Three letters….Y.Y.Z. Not just the toronto airport code, although the beginning notes are morse code for Y Y Z, but its pure Rush progressive instrumental awesomeness. This is a more radio friendly album, songs like Tom Sawyer & Limelight are familiar examples, it also features more synthesizer which is the beginning of the ultra 80s Rush era. The deep cuts like Witch Hunt are alright, better for background music. Red Barchetta is a staple off this album, its quintessential story-telling Rush lyrics. But YYZ is hands down the best song off of Moving Pictures.
Funky new wave album. It starts off meh in the beginning, but Uncertain Smile to Giants picks up and gets fun. It has a unique new wavey style, wouldnt be a go-to album, but I appreciate the avant garde-ness & was a good listen. The song Soul Mining was my favorite.
Classic bluesy-blues. Muddy Waters is iconic & always a great listen. These are familiar songs, I enjoy his style & voice.
I am a sucker for cool jazz. This album is so sophisticated, classy, & smooth on the ears. There is just something about that stanky upright bass, brush taps on the high-hat, and saxophones-saxophoning. Interesting time signatures. Piano is lovely, has its own voice to add some flavor to the songs. Take Five is the most famous song out of this bunch, its never gets old. Blue Rondo is pretty progressive, and then gets super jazzy. The quality of the sound and musicianship is highly appreciated.
Oh Prince. What a fricken little horndog. Very 80s, very synth, very funky. Not my cup of tea, Ive heard better Prince songs. Too nasty lol
Steely-muthafuggin-Dan. Im biased. Theyre just too good. Catchy innuendo songs, who doesnt like that?
Classic moody Smiths. Still like The Smiths’ music even though Moz is a douche. This album was reminiscent of my 80s-music listening phase in college.
Elvis Costello is like matcha tea to me. I like it sometimes, I want to like it, or Im not interested at all, but I still want to try it. This album was ok, not mad about the listen. I appreciate the hints of bluesy in some of the songs. I think Allison is his best work. Such a smooth, great song. Love the melody and the guitars on it.
Love Led Zeppelin. Not a bad song on this album. So. So. SO good. The use of stereo panning with just the guitar on What Is And What Should Never Be towards the end of the song is just clever and fantastic. The bass on these songs is funky & great. Really tones out Jimmy Page, which makes it better. He doesnt suck, he is just sloppy. Anyways, I will always give this album a listen no matter what.
Its ok… :/ Not my favorite jazzy horny-horn album. I appreciate the trumpet talent.
Not my favorite VH album, but its iconic
Not my favorite Tom Petty album. Sure do miss him though. His songs were timeless. American Girl will always remind me of SOTL. I do like Breakdown, probably the only good one off of here.
If coke residue was an album, this would be it. I love silly 80s stuff. However. This is….umm...memorable….
Quintessential goth rock. Absolutely love Sisters of Mercy and the last track is short but sooooo goooood.
Alice in Chains is probably my favorite 90s rock/grunge band. I played the hell out of this album throughout my life, so it holds a special place in my heart. I love their sound & style. That nassssty bass tone is *chefs kiss*. Layne Staleys voice is incredible and one of my many vocal inspirations. Every song is good. Never gets old.
Its a no from me, dawg. U2 aint my jam.
Excellent jazz. Makes me want to drink a dirty martini in a dimly lit old school lounge. Love this stuff. Miles Davis is the man
This album is deliciously funky. I can tell he has influenced a lot of artists, like Thundercat. Its got hints of progressive, which I appreciate! Im gonna lookout for any Shuggie Otis vinyl records now.
I was hesitant to listen, too depressing to listen for me right now. Maybe another day
Ive been forced to listen to this album for the last 9 years and my parents liked this album, so suffice it to say, ive been conditioned to enjoy Aja. It actually is good, more catchy innuendo songs. Deacon Blues probably the best song off this.
A Quincy Jones production perfection. Pretty much every song is a banger. Youd be living under a rock if you havent listened to this. Fun fact: Human Nature was written by yacht rock legend Steve Porcaro from Toto. QJ heard the demo and loved it, and MJ ended up recording it. Also Eddie Van Halen plays the guitar solo on Beat It. Theres a Paul friggin McCartney duet. And one more gem: Vincent Price does the speaking track on Thriller. What an album.
Very 60s, I like the Byrds.
Fantastic album. I fricken love David Bowie. Every song on here is SO GOOD. His voice is just so captivating and somethin else. Such grooves on this album. If you dont like Bowie, we cant be friends.
Goobers. I definitely like Talking Heads in their 80s era better. Psycho Killer is a classic.
As a vocalist, I appreciate a good singer, so I will give Miss Laura props there. But this album aint for me. It kinda gives me Linda Ronstadt too-muchery where its not easy on my ears.
Eric Clapton always delivers. This album’s sound is so clean. I enjoy his bluesy style. I would definitely listen to this again. Need to find on vinyl.
Makes a lot of sense with this collab of Brian Eno & David Byrne. Very avant garde & experimental. Definitely an album to really concentrate listening to. Thats what I appreciate about Eno. Byrne is such a weirdo, and I dig the “out there” brazen approach when it comes to his music. Some songs are funky and I liked them. Some were not for me.
My mom played this on repeat. Peter Gabriel slaps.
Very nostalgic album. I appreciate Tracys songwriting with the messages of social & political injustices. But im not a huge fan of the monotone singing song after song. I can only handle like 2 songs.
Probably the best NIN album. Its iconic. Its dark. Its sexy. Its intense. So industrial.
All I gotta say is…yikes. The 60s sure seemed like a wild time.
Reminds me of the stuff I heard in my dreams when I took melatonin. No thanks.
Been a long hot minute since I bumped some LCD Soundsystem. Forgot one of the songs off this album was in Step Brothers. Cool album.
I loveeee Roxy Music. But a fan of their 80s era. This sound was so different for its time. I appreciate that.
Beep beep. Who got the keys to the jeep? Vrrrooom!
I can’t believe I haven’t heard of this band before. I quite enjoyed this album. Definitely gonna have to see what else they have going on.
