what you get when a heroine addict is aggressively mediocre. There are a few songs that are played on ye olde radio but the rest are like hippies taking one step away from 1950s early 60s rock, as in there is bridge to more modern music and they aren't over it, or in the middle, but have one foot on the bridge and one in the 1950s.
Not terrible, just aggressive beige.
I would have got into it if i were a teen as an adult it has a built in whinge under the music that rubs my taint. Listened to an earlier album 'sandbox' and that was okay. Who is picking these albums? AI or a first year art student?
Much goodly. Talking Heads was the big thing when i was a kid but i never got into them - '77' though is much accessible, with the same wry social observation.
Will Keep.
I listened to this - and all the Queen albums pressed at the time - in my adolescence years and absolutely jizzed over them. Listened a few years back and was surprised and a little downcast at how they had faded in my estimation. Lets see what this is like with another relisten...
there are one or two zingers but the album is a bit all-over-the-place. The harmonies that work in BR kill the ompf of The Prophet, I dislike the sentiment of Keep Yourself Alive but the others are good or a bit of laugh.
On my patented -100 to 100 rating scale - where zero is that okay film that you didn't realise you were watching for a second time until 15 minutes in - its 65
Thought it was going to be a bit try-hard artsy but quite liked it.
On my patented -100 to 100 rating scale - where 100 is god herself coming down and giving me the best sex ever, respecting me in the morning and doing the dishes on the way out is 90+ (because nothing get 100 in an imperfect world - i mean look at the sheets!) it gets 60

For years i wondered "is pop and popular music the same thing?"until I finally looked it up. This is pop music pa excellence, that is top down produced created only to make money and the lyrics are love baby love love me me love me me me. Look at that photo: either he is well stoned or his soul has left his body - perhaps both.
If two music exes went to cocktail lounge and these two were making wallpaper music and one said "Bet you five bucks i can make them a hit," this is what you'd get.
The first song was urgh okay but as the album went on it became like being immersed in a sensory deprivation tank.
On my patented -100 to 100 where -90 is being put into a sensory deprivation tank and forgotten about for 5 days this is -10 for any single song but increasing minus the more songs you listen to: -60 -70ish for the album taken as a hole - i mean whole. It's a guesstimate as i couldn't finish the last two songs - my soul was leaving me.
I was put off by the first song saying 'black is beautiful' over and over - the second song saying back black black over and over - imagine if the first and second song said "white is right" and "white white white" over and over. This tainted the third song which is just a list of countries in Africa, and the four about police violence. Song odd matters, people! There's songs about god too. *coughs like Gollom eating elf bread* Ignoring the first two songs - and the lyrics generally - the vocals are nice but nothing special and the instruments sparse to the point of void.
I suppose if your lived experience is being subject to prejudice in a overtly racist society then this may speak to you.
In my patented -100 to 100 rating system where -50 is being preached to in a closed space on a hot day is -50 then this is -30 because at least i could get away.
Funny how something that is very like another thing can have a totally different reaction. Mama's and Papa's album left me cold but the Byrds are okay.
On my patented -100 to 100 scale where being tickled by someone you don't like is -60 but being tickled my someone who gives you sticky pants is +40 this is a 30
The album has a picture of what i can only image is a woman pleasuring herself - my eyes doth roll - but in listening to Otis my eyes are still rolling but behind closed eyes like hers.
On my patented -100 to 100 scale if judging an album by its cover is -30 but taking the time to discover you were a tit is +40 then this was +70
Tried to listen to all but eh. Pantera has been around forever and any time i caught them it was "It has all the elements I like - but I just don't." Something about the harsh sound of both guitar and voice combined is graty on the nerves. Song 3 'Hollow' was okay - but not representative of their work as a whole.
On my patented -100 to +100 rating scale where ripping open that box to find the product inside is misrepresented by the photo on the box is a -30 this is -50.

What can you say about motorhead, or more exactly lemmy, because lemmy was motherhead and motorhead was lemmy. Of course the drummers and guitarists who passed through rock and gave life to motorhead. Motohead was the rock 'n' roll lifestyle personified and influenced heavy metal and punk music then and to this day. I usually prefer studio over live but NSTH rocks hard!
On my patented -100 to +100 scale if having an angry orgasm is +70 then NSTH is an exhibitionist having one in public: +90
At the first song I thought that I'd not like it as its like a musical car crash -- but i listened to the whole album. The one thing that doesn't work for me is the vocals - but they meld with the whole and it may be that no other vocal style would work, just that i can't understand a single word (but maybe that's the point).
On my -100 to + 100 scale if in a foreign country a mistress takes you to her dungeon and the same words for "more" and "yes" in her language are "no" and "stop" in yours - but at the end you kinda liked it - is a +50, Scum is a +30.
This is so familiar that I don't know if it was heavily played on radio (that's like a streaming service that you can't personalise for you youngsters) or that I owned it as some point.
On my patented -100 to +100 rating scale where where suddenly recognising a song makes one feel old is -20 moondance is like a warm glass of milk: +50
I haven't listened to hip hop and what is being served here at 1001 is turning me off it.
Now and then and forever I have had the reoccurring thought "must get some the the" and just didn't.
Listen to it and said "oh - eh"
Then listened again.
There is a problem with 1001 that is inheritant in out disposable culture. 30+ years ago you would buy it and if it was a bit "meh" you would listen again - because $30+ in local money was a bit rich so you tried to get some value out of it. Now we listen once - if that - and if it doesn't set out pants afire we dump it.
On the second listen it clicked.
This is summer music - by the beach or with friends at the park playing touch rugby.
On my -100 to 100 patented scale if once was zero then the second time was 70
On my -100 to 100 patented scale it was like 20.
