People whose favorite video game is The Last of Us be like: "Like a rejected musical coming to haunt me" This 1001 Album project will unfortunately likely rarely have any through composed, chromatic heavy, or heavy use of orchestral instruments, which is what much music was until into the 20th century. Listening to this "album" is a good reminder at how much even well composed and varied contemporary popular music can still branch out, as time marches on and music gets more streamlined in an effort to distill music into things that top charts. And how people should be exposed to more music that isn't just something to nod along to.
Mostly covers, but enjoyed the instrumentation a lot. Scott's use of spoken word was very interesting but I did feel like it was a bit too much for some songs - although I'm not sure if that's how the songs originally were composed. Wish we'd get more of this genre today, I'd kill to have a subgenre of crooners and such still around. A few too many ballads as the album goes on for me though.
Glock + piano = banger Idk I feel like it's all self evident, this genre of music (jazz rock?) is fantastic and it takes a fair amount of skill to compose it all without being overbearing
Perhaps I'd need to expose myself to more blues and rock to appreciate it, but I was just bored. Nothing stood out to me, the songs are pretty simply composed and the instrumentation is traditionally barebones.
This sucks so much on headphones, definitely of the era where they just made stereo like the Beatles Anyways I can see how this was influential for several subgenres and how this was the first art rock album.
Beastie Boys still remain unique (at least from music I've heard). I'd prefer if they would vary it up and not end every single line with the same exact inflection though. Minus one star bc White Castle is disgusting
Even if you don't like jazz, giving an album that is just a collection of jazz standards anything less than 5 stars is a certified CoD gamer move
Just not into this one from them as much as I'd hoped.
