Overall I thought this album was pretty good but also had some notable flaws. It was a very mixed bag, which was evident with the tracks from this track list that i did enjoy, the ones I didn’t enjoy and the ones I just felt neutrally or couldn’t make my mind up. There are some really powerful one and some really meh ones. Didn’t quite click with me but I’ll be sure to visit some of his other music after checking out Queen of Denmark.

Super nice rhythms/melodies throughout. Marvin Gaye has a very significant voice in soul music and the 1970s. I think even when I wasn't 100% hooked on a song from this tracklist, the importance of this project maintains a high score. Overall a nice display of cool and important messages, with good vocals, production and rhythm. (7/10)
Right from the first song I felt a bit unsure on the vocals... While he has a very strong and projective voice, I did feel there was a certain whiney-ness to it. The songwriting didn't blow me away and felt very of its time (not that that is a bad thing.) However something that did stick out were the melodies and instrumentation on a lot of songs. Those two conventions managed to make up for any times I wasn't enjoying his vocals. There were some very upbeat tracks (such as "Miles From Nowhere") and some very slow and calm songs (such as "Into White" and many others.) So overall this was not a bad album, but - and this surprises me as a big Nick Drake fan - it was just a neutral listen for me. (5/10)
Unending energy and atmosphere! For a release from 1958 this felt very original and authentic, trailblazing even. Taking into account also the fact that this was probably one of the first Big Band/Swing albums to release, I was very impressed. It almost got a bit generic and uninteresting towards the end but saved itself with some melodies and a calm finale.
While not bad in any way I personally just found this track list to be very generic, not well suited to my taste, annoying and repetitive. Who knows, maybe with some time I’ll relisten to this and find enjoyment in the conventions it possesses, that I still think, in terms of quality, are not all that bad.
For me personally, this always been a lovely record. Partly for the fact that it was vinyl record I could ever officially say I owned when I was gifted one Christmas by my grandma. Not only does it possess many classic, catchy and good quality Beatles songs, but also contains some lesser known (still very mainstream) tracks. The psychedelic elements are performed very nicely, with good vocals and instrumentation from all members. For some reason, I'm not 100% which it is, this track list doesn't quite feel like some of their other works, the songs all have a nice charm to them that generally earn themselves a good score.
Overall the upbeat-ness was quite enjoyable but otherwise, apart from a few liked songs, this track list really didnt stick out or affect me in anyway and while not bad in any way was just generally a neutral listen. I could definitely have said more about this album but if I had to add one more thing I’d say all the instrumentation and melodies, while still not bad, got a bit generic.
Generally I thought it was okay. For some 80s synthpop, it was a cool listen. Usually I have enjoyed a lot of synthpop in the past, however I feel like there is a big difference between the synthpop of this time (1981) and that of it today. Back then the genre featured slightly different and/or a lack of certain conventions - such as distant and echoey vocals, very high (almost winey in my opinion) notes or vocals, and just very synthetic production. Not a bad album but pretty annoying at times.
I’d never really cared or explored Nirvana’s music before this, so it was interesting to get a taste of their sound. I tend to be more interested in lesser-known obscure rock and not generic mainstream releases. This project is one of the most well-known ones of all time. However I think that there was a lot of Grunge/Alt-Rock coming out in the decades during and after this release so the fact that this amassed so much popularity may just show how good quality it is. The band had some pretty cool melodies, and while I didn’t think I even knew any of these songs, I found myself recognising many melodies and lyrics. Overall a cool listen.
This album feels really quite hit or miss, while at first I instantly felt like I was enjoying the obvious folk rock sound, there were a few, pretty short, songs that just completely went by without having any affect on me. They were generally just pretty generic and unenjoyable. The psychedelic production and melodies throughout this track list did have a big affect on me, but sadly overall too many songs slipped by me with no impact for me to enjoy this more.

Out of the soul singers I have checked out so far in my dive into the genre I would say there have been a fair amount more I prefer to Otis Redding. Don't get me wrong, I think he has a projective and powerful voice but the thing I like more about this project would be the production, big instrumentation and maybe even the songwriting, all in contrast to the vocals. Still nothing bad, just not my favourite.
Nothing necessarily awful about this track list, but my interest was not maintained. I often felt bored, frustrated or angrily confused at the music. More towards the end I found disjointed and terribly dull.
