The songs are well-written, well-performed, and well-produced but they just did not hit me at all. I can see why people love it, but it just isn't for me.
There's the one Pretenders song everyone knows, then a bunch of other songs that sound nothing like that one but all sound the same.
It's just too much wokka wokka guitar.
That's way more Christine McVie than I expected.
The dude has an objectively terrible voice and the lyrics are as stilted as the earliest protest singer/songwriters, but the music and melodies got me.
This feels like music from a Wes Anderson or Tarantino movie. I thought it was excellent.
There's some really good stuff here. When the song "Saturday Night" started I was like, "I know this song...but from where?" then it hit me. It was on the soundtrack of Madden '05, which I played an insane amount.
That was unexpectedly rad. I can imagine putting that vinyl on the hi-fi with some over-ear headphones and smokin' a doob.
This just isn't for me. It feels like Isaac Hayes is the black Frank Zappa.
5 seconds in and I'm reminded of how afraid parents were of Snoop back in the day. Definitely not the friendly cartoon character he is today. It's crazy how important this album is in the history of American music and there are long sections dedicated to making fun of Easy E. Is this a Dre album or a Snoop album?
