Raw, fun, surprisingly sexy

Surprisingly traditional rock save for some fairly anodyne satanic lyrics. Fun but not for me.

I get how others can find this repellingly twee, but this is absolutely my thing.

At turns soaring and searing. A mix of romance and protest, but not disjointed.

Feels more influential than essential. By chance I got this only days after The Number of The Beast, obviously the fuller version of this vision.

Timeless in the purest way possible.

The conceit, an artsy electronic album almost completely composed of human voices, could be a gimmick in another artist's hands, but Bjork mostly makes it work. Still just kinda not my thing.

The high points are obvious and undeniable, but it's sprawling, two hours long, and has some real emotional insights like "love is suicide." Didn't finish.

I think Coldplay's reputation is a little unfair. Here you can definitely see their ability to tap into emotion, both quiet and soaring.

It's fun listening to this and noting the connections to bands like Iron Maiden I've listened to in past 1001 days. Great album.

Side 1, a saga-length cover of a Bo Diddley song, is incredible. I'd not heard of this album before, and I feel certain it will be in rotation for me long into the future.

There's something almost sugar-y about the blend of pop and rock here. And you gotta love the horniness.

There's a moment in the chorus of Simple Twist of Fate, as Dylan vacillates between a full throated wail and his signature mumble, where you can see all of him.

I'd only ever heard "Living For the City" and "Higher Ground" as standalone tracks from playlists or best-ofs. Hearing them in their full context is incredible. Genius stuff

Probably more important the personally enjoyable, but undeniably great. The drive on "He's Always There" and the meandering solo in "Lost Woman" are highlights.

Never been a Doors guy, and I still don't love Riders On The Storm or the titular track, but I found a new appreciation here for the bluesier stuff.
