We all know or have an idea of what jazz sounds like but before this album it likely was a lot harder to define. This sounds ground breaking and amazing
I think the only song I have heard before was Here Comes Your Man which is surprising because I was into a lot of alternative music at the time of this release. It sounds energetic as hell and brimming with cool sounds, ideas and lyrics
I think I’ve only ever heard the Hallelujah cover so I’m interested and curious to hear why the album got mixed reviews and now seems to have been reexamined and reevaluated. The opener Mojo Pin sounded like 2 or 3 songs which was interesting and good but the second song, Grace, for whatever reason, I immediately disliked. Lilac Wine is very pretty and sweet sounding and a couple of these songs are great and a couple are just insufferable. How did Corpus Christi Carol make it on? I’m surprised at how uneven this all is. Definitely some major moments and some terrible misfires for me. Undeniable talent
Noisy and soaring and sinking and floating and screaming and laughing and tender and raw and that’s life! How have I never heard of this before now? Deep shame over that and lots of love for the thought and creativity and skill and chutzpah that forced this into being.
I was not maybe in the right frame to hear this today. I liked about 3 songs and found the rest pretty annoying
Revelatory! So many ideas and I feel like if he’d wanted to, Jimi could have turned each of those songs into an album long track. Brimming. I will listen again and to more since I really knew a couple of the famous tracks but not much else. This generator list is making me reevaluate my previously held view of myself as well listened - there is a lot I’ve missed
While I’ve enjoyed some of Taylor’s hits along the way, I’m not an album by album listener. This is a really pleasing record with some funny and clever lyrics and songs that definitely want to be heard again. I find it difficult to enjoy listening to people who for whatever reason are overexposed, analyzed and everywhere all the time. The less I know about Taylor and most artists, the more I’m free to just enjoy their music
Slightly sinister and soulful start! Love it - so much butter, so much soul! I probably don’t need the ‘…Phoenix’ intro again but it was cool to hear this time. The rest of the song though is amazing. Now I get the Isaac Hayes love! The musicians are full of magic here
I like the way this sounds new and classic at the same time
Such a kick ass live performance. You can feel and hear the energy and urgency and what blows me away is imagining how explosive this must have sounded like at the time. There are nods and love for what came before but a propulsion forward that kicks open the doors for what’s to come.
Fun and lively although even the shorter songs seem a fair bit longer. Would be great if this was the band at your house party in the middle of summer
The first song was really enjoyable and the next few don’t feel like they were fully ready to be committed to tape. Then comes the song Time which immediately sounds different and interesting and makes me want more. I love that there are several sides to Mr Wilson on offer here but while some tracks trail off before they’ve reached their destination, others are allowed to go on perhaps a bit longer than they need to.
