Live!
Fela Kuti
Ended up liking this a lot more than I expected. I’ve been getting into live jam music more lately and that’s exactly what this is. Five songs and just over an hour. It’s a lot of horns and bass and drums and keyboards in a funk direction but I can get down with it

It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back
Public Enemy
Terminator X I think was a great DJ for the time. Chuck D’s rhymes, while strongly political, are weak and have no bite. I don’t even think he was very good compared to others of the time and he has 99% of the lyrics. Flav is overrated as a hype man. Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos I probably enjoyed most on the album but feel no need to ever listen to it again even.

The Joshua Tree
U2
I’m not a big U2 fan, but you can’t deny the mastery of an album with 4 songs that have been on regular radio rotation since the album’s release. Bullet the Blue Sky, probably the least popular of those four, is probably my favorite. There’s probably a bit of bias there because it hasn’t been overplayed quite as much as the other 3 of those 4 songs. The ones I didn’t know didn’t seem to have much to them. So 4 great songs and the rest, but I doubt I ever feel the need to listen again.

So hard to rate an album that I knew most of the words and am so familiar with 7 out of the 8 songs because they’ve been on rotation on radio since I’ve been alive. That fact alone means it’s an incredible album, but so familiar that I’ll probably never put it on again.

Great album. Not something I’ll probably ever put back on just cause it’s not really my style, but didn’t hate it at all.

Dinosaur Jr.
This album is at least 8 or 10 years ahead of its time. If I would have had to guess what year without knowing I think I would’ve said at least 1996. Great alternative sound on most of the tracks except a couple that are a little harder and more punky. Most songs remind me of Our Lady Peace mixed with Foo Fighters or something similar. If I would’ve found this album and band in the early 2000s when I was listening to this type stuff it would’ve been on repeat for a while.

I’m not very into EDM, but this was a fun album to listen to. Immediately when the first song got going I recognized it as something I’d heard on a commercial or 5. Enjoyed listening to this one

Really enjoyed this album. Only song I had ever heard off of it was Bloody Well Right, but highlights for me were School, Asylum, and Rudy.

What a boring album. Lyrics like nonsensical poetry, no meat to it whatsoever. It’s not the worst instrumentally, as I do like folksy music, but nothing there to bring me back.

Yeezus
Kanye West
This must've been about the time he lost his silly ass mind. One of the worst albums I've ever suffered through. Beats suck, lyrics suck, and nothing worth listening to again on the whole album. I've got lots of Kanye songs from earlier albums in my library that I love, but this is just garbage and basically everything after he did The Throne with Jay-Z is too as far as I can tell.

Nas
Good album. Very enjoyable listen, Nas was definitely in the echelon of the biggest names in the rap game at that time in the early to mid-nineties and if I would have given this album the time that I gave Tupac, Biggie, and OutKast’s. I think it kinda just didn’t get the rep in the southern states as it did in the northeastern US.

Stevie Wonder
I was excited when I got a Stevie Wonder album, but I ended up a bit disappointed. The music definitely has a little bit of beauty to it, but just seemed very boring to me lyrically. Nothing that I wanted to listen to again.

Mott The Hoople
This has to be a parody right? First off, I’d never heard of Mott. So I started the album and wondered why I had never heard of them being it sounds like a familiar classic rock song. Then they sounded like they couldn’t decide who they were trying to be. I’m convinced this was made by AI. Horrible

Having heard the song Celebrity Skin on the radio I didn’t expect much out of it, but being able to hear all the lyrics in my AirPods I got a new appreciation for it. I enjoyed Malibu more than I thought I would as well. The rest of the album is mediocre but not unlistenable.

Only really enjoyed 2 of the 4 songs I knew. But can’t really deny the success of those 4 smash hits. Curious how I would’ve felt about them if I hadn’t heard them so many times on the radio before today. Dookie was the first album I ever bought with my own money, and will at least get 4 if not 5 stars if it comes up. This just seems way more commercially produced and frankly not as good. Still I can’t say it wasn’t listenable.

Such a great album. My first 5. Obviously very familiar with multiple songs on the album, but the ones that I wasn’t aware of were so beautiful. Damn shame Jimi was too cool for this world… what a musical genius.
