this isn't my music, but the inspiration Connor Oberst drew from this album in his Commander Venus days seems obvious to me
"androgynous" - can't quite decide if this is critical of 80s androgyny, or in support of it...? "he might be a father but he sure ain't a dad" is a good line
"unsatisfied" and "sixteen blue" are probably the most tolerable tracks for me, the melody of "seen your video" isn't horrid
the guitar and general music of sixteen blue remind me of neko case
answering machine...a relic of another time
i don't believe i've ever even heard of this band before?
mis-shapes is like an anthem for the 2025 "all other gens vs the boomers" situation
pencil skirt - the instrumental break around the midpoint of the song is pretty and pleasant
i spy - best of album for me, aspects of it remind me of lullaby by the cure
disco 2000 - also one of my preferred tracks...the shaky/dramatic inhales are what remind me robert smith
monday morning has a pleasant melody, i like the guitar line
overall, not as bad as my first album, but no tracks i'd choose to listen to again. however, spotify moved onto another pulp album after this one and it's better!
most tolerable album thus far (my third) but still, no tracks i'd choose to listen to again.
this one just fades into the background for me...not bad OR good enough to catch my attention
aladdin sane - piano is very pretty, tori-esque at times
cracked actor, time - these were my tops until lady grinning soul, which is the only song from this project to make it to my saved playlist thus far
"all i had to give was guilt for the dreaming"
first album of the project that i'm passingly familiar with
teach your children, the home, woodstock are the most tolerable
teach your children and the home were songs i already knew
the late 60s and the 70s...they're just not my time period. please...take me to a different decade...PLEASE IM BEGGING U
sometimes i'd read the lyrics in advance and think the song might be promising because the words were appealing, pretty, etc. - but no. it's always painful, a borderline cacophony of unpleasant sounds
this isn't AS bad as the replacements album, but i have to give it one star because i found it actively aversive to listen to
I'M FINALLY OUT OF THE PSYCHEDELIC 70S!
never heard of this group, surprisingly, because they are in line with my existing musical preferences
excellent lyrics, pleasant melodies - street joy was my favorite and the only track to make it to my saved playlist.
not an instant love, but instantly appreciated
the album art is a 10 for me
overall tolerable, i've never been into prolonged instrumentals and this project is making me realize anything "psychedelic" is not for me. recognized several songs just from existing in the world, but not a single song i'd actively choose to play.
"samba pa ti" was a high point
hi its me the world's newest klaxons fan
two receivers instantly had me hooked
atlantis to interzone made me think, maybe that one wasn't a fluke
this album has a hit rate that rivals some of my all-time favorite artists' releases
it reminds me of my golden era of youth and musical exploration. i'm reminded of muse, modest mouse, placebo, even dresden dolls in some odd ways. i appreciate the spooky-lite vibes of some of the tracks. almost all of this album made it to my playlist.
finally! a 5🌟 album for me
...i'm sorry, what?
not certain if this link is correct - perhaps it is meant to be the deluxe release, which has...more than the two aongs this one does?
i have never heard a black keys song i enjoyed...i've even seen them live and i cannot NAME a single black keys song...but i will listen with an open mind
next girl, v catchy
you're the only one is pleasant
i like the little jingly janglies in too afraid to love
passingly familiar with this album..."GO!" takes me back
testify is great, i like chi-city, the food
album reminds me very much of the blueprint and the black album (jay-z, 2001 & 2003 respectively)
"islands" and "heart skipped a beat" are already on my old favorites playlist - first time i can say that about any of these albums!
the other tracks, however, left me unmoved. i likes the guitar in infinity. on the whole, snoozy
not for me, but, you know...i didn't hate it like i hated the replacements. i know it's only 38 minutes long, 16 tracks, but by god...it felt like a long, long listen
"let me touch the tips of inculcated desire" - wasn't expecting that!
do appreciate lorna doom, great derby name, pretty sure i have even met a couple lorna dooms IRL
bring the ruckus was a high point
leonard cohen is such an incredible lyricist...his music itself doesn't always appeal to me, but the words never fail to move me.
buffalo stance is my fave...otherwise, not super into it.
i have primarily listened to the smiths, haven't explored much of Morrissey solo but we're off to a strong start. the guitar melodies are so gorgeous, very pleasing to my ears. really enjoyed this one, 4 tracks made it to my personal favorites playlist.
as an incorrigible hater of almost all things psychedelic, i expected this to be a painful revisit, but it's not so bad. haven't listened to it in over 15 years.
time is nice, brain damage is alright, a few other songs were tolerable but not anything i'd go out of my way to re-listen to.
another album i know relatively well, but always happy to explore again and see how it strikes me
well, this is delightfully odd
ohhh the relax song
i've listened to this album a hundred times, but it's been a good while so i'm pleased to revisit.
i first listened to tidal in maybe...4th grade? it'll be interesting to see how i feel about my old favorites and see if i discover any new ones.
sleep to dream was an old favorite, and it holds up, same for slow like honey
shadowboxer and never is a promise were my top favorites, and i still love them. amazing to think i was 8 or 9 years old jamming out to this, being struck by its beauty. never is a promise is just...otherworldly. and fiona herself wasn't even 20 (TWENTY!) years old???? my GOD.
criminal, an obvious classic
the first taste - the lyrics are so good! truly gorgeous yodel-y unshaped vocals at the end, musically interesting, what a gem
i've never purposefully listened to the roots
rolling with the heat and seed 2.0 had me bobbing my head
i thought i'd really enjoy this album...but i did not. female alt singer-songwriter is my jam, but this is just so...droning, same-y, needlessly loud, cacophonous.
man-sized sextet - i did very much enjoy this one and found it very interesting
me-jane is another stand-out, snake as well
i like folk - even pre-60s folk - but this has just never done it for me
it's alright, ma has some great lyrics
this was a life-changing album for me in 05/06 - i saw antony in '07 and i'll never forget it
i'll accept that i am a "harsh" rater in this app's estimation - recently even upgraded to "critic" in bold red font! - but please note that i LOVE this album and am rating it at 4 stars. there are 10-star songs on it, yes, but the album as a whole? i won't lie and say it's 5 stars. i won't pretend i like another album because it's a "classic" or because it's "foundational" or "seminal" or whatever else. this project is rapidly turning me into an anti-stan for whatever clown assembled this list
obnoxious, just like it was in 01/02
