Not something I would typically listen to. The music is good but the way she meanders through lyrics makes me think of a four year old just making up songs off the top of their head. It’s like if Anne Murray was given a pound of weed and told to do a poetry slam over some easy listening/flower child hippy jam mashups. Not my cup of tea.
The music is great. The singing is not for me and the lyrics are playful but not moving. If there were an instrumental version of this album I would listen to it.
They heavily influenced 80s synth pop and for that they deserve a rating. Some of the tunes were ok.
An album full of bangers. Enjoyed this one. Didn’t realize how many of her songs I’d heard before in movies/etc.
Stereolab lite. I could vibe to it a little but only select songs.
This is as I remembered it. He was such a great lyricist and linguist but I never really liked the shock value of his rhymes. I passed up his headline performance at Altanta Warped Tour. I feel the same way about him now as I did then.
Plenty of solid tracks. The radio songs were a trip down memory lane.
Their impact on the postpunk emo era is evident. Bands like mineral, sunny day real estate, etc. reflect this sound.
His voice doesn’t do it for me. And a southern man don’t need him around anyhow.
There are a lot of people that love this and I appreciate why. To me it is OK and talented songwriting, but kinda like the Eminem album last week, never something I chose to listen to. Something about the industrial sound doesn’t click for me. I feel like I am the naysayer in this group the last two days with Neal Young (good music/songwriting but can’t get past the vocals) and NIN (similar but more about the music/vocal combo).
This was pure old school country.
Great album. I’d listened to certain songs but not the whole thing. Wonderful mix of musical styles and a chill vibe the whole way through. Loved it.
Great vibe. Classic stuff.
At first I was like “not too bad, nice vibe”,
And then I was like “wow, these songs sound the same”,
And then I was like “so this is what it felt like to get trapped on an elevator in the year I was born”
And then I was like “I dunno if I can finish this”
And then I was like “only 6 songs to go”
And then it was over.
Great vibe the whole way through.
I don’t think this is his best work. It was fine. I can see how influential it was and it’s a decent listen.
This is a solid album and has the best rendition of Layla hands down.
Solid riffs. Lyrics need work.
There was a time period where I listened to this album every day. Some great songs here.
The music is awesome. The lyrics are weak.
Hadn’t given it a serious listen in the past. This would have been on heavy rotation in my late teens/early 20s. Fun songs.
Great vibe the whole way through.
Love these guys for so many reasons
Super solid beginning to end
Should be a four for influence, but not my taste.
