Duke Ellington is a classic! This album is a great compilation of some of his band's greatest hits. Late 50's he was nearing the end of his career, but he has still got it!!
Early album for TH - really interesting to see how simple the sound was for them starting out. The quirkiness of David Byrne is there, but I think the group found their real new wave sound on the album "Remains in the Light".
Aretha! Whatβs not to love π
Love David Bowie getting to do his music - a couple of the songs are a little out there for me personally, but I love his voice and the fact that this album lets his lyrics and harmonies stand for themselves.
Sultans of Swing is a fave
Really surprising how american bluesy this entire album is - definitely one for late night chilling.
Fun early eighties pop - "Love plus one" - see everyone dancing at a party and singing "Aye ya ya ya ya ya"
Hard not to smile when you listen to this :-) Four just for the pure fun factor!
Experimental sounds, combinations ( Castinet guitars - who knew you could make that sound with a guitar). I am sure musicians and producers love to see if they can make these sounds. As a consumer, however it is not really my thing. Glad to have heard it, but probably won't have these songs on my fave list :-)
Definitely a cultural icon, but not something for light listening.
REM was one of the college bands that were fun to see live - they had their sound and stuck with it. OK for nostalgia, but even the hits on this album are not my fave REM tracks.
Very mellow music - good for a wind down
I had never heard Joan, my dad played the guitar and it reminds me of the genre he enjoyed listening to :-)
Definitely sounded like the 70's bluesy&jazzy - 3-4 minute synth solos :-)
Eagles have some songs that are fun to sing around a campfire or while out on the lake. Don't love, don't hate.
This one hurt my ears as I listened to it at home, but I do not think this is an album for casual and relaxed listening. Best locale is a club, post drinks, when you'll dance to anything or as a movie high action scene soundtrack.
This one made me laugh out loud from the nostalgia of hearing early punk rock! I do not think I have ever heard any of these songs before - the Ramones, Clash, and Dead Kennedys were more on my radar. The pace is relentless - reminding me of why punk is best served in small doses. If you are into punk this one probably rates higher for you. For me, well not so much - once the nostalgia wore off, the screaming continued.
A classic - he three little birds video made me lol - sets a relaxed mood for sure.
Love the Clash! Funny story - always thought it was so cool and edgy, then my daughter's 3rd grade chorus sang "Train in Vain" as part of an eighties tribute!
This was recorded live? Great sound quality. Bluesy & relaxing music, but need to be in a mood to listen to it for more than a few songs.
Enough Eno - not really something worth my time
was ok - nothing earth shattering - played find in the background without distracting or inspiring me - I guess 1001 albums is a lot if this one makes the cut.
It's the Beatles - early-ish album with a lot of known tracks. I enjoyed it.
Amazing voice - definitely a trip back in time - nice to hear those 70's vibes again.
Seemed nice as background music. Floaty.
not in the mood - too dark and angsty.
It's the White album - iconic songs w/ new ideas on sounds and lyrics - what else is there to say?
I wanted to like it more than I did. There are better 80's new wave examples IMO
Nice music bye the "S" of CSNY. 70's vibe.
Love 90's music and this album kicked that decade off with a bang!
Have been able to see BB King and Lucille perform live a couple of times - he is the real deal!
One of my favorite albums of all time!
Another fave! This playing in a dome theater with a laser light show was the epitome of cool :-)
Playing in on digital with the songs cut up was sort of rough - get this on vinyl and hear the full epic!
Good bluesy background music - bit of a downer given the rest of the albums this week.
Thrasher metal was not really my scene back in the day and listening to this album did not convert me. Much of the thrashing just ran together and was not great for background music either.
So pretty! Definitely dated, but pretty
Love her voice and a couple of the songs - the rest are a bit out there for me. Later album, Hounds of Love was/is a favorite album.
He got what he needed out of this album, but I did not need to go through all that.
Did not enjoy, gave me a headache
Enjoyed the rhythm and mellow sound - did not understand the lyrics at all but that's OK
In Da Club was everywhere and is still referenced in pop culture, but the rest is not anything that really resonates with me
Enjoyed this - I remember when they came into prominence with Graceland. Fun to hear more from this group.
Been caught stealing still holds up - not sure if the entire album was too worthy of accolade, but it was OK.
I had heard "Alright" in a ton of movies , but I had not listened to this album. It was fun and new.
