Time Out by The Dave Brubeck Quartet
Jan 05 2024

Ok I recognize Take Five Just didn’t realize the context. Listening during my lunch break and the afternoon part of my shift at the Phillies Stadium. Good music to work to it’s driving but relaxed.

Hounds Of Love by Kate Bush
Jan 08 2024

What can I say this is my favorite piece of recorded music ever made. I’m happy for the prompt to listen to it on any day but this one in particular. This music is woven into the fabric of my life.

American Idiot by Green Day
Jan 09 2024

Listened to the first half so far. All the energy and snot that I enjoyed on dookie is nowhere to be found here. Trying to find moments I enjoy but it’s just a slog. I guess I appreciate the fact that it had a lot of youth rocking against bush for whatever that’s worth.

The Low End Theory by A Tribe Called Quest
Jan 10 2024

Instrumental music and their signature vocal delivery has amazing energy and was definitely a ground breaking sound. That said, some of the moments and lyrics feel goofy and even off putting to me.

Jan 11 2024

Don’t hate Tuesdays Gone. I have more tolerance for 3 guitars, keys and longer jams. Relieved this album does not contain Sweet Home Alabama. Feels right to listen to this contractor rock sitting in my truck during my work break. The guitar riffs are hooky but it just sounds like any bloooz rockin boomer dad. Gimme three steps is tedious. Simple Man I enjoy— can feel the lineage to 90’s rockers like Temple of the Dog. Don’t mind that. Apparently this song played when my friend Greg was born and his parents cried. After that the record is a slog for me. When free bird ended it took me a moment to compute that the record was over. Thank god. Kinda f/w this album artwork. Bone font & outfits. Happy there are no stars and bars featured here even though 90% of their promo photos have the confederate flag. I don’t know who from the photo died in the plane crash but now I’m curious.

Maxinquaye by Tricky
Jan 12 2024

I’ve never spent time with Tricky. I think if I was younger it would have been too pulled back for me but I have a feeling I’m gonna be throwing this record on again and again. It’s probably more rewarding after several listens. Rich, layered, laid back, strong groove, love the lyrical content. Super happy I’ve been exposed to this — this is what I was hoping for from the 1001 albums experiment.

Definitely Maybe by Oasis
Jan 15 2024

Wow the end of Rock n Roll star is so annoying. First two tracks are not grabbing me. I’m finding the vocals grating. Fuck that was boring.

Here's Little Richard by Little Richard
Jan 16 2024

Fun and so influential. It was such a blueprint that listening now feels a bit like a caricature. Particularly enjoyed Ready Teddy and Rip it Up.

Chirping Crickets by Buddy Holly & The Crickets
Jan 17 2024

Thought the first half was fun and charming. Love the guitar tone and licks and the harmonizing. This gives me a specific nostalgic feeling (for a time I obviously wasn’t there) & makes me wanna start a classic little garage band. Second half of the album felt pretty same same so it didn’t hold my attention the full way through.

Punishing Kiss by Ute Lemper
Jan 18 2024

I really wanted to like this. So many artists featured who I adore. I also recognize that Ute is very skilled within her genre. I wish I liked this it just feels too Jessica Rabbit. I can’t get into it.

Underwater Moonlight by The Soft Boys
Jan 19 2024

I love this record. The artwork, the feel. It’s driving and snotty without being annoying. That is truly a feat. “I wanna destroy you” is a fave, love the gang vox. “Insanely jealous” is a song I wish I’d written. Lots of things just work for me: bass lines, guitar choices, the hooks, the irony. I also really want to buy a flanger pedal now.

In Rainbows by Radiohead
Jan 22 2024

Can’t believe I am only arriving at this now. It’s gorgeous and I listened a few times over the weekend. Perfect for stark, snowy weather.

Smash by The Offspring
Jan 23 2024
Drunk by Thundercat
Jan 24 2024

Love that he’s doing himself so completely. Bass is obviously next level. Lyrics feel really sincere in a way I don’t think many other artists have matched. Maybe it’s because they are so stream of conscious. It’s an interesting musical experience but I wasn’t grabbed by anything emotionally and it’s not something I’d necessarily throw on again.

Vol. 4 by Black Sabbath
Jan 25 2024
A Walk Across The Rooftops by The Blue Nile
Jan 26 2024

Four stars because I absolutely love the song “Heatwave.” Really enjoyed listening to this on a moody rainy city drive yesterday. A lot of the songs do sound like the same formula as Heatwave but not as strong.

Jan 29 2024

Fantastic grooves, loved my walk to this album. Lyrically sparse but that made it feel more powerful. This record made me crave making music with a group and being really locked in.

Pump by Aerosmith
Feb 01 2024

If I had my choice of 80’s contractor rock it wouldn’t be this album.

Is This It by The Strokes
Feb 02 2024

I can see how they probably had fun writing and playing this but I find it a bit grating tonally.

The Score by Fugees
Feb 06 2024

I haven’t listened in a while and I had so much fun and am just bowled over by how many classics are packed into this record. Could do without the skit but man this is ahead of its time and timeless.

Penance Soiree by The Icarus Line
Feb 08 2024

Really couldn’t get into it. Didn’t even finish.

Nowhere by Ride
Feb 09 2024

Liked the sound but I was a little checked out and bored by midway

Ellington at Newport by Duke Ellington
Feb 12 2024

It’s a long album didn’t get through it in its entirety but I love the inclusion of the MC and all the intros. Pulled me into the specific time/place/performance. Not my usual fare but i listened driving through the city and it just put me in a really nice headspace.

Brothers In Arms by Dire Straits
Feb 13 2024

Some fun musical moments but regardless of the intent they just say faggot too many times for me.
