James Brown Live At The Apollo
James BrownI stopped listening to it halfway through the first time, though it wasn't the best listening environment. Will try again, I guess.

Fun little folk album themed around songs for woes and tales behind bars.

I loved this album!
Yea this is another good one..
Another fun album. Dug it!
"Mr. Soul" was a great song. Afterwards, the pace slows down. "Everydays" is way too slow for my liking its catchy but slow. "Expecting to Fly" is just as slow. I am about to fall asleep. "Bluebird" is more upbeat and faster...Alright nevermind. "Bluebird" gets slow towards the end. Its a rather mid album, in my opinion.
sonic youthβs sound appears to be very experimental. the first half was better to me.
Composition and songs flow well.
I mean its Prince..c'mon.
Its okay.
i dunno..
Fly, of course.
The whole album is a fun vibe, not sure what genre of music this is called (looked it up: folk rock, pop rock, sunshine pop...huh). "Monday, Monday" is not only catchy but also eloquently sets the stage for what the album will bestow: melodic love songs. With themes of dancing, romance, break-ups, perhaps this was a feel-good record for youth of the 70s to throw on in a time to grasp with these emotions. "Straight Shooter" holds true to these aforementioned themes and is arguably more catchy and certainly more lively than the opening "Monday, Monday". "California Dreaming" is perfection. Certainly carries a strange melancholy tone. To quote some guy on Reddit: "All those minors and sevenths. They build a beautiful but haunting structure." The melodies in all the songs, coupled with background vocals are enjoyable. Its like a serenade. "You Baby" felt like i head it before in the album. I felt at this point the formula for the songs had gotten repetitive. This song was okay. "The 'In' Crowd" begins with a rugged vocal intro. This approach completely throws my previous statement and that song formula completely out the window. I enjoyed it.
Not a fan, personally.
This album is so unbelievably oversaturated with songs (28) that it becomes difficult to appreciate any specific one. There isn't much of a flow between tracks. If you're trying to sift through the album in an effort to differentiate between the okay songs and the good songs, just look at the number of plays on Spotify. I am trying to enjoy "Game of Pricks" which is objectively the largest hit on the album, but there is this distorted effect that is either originating from the quality of the microphone or added in post. At first I liked it, but the more I listen to this grainy, distortion effect, the more annoying it becomes and less desirable it is. To double down on the point of oversaturation, 8 songs are a duration of 1 minute or less, with the shortest song, "Cigarette Tricks", being only 18 seconds. There isn't much composition to the album. It seems more like an attempt at a psychedelic experience, perhaps "Guided By Voices" was indeed guided by voices in the making of this album. The free spirited vibes carries through more than a structured piece of music. I am sure they had a lot of fun making this album, if you can call it that.
Invaders - 4/5 Children of the Damned - 4/5 The Prisoner - 4/5 The Number of the Beast - 5/5 Run to the Hills - 5/5 Hallowed By Thy Name - 5/5 I adore the metal genre, so I am biased. However, this was a fun listen, especially as a first time. Surprised I haven't listened to this album before today. The riffs must be appreciated just as much as the vocals. Iron Maiden is one of the best to ever do it.
Its different. Slow and i enjoyed it.
It was okay.
meh. its okay.
"Great Balls of Fire" is probably the most easily recognizable song on the album. Honorary mention to Goose from "Top Gun". Jerry Lee Lewis reminds me a bit of Johnny Cash. (With Google, I just learned about the "Million Dollar Quartet": Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Johnny Cash). "Good Golly, Miss Molly" also sounds seemingly familiar. As I listen to "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On" I can't "shake" Jerry Lee Lewis's character. It leaves a bad mark on the album for me. I'll sooner go listen to "At Folsom Prison" again by Johnny Cash for some good 60s Rock n Roll before listening to this again.
it was fine. i wasn't loving it but it was a fine album. that was, until i got to the last song. by golly is right. toonerville trolly is either troll or just filler. shouldn't have made the cut.
General note: Trying to be more critical of what i give 4s & 5s. Also trying to answer "what the average (3) rating looks like to use as a benchmark for other albums. This Is the Day --> The Sinking Feeling --> Uncertain Smile was a very enjoyable 3-run of songs. Soul Mining was wonky but fun. The vocals for Giant were fun, but the second half on the song went on for way too long.
