In Rainbows
RadioheadOne of the all time greats, saw it live in Glasgow Green 2008
One of the all time greats, saw it live in Glasgow Green 2008
First full listen through and as good as I expected
Interesting, was aware of Fela Kuti because I knew Prince was a massive fan but hadn’t ever given an album the time of day, enjoyed it
One of the all time greats, I’ve promoted two shows by mates Paul Simon tribute band in Edinburgh playing Graceland and assorted other songs, they were incredible. Massive regret not seeing the man himself live when I had the chance
One of my Uncles favourite albums, I love Lennon and had listened to this a good few times before but was cool to give it the time it deserves start to end
Recently discovered Noel Redding played King Tut’s where I work so was pretty cool to look up the singer of Little Miss Strange and discover it was him. I knew most of the songs on the album but was cool to listen to it start to end, obviously it’s amazing, guy was way ahead of his time
One of my favourite albums, Find The River and Man on the Moon two of my favourite songs ever. Regret not seeing them play their own show live but did see them twice at T In The Park.
An artist I’ve never really explored properly although a friend bought me XO on vinyl a few years ago in an attempt to get me into him. This was good but not great, I’d need to listen again to see if anything hits me on second play, I feel like I want to like it
Very fortunate to have seen the great man live not once but twice, a force of nature, captured perfectly on this album
A first listen start to end, absolutely brilliant and look forward to the second
Knew the singles but was pretty enjoyable to listen to them in the context of the album, exactly what I expected but easy to see why they have legendary status
Remember buying it when it came out and saw them on The Great Escape tour a few years later, love both albums, listening back to Parklife, it was so influential
I think this was one of the first Beatles albums I bought outside of Sgt Peppers and Abbey Road, realising that there was so much more to their back catalogue, And Your Bird Can Sing a personal favourite
A band I discovered properly via The War On Drugs who covered A Pagan Place, they also owe a lot of their sound in general to The Waterboys. Have seen them live three times now and they are incredible, as is this album, worthy of its place in this list and then some
Was aware of Blister in the sun but little else. Sounds pretty dated but no doubt influential, can’t see myself revisiting it
Obviously a very influential band who I remember being quite excited about at the time but never got to see live, so many bands have aped their sound and they are good but I didn’t get as excited listening to it again 15 years later
The first album on the list that I’ve never heard of, or the artist even, whilst it’s definitely not my thing, I can appreciate it and wouldn’t want to give it too low a score as certain it’s been influential
An album I own on vinyl, but haven’t given it as much time as I should have and this has prompted my to do just that, I love the previous two and been fortunate to see them live twice, Barrowland and Southbank Centre, it sounds like it would reward with repeated listens.
First heard Sigur Ros in the film Vanilla Sky and went straight out to buy this album on CD and they quickly became one of my favourites, have seen them 3 times live I think, T In The Park, Academy, Playhouse and they are incredible
Had never listened to a full album by them but fair to say, no Funkadelic, no Prince so far that reason alone they should get a good rating, a lot of high pitch screams and bass lines that the wee man has definitely ripped off, no bad thing
Not someone I’ve listened to much bar Toms Diner and Luka but this was a really cool album and I’ll listen to it again
Could write an essay on how amazing this album is, on certain days of the week it is my favourite of all time, Phil Selway signed my CD when he played a show in King Tuts and it’s treasured, I bought it on the day of release! Would give it a 6 if possible
Considering I’ve never had time for this band or this album really, I was a little surprised by how nostalgic it made me feel, I was expecting to rate it a 1 or 2 but I think a 3 would be more fair, hadn’t ever really listened all the way through before, can see why it was popular
Had no idea Cat Stevens did the Extras theme for one, enjoyable record apart from that plus Father and Son is a stone cold classic, would listen again.
Only really knew I Am The Law but the rest was what I expected, absolutely over the top 80s metal which sparked a nostalgia for me going round to my Dads pals house and hanging out with his son who was a few years older and he got me into all this sort of stuff, good fun
A bit messy, not really my thing tbh but can appreciate it, Paper Planes is obviously a massive tune and didn’t realise til a good while after that it sampled The Clash
The Who are a band I’ve always liked but not loved but seeing them live first at T In The Park then Live Aid I fully appreciate how brilliant they are and this album is as good a showcase for them with Baba O’Riley and Won’t Get Fooled Again 5/5 on their own
Absolutely mental, first song knew my Uncle would be a fan of them and he was Worth listening to for their Opus and Queen covers
Never really listened to Zappa before but more fool me, this is brilliant! Can hear so much in this that he’s influenced, wild it’s from 1969 too, his son Dweezil played King Tut’s in Glasgow which I only discovered recently, will listen again
Another album that unlocked a nostalgic portal that I wasn’t aware of, amazing band and lucky to have seen them live once headlining Latitude feat guest appearance from Thom Yorke. A 5/5 all day long, the influence can’t be understated
If anyone is giving this less than a 5 then they need to have a word, Queen Bitch alone makes it so, unbelievable album from one of the best to do it
Had a memorable night with the band after their show at the ABC in Glasgow a few years ago, took them to Sleazys and they loved it. First saw them in the 6 Music tent at Latitude Festival and they blew me away, have loved everything they’ve done since, including this
Interesting to listen to the tracks outwith the single but don’t think they lift the record to anything above a 3 really, it’s good but didn’t blow me away on first listen, the nostalgia of Praise You and Rockefeller Skank hit hard though
A seminal album from my youth, cut about St Mary’s primary in flares and SPX with a flowery shirt aged 11 cos I was obsessed with them. Met John Squire backstage working at T in the Park and now pals with his son, funny old game! Such an amazing album, every song golden
A band who I’m aware of because of my Dad really, I think it sounds a little dated to be honest but by no means bad, enjoyed it but not sure I’ll go back for repeat listens
One of the very few albums I bought years ago on CD but don’t still have as I’m certain someone who came to work in my flat stole it! I did love it at the time though and was nostalgic listening back to it 20 years on. Comfortably Numb still a great cover and while it’s not all as good, you can hear the Elton John influence all over it
Interesting album by a band I’d never heard of in my life, which has definitely been sampled a lot. Not sure if I’d revisit but cool to have listened
I absolutely loved this album, only really knew Love and Affection but it’s one of the ones I’ve listened to the most so far, I may even buy it, tremendous
There is absolutely no way I could give this anything other than a 5, it will always be a huge regret I didn’t see them live til 97! I remember hearing Lamacq playing snippets of Cast No Shadow and Champagne Supernova before its release during an interview with Liam and Noel and knowing full well they were gonna take over things!
The Felice Bros would not exist without this guy! Not my usual thing but appreciated it nonetheless, puts a lot of this modern country nonsense to shame!
Black Monk Time was not available on Spotify so listened to a best of comp that was. I’d never heard of them before but was surprised and you can definitely tell of their influence particularly on garage rock
I’d heard of this album being spoken about in hushed tones, easy to understand why after listening, songwriting is amazing and was surprised to discover she is the writer of some incredible songs indeed, a few I knew well, listened to this more than once and more than quite a lot of the others so far
Bought this on CD from Fopp many moons ago after seeing the great man live in Manchester, it’s a 5 easy
Was never overly impressed with The Zutons, appreciated what they did and respect them for the singles but this as an album didn’t do much for me, I get why they are liked as a band though
