy standouts. Era defining.
I had never actually listened to this album despite loving earlier Radiohead. It was very good, though not quite on par with earlier albums for me.
Television was another band I had heard great things about but never listened to- I think it mostly lived up to the hype.
I think I had only heard a handful of Nick Cave songs prior. This album was enjoyable but not really anything special for me.
A classic for a reason, I'm a big fan of this style and era of rap.
I like CCR, this album mostly consisted of tracks I had not heard with a few that were familiar from hearing on the radio. Good songs, to be clear, and I'm sure they were hits at the time, but they were lacking the power of the mega hits I associate the band with. But the closing cover of "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" was absolutely incredible and elevated the album up a full star for me.
I had not previously heard of Coldcut, but this album was fantastic. Clearly very groundbreaking, hard to imagine that this came out in the mid-80s. Will definitely check out their other stuff.
I understand why Coldplay gets so much negative attention, and I really don't care for a lot of their newer "bigger" sounding songs, but this album is quite good. I forgot how much I like some of these songs.
A bit of a hidden gem, I had not heard any songs from it before. Was surprised by the number of instrumental tracks, but very cool as part of Bowie's progression
This was enjoyable as background music, but not something I could really imagine listening to just on its own.
One of my favourites, understated and sincere.
