Nothing's Shocking
Jane's AddictionSounds like my brotherβs room when I walked down the hallway in 1996. Great grunge, with some melodic elements that remind me of Led Zeppelin. Favorite track is βUp the Beachβ.

I love this style of storytelling folk songs. These all seem like lullabies. The incorporation of traditional Christian hymns further grounds this in Texas culture. I feel like i learned something about the fabric of central Texas
Two Willie albums in a row? Dang, how many Willie albums are in this 1001 collection? This is a great melodic album full of more lullabies. I wished for more folk-song-storytelling like on red headed stranger. This album made me realize what a player Willie is/was lol. Pretty album and enjoyable to listen to, but not a lot of variety.
Hell yeah, this is exactly what I was hoping to get out of this project. Iβve never heard of this band, and this is a great album. I love the random funk track and the threat to the queen using Scarborough fair.
This album is very far out of my comfort zone, and I can see why it is so iconic. I heard a lot of these motifs in popular 90s media. My favorite thing about this album is the storytelling. I'm glad I had a reason to listen to this from start to finish. However, the imagery is pretty gross for me personally, so I won't be returning to it.
I had no idea this album was so old?! I always associate Rage Against the Machine with the early 00s. I really needed to hear an album like this in the politically cursed year of 2025. I love all the unashamed activism and calling out of very specific injustices. Great music for workout, protest, crashout, etc. Iconic sound, but the songs get pretty repetitive. Mainly walking away with: "Why stand on a silent platform? Fight the war, fuck the norm." and "Mindset is a threat".
Damn, he's dropping the N word in the first song, huh? This is wild to listen to the day after listening to Rage Against the Machine because I feel like Rage is empowering (and has a meaningful political message) where as Manson is just obnoxiously cynical and angry. "Angry boy music", as a friend of mine calls it. Lyrics aside, the sound is pretty fun. Lots of variety of sounds between "deformography" and "cryptorchid". I could see myself screaming to "tourniquet" in the car. I also liked this a lot more after learning that is was a concept rock opera album.
Hell yeah, I LOVE soul and blues. In reading about this album, I learned that Redding was backed by the Stax label house band- Booker T. & the M.G.'s! This album slaps, I love it start to finish.
