Odelay
BeckNot bad. Ive never been a big Beck fan but I can see his influence.

Iggy and Bowie’s stint in Berlin yielded the some of the best music of both of their careers. The title track always makes me think of Trainspotting.
Simon and Garfunkel at their creative apex. Not every song lends itself as a classic, but this album is extremely efficient coming in under 30 min.
Love Nilsson. I spin this album frequently so its an easy 5 star for me.
It’s aged better than other 90’s grunge albums. It doesnt resonate with me as much as it did when I was a miserable teenage misanthrope but theres still a handful of genre defining singles: Them Bones, Would?, and Down in a Hole.
Elvis had the juice. On some tracks you can hear him clapping and slapping his knees. You can tell he was feeling it. Even after 50 years, Suspicious Minds is still a killer earworm. Ultimately it reminds me of my grandma so it gets a slight bump.
Gotta admire this album from a technical perspective. It has such a slick production for 1977. Maybe a little too slick. “Peg” and “Josie” are fun. In the end, I prefer other SD albums more.
Very groovy. Need to check out more.
Havent listened to this one in years. I love the stripped down production of it. Great timeless tunes.
This was a nice surprise. Never heard of this group before so I came in with no expectations or presumptions. Great to listen to while working.
Might be a perfect record
13 year old me would’ve given this a 5 star review. Some classic tunes on here but a few don’t really land for me.
Arguably Bowie’s artistic high watermark. One I always go back to.
I liked the more melodic tracks better than the harcore ones.
First time listening to Fishbone. Each song was a surprise. Need to check out some of their other stuff.
Not bad. Ive never been a big Beck fan but I can see his influence.
Theres a reason it’s legendary. I listened to the dolby atmos mix and this thing sounds like it was made yesterday. Nothing but bangers.
Ive heard these songs soooooo much on classic rock radio. I never need to hear them again.
I’m going to be spinning this one regularly. Sounds like if Duran Duran were more artsy and influenced by Berlin era Bowie
Kind of a snoozer for me but it was fine. Im sure Yusuf/Cat is well respected for his playful lyricism but I just wasnt in the mood for the easy-breezy hippy-dippiness of it all. I prefer others in this genre a little bit more. Father and Son is a great track though.
This takes me back to senior year of HS. When this came out it sounded so fresh compared to the slew of post hardcore/emo bands that were still dominating MTV.
I think I still like Document and Automatic for the People more but this one is probably more inspired and sonically eclectic.
I like the gritty aesthetic that fuses rockabilly, roots rock and punk but this LP is lacking memorable songs. Their sophomore LP Miami is superior in that regard. For rockabilly infused punk I still think the Cramps do it best.
Not quite in a low enough state to really immerse myself in Elliott Smith rn.
My friend in high school used to play this album a lot. I didnt really appreciate it at the time but now I see the vision.
Pretty decent 60’s baroque pop, outside of the obvious banger, it doesnt quite stack up against the other heavy hitters in that genre. Not bad though by any means.
It’s crazy how influential this album was. I hear so many future artists in it like Nick Cave, Tom Waits, REM etc.
Where have all the Janets gone?
Classic Jimi. Its hard to understate the influence this album had on Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, David Gilmour and all the other blues rock based guitarists of that era. In a historical context I give this a 5/5 but since my current listening proclivities are riding a different wavelength, I’m feeling a 4/5.
Hardly even music. More like experimental auditory art I guess? Not my cuppa tea. I can see its influence on various electronic genres but it sounds more like a cacophonous collection of Brian Eno demos that would, in any other case, be left on the cutting room floor.
Even though I personally didnt feel much from these songs, which left me a bit cold, it deserves the hype and I see the vision. Its a Literally every indie band nowadays sounds like they’re trying to be Sonic Youth. But yea, this is like the Beatles White album for indie/alt kids. If I wouldve discovered this as a teenager I would have ate it up.
They sure don’t make em like they used to.
Still a gorgeous album. First time listening since high school. At that time, Sigur Ros sounded like they came from a different planet but now I see the influences of Talk Talk, My Bloody Valentine and even the Smashing Pumpkins.
Hands down the best album of the 90’s. I don’t care about your Nirvanas and Pearl Jams. This is it. This is the one. So shiny and oh so bright.
Aside from the Stooges, I cant think of another band from the late 60’s who influenced punk and alternative music as much as MC5. They really deliver a frenetic energy absent from their peers. “Starship” sounds like it shouldve came out 10 years later.
Not my favorite NO album but ‘The Perfect Kiss’ is 🤌🏻 muah!
Almost a 5 star album, if not for a couple skips. Still a fantastic LP, containing perhaps the most quintessential Bowie track in Life on Mars.
