1001 Albums Summary

I hate Lars' drumming. Hi Hat and snare are too harsh. As cited in Wikipedia, the bass guitar (and low end bass in general) is too flat. Makes the electric guitars and hi end portions of the drums overpowering. I do think this is their unique sound and it also be why I have always had a hard time listening to them, I find it to be annoying. However, I have never sat through a Metallica album and I did gain a little more respect for them. Thrash metal has never been my thing. Few Facts 1. One was bands first music video 2. Named after last four words of Pledge of Allegiance 3. Lars sucks Eye of the Beholder is probably my favorite song on this album as far as songs I did not know. The tempo change from 1:40 - 2:00 is cool. One of course is the best song on the album.

Eh, not my thing, I can appreciate the longer breaks up letting the band jam, but the bluesy style is something that never really caught my attention. Facts: 1) Billy Gibbons is a car enthusiast and the cover features one of his cars. 2) Introduction to the drum machine for this band, you can tell. 3) Also, introduction to synths for this band, caught the attention of a younger audience at the time.

Off the bat, I don't have enough listening history in Jazz or big band music to truly put out a reliable review. However, I did enjoy it, I'm a sucker for live music and the band keeps it tight and top tier (I imagine these were some of the better musicians in the genre playing). A live album in a genre I'm not versed in gives the right queues of when the band does something amazing such as the sax solo in Diminuendo. I did not listen to the version with all the dialogue and introductions, that may have lessened the experience but I imagine this is some of the best of the genre, makes good background music.

I don’t understand

I see there's quite a few Bob Dylan albums on here and I have never listened to his catalog outside of his big hits. I kind of can't believe how he sounds on these albums as he was in his early 20s. He sounds like a 65 year old man, and his lyrics kind of resonate like he is some sort of old soul (which I suppose he doesn't have to sing about himself). I do enjoy acoustic guitar with harmonica breaks, always reminds me of hiking and walking in nature. I don't mind him, I wouldn't really throw him on or find myself singing his songs, but I don't mind it.

Every song sounds similar, but I understand the influence and respect that

I will probably never get into The White Stripes, not my style. But shoutout to Meg White, she's the way cooler one. Despite her drumming being mostly quarter note bass + snare beats while hammering on a crash cymbal. She learned drums on a whim just dicking around on her boyfriends set, then married the guy, HE took HER last name, and that guy is still recognized by that last name and the name of the band. Jacks a coward, I hope Meg is doing well and rich AF and getting piped up on a beach in the Caribbean.

I am for sure bias with The Cure, I can't get enough of their guitar tones and sounds. Very unique and iconic. Always has a dark moody yet also fun joyous sound to it. I dig the OG emo music.

This is long overdue. I'm a firm believer that a bands best songs are not the singles. I think Hungry Like the Wolf always left me in a meh feeling but always curious of their complete albums. I'm a sucker for synth, and good bass grooves. Also a sucker for New Wave, so this band is the most ideal listen for me. This might be my first 5 star, first listen that I'm excited about and will pull repeatability from me. Rio throwing a sax in was fun, New Religion is an awesome song, and Save a Prayer is awesome as well. I think its fitting that most of these song end fading out because they could honestly just keep jamming and not lose interest, and abruptly ending these songs seems hard to do. I like the feeling of it could be played late at night on a drive, in a danceable atmosphere or even for Halloween. Plus the album artwork paints some weird rich 80s vibe. Honestly fuck Hungry Like the Wolf, there's way cooler sounds on here.

Something different for sure. Starts off with Broken Skin, a pretty relaxing song. Homelands has some neat drums in it, it kind of fell off for me after that. Wouldn't relisten or keep any songs from this album.

I never thought of the name of the group being related to this, and maybe it is, but I feel like I'm in the head of an undiagnosed/non-compliant with medications ADHD patient.

I feel like I could maybe enjoy this live with the experimental percussion. I think the setting would matter too, maybe a deserted mine shaft, a ghost town, or a prison. Not my thing.

It does the job, couldn't tell you the name of a single song.
