Spy Vs. Spy: The Music Of Ornette Coleman
John ZornUnfortunately for the tasteless haters and losers on this website, this album rips. Good for sitting in traffic.

I know art is subjective and all, but if you don’t like this you’re wrong and stupid.
First listen, very fun chill album for the most part, very few lows, with some really great moments.
One of, if not the, greatest protest albums of all time. It can be hard to strip an albums musical content from the context of when/why it was written, and in the case of Zombie, probably completely unnecessary. I can say with no doubt though that the music stands on its own, and becomes even more powerful when one digs into the context and understands exactly what it meant to release this album and why Kuti felt it was necessary.
First time listening, pretty good. Wish I could understand any of it.
A lot of fun beats throughout, laying the foundation on what’s to come for the group. Not necessarily the album I reach for when it comes to their discography, I think they improved their sound on low end theory and again on midnight marauders. Nonetheless a pretty fun album that I enjoyed but probably won’t reach for when I feel like listening to a tribe called quest.
Great example of an album where the term “dated” can be used as a positive. I don’t think I’ll be revisiting very often, it’s just not my kind of music. But know that every time Alive comes on in public and people make fun of Vedder’s voice it’s because they secretly love this stuff, no matter how corny they insist it is.
How many bands out there could write a song like If I Fell and it not even be in the top 50 songs of their discography. Easily their best album pre-Help, and contains some real gems. That being said, there’s some really forgettable tracks on here, as there is on every Beatles album before they stopped touring.
I don’t even dislike it. It’s just 2X longer than I have the patience for. Maybe that says more about me than the album itself.
I should have realized sooner that this project is going to be hell for people that don’t like prog rock. GET ON WITH IT ALREADY.
Good.

This would go so hard waiting in line at a Walgreens. If the rest of the album sounded more like the first song I’d probably enjoy it a lot more. Unfortunately the vast majority of the album is far more boring.
As a song writer, McCartney is probably my favorite of the Beatles. I like a good bit of his solo work, but if you’re remotely familiar with the roles each member played in the Beatles, listening to McCartneys work post-Beatles can sometimes feel like something’s missing. That said this album isn’t without its moments and well worth a listen. It sits somewhere between full pop McCartney and his more out there work, a good happy medium.
Depression
Didn’t expect to enjoy this as much as I did. Wish it was on streaming so more people could find it.
This is like if Zappa was a little less annoying and a little less talented.
Sucks. About 45 minutes too long.

The production on this album is incredible. It seems like a lot of people on this site are disregarding this album solely because it’s Madonna. What’s the point of doing this list if that’s your attitude? Get over yourself. This album is over an hour and there’s really not a dull moment. Genuinely interesting and fun, and like I said, the production is phenomenal.
Vastly preferred the 2nd half to the 1st.
Every time I listen to Black Sabbath I think to myself, why don’t I listen to Black Sabbath more?
Earns a star for the fun 80s production alone. Just wish the actual songs were better.
Pros: the Jordanaires Cons: the rest
One of the greatest lyricists and song writers of the past 50 years. I’m not sure how this album in particular was chosen over American water or even the natural bridge, which I think exemplifies Berman’s unique style of writing far better, but I’ll never complain about having to listen to a Silver Jews album. If you didn’t like this album I’d urge you to listen to purple mountains, one of the best and most powerful albums of the 21st century. If that clicks for you then maybe you’ll find a new appreciation for this one as well.
