Vulnicura by Björk
Nov 03 2025

Like floating on an electric cloud

In Utero by Nirvana
Nov 06 2025

I had really only known most of these songs as singles on the radio back in the mid 90's. To hear them all together, parse the lyrics, and feel the vibe is to recontextualize this album as a 40 minute suicide note. RIP Kurt. Your songs will outlive us all.

The Suburbs by Arcade Fire
Nov 09 2025

Honestly this album didn't really kick into gear for me until the second half. Just like being in the suburbs I was lulled into a strange calm until something strange kicked me awake.

Juju by Siouxsie And The Banshees
Nov 12 2025
Ágætis Byrjun by Sigur Rós
Nov 14 2025

I was on a walk listening to this album when track 3, Staraflur, came on timed perfectly with the sun breaking through the clouds. I can't think of a nicer moment in recent history. This album combines those ments of transcendent beauty I associate with Sigur Ros, with more rock elements than their later work which I'm more familiar with. I also have a sneaking suspicion that if you played it backwards it would be Radiohead.

The Clash by The Clash
Nov 15 2025

This is really good. I think the Clash didn't properly become themselves until London Calling, but this is still an engaging record.

American Idiot by Green Day
Nov 16 2025

Ok, I was not looking forward to this. American Idiot seemed like one of those fangless relics of Bush era discontent that was further watered down by endless radio and MTV exposure. It's actually pretty good minus songs like Boulevard of Broken Dreams, turning into a rousing rock opera by the end. However, it's a little too monotonous along the way... no Greenday album should be a full hour long.

Penance Soiree by The Icarus Line
Nov 17 2025

This one track, Getting Bright At Night, was a great post-rock song. The rest of the album was pretty boring. Sometimes feels like early Nick Cave, Fugazi, etc.

Stankonia by OutKast
Nov 18 2025

Although this album contains some of my least favorite attributes of aughts hip-hop (skits, casual misogyny, excessive guest stars) it also features some of the most iconic hip-hop songs of our millenium. Stylistically it's all over the place... if Speakerboxx/The Love below is Outkast's White Album, this is Rubbersoul: an album pushing against the boundaries of genre.

Madman Across The Water by Elton John
Nov 21 2025

I love Elton John, but there's a reason that the only song I've heard from this album is Tiny Dancer.

Fulfillingness' First Finale by Stevie Wonder
Nov 22 2025

Despite sounding a little corny and easy-listening adjacent, the vibe won me over. This is a chill album.

Devil Without A Cause by Kid Rock
Nov 23 2025

This is one of the worst musical atrocities ever committed. I actually purchased this album when it was new and boy was I disappointed by how terrible it was.

Scissor Sisters by Scissor Sisters
Nov 28 2025

This was a lot of fun. Elton John with David Bowie, and George Michael, plus some fun dance hall moves of their own.

Diamond Life by Sade
Nov 29 2025

Transcends easy listening 80's jazz to create an enveloping, soulful fog for the listener. I loved this.

Slayed? by Slade
Nov 30 2025

Not for me. It does rock, though.

Dec 01 2025

This was a really good listen, it feels both classic and very modern. You can tell that this band was incredibly influential to rock music in the 2000's.

Bookends by Simon & Garfunkel
Dec 03 2025
Born To Run by Bruce Springsteen
Dec 05 2025

Springsteen has earned his place in the rock pantheon. Born to run will day in your ears for days, Jungleland will burrow into your soul... can you make it through the whole song without tears? Then, you're stronger than me.

Oxygène by Jean-Michel Jarre
Dec 08 2025
Garbage by Garbage
Dec 09 2025

Not just "pop grunge" or whatever they were called back in the day. This is a band with a style that is instantly recognized, that always evokes a feeling, and that you can both hum while skipping or sing low while brooding. Iconic.

Bluesbreakers by John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers
Dec 15 2025

I do love some Blue-eyed Soul, but Blue-eyed Blues? Clapton is good, of course, but this album seriously lacks the proper depth and feeling for blues.
