Love the power ballad ending. The piano send off absolutely sent me. Starts off strong and made me want to listen by a body of water.
3 - iconic beginning. I've never really given Beck enough credit for being so emblematic. Every song sounds like a great piece for a movie. Crazy to hear the influence they've had on later bands and also to recognize such a broad range of influence they've used on this album.
3 - Always fun, funky and suave. Not my fav work of theirs but Runaway Child is such a hit. Great album for a lil weekend get together
3- not my fav pixies album, although I do love them so so so much.
Fav Song: Havalina is a long time fav
4 - UGH a classic - only rating a 4 because its not something I'd listen to regularly and I cant give perfect scores away that easily.
3 - I only know Fugazi from their Demo album 'Instrument Soundtrack' so to hear them in full form was a big switch up. A bit more hard than what I'd normally listen to but a good listen regardless.
Fav Songs: Merchandise, Greed, Blueprint
3.5 - Loved this one. Love the 60s/early 70s ambiance that it creates. Really feel the americana, country-esque feeling that California musicians so often evoke. Never had listened to them before this and was suriprised by that.
Fav Songs: Hippie Boy!!!!! , Hot Burrito #2 , Do Right Woman, Christine's Tune
5 - okay i have to do it. a 5. a rare 5.
This is one of the most iconic and prolific albums to come when and where it did, ESPECIALLY if you live in NY. I have personally have had some of my favorite moments listening to live music during 2 of the songs on this album. I don't think its perfect, but goddamn it sure is close.
Fav songs: Get Innoculous! , North American Scum , Someone Great , All My Friends , NY I Love You...
2.75/3 - Not what I'd regularly listen to but alot alot of fun. Nver really gave them a chance outside of the few big songs. Shining Star is the craziest start I LOVE it. I would give this intor a 5/5 but the rest of the album wasnt as potent until Africano.
Fav Songs: Shining Star , Africano
5 - Okay well this one is unfair because it's one of my favorite albums ever. One of the greatest rock bands of all time at their peak, cosplaying Americana, witty and balanced, with almost no low moments in the album.
Fav songs: Wild Horses (prob a top 5 song in my life) , Dead Flowers + every other but those are top 2
3.5 - Never listened to them before but was a surprisingly big fan. Felt Talking Heads-ish, The Smiths-ish, The Cure-ish at times. Almost had a Southern Asia / Indian note to their instrumentals. Some Epic solos too.
Fav songs: The Cutter, My White Devil, Gods will be Gods
3.75 - Such an iconic artist and album, Them Changes was actually my personality my senior year of college. So funk and cool and untouchable basslines. Only rating it below a 4 because I only really care to listen to probably 30% of the album outside of the album as a whole.
Fav songs: Them Changes, Jethro, Walk on By
2.5 - Not my favorite Bowie, although respectable. I appreciate it more than I like it. I deeply admire his ability to reinvent himself over and over, and continue to push his creative envelope without letting himself get stale.
5 - Ok I can't argue with an album labeled the greatest album of the 20th century. Also another one I grew up listening to on cassette in my dad's work truck. 'Jamming' was probably my favorite song as a child. Nostalgia + Iconicity = 5stars.
Fav Songs: Jamming, Exodus, Turn your Lights Down Low, + all the others tbh
3.5 - LE FREAK, C'EST CHIC !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish I could give the first and last songs a 5, but the middle ones didn't have the same impact to me. Good Times is perfectly, timlessly, the ultimate best mood song of all time. Album cover is 10/10 tho.
2.75 - Liked, didn't love. I really appreciate their sound and think its very emblematic of the time it was made, would be super fun in a specific setting. Definitely giving more of Husker Du a listen now...
Top songs: She Floated Away, Could you be the one?
2.5 - Not really my type of listen, but pretty interesting. Hits this electric blues and punk alt side of things pretty hard with a weird funky undertone. Definitely the most abrasive start to an album I have heard in a while.
Top Songs: Wail // R.L. Got Soul // also kind of like the weird, disorienting outro, Sticky for some reason.
4 - One of the greatest of all time and I do adore Jimi and love him as a person (from what I know) almost more than his music.
Fav songs: Up From The Skies // Little Wing // Castles Made of Sand // One Rainy Wish
4 - GOOOOOOODMORNING VIETNAM
2 - Didn't really care for any of the songs other than the instrumental one, Space Child. Can absolutely respect the theatrics of their sound though
3.25 - 1967 may have been the best year for rock of all time, jussayin'. Fun and psychedelic and iconic harmonies in feeling and grit.
Fav songs: 8:05 / Bitter Wind
4 - another Jimi so quick??? Oh Darn (sarcasm)...
Fav songs: May This Be Love // Hey Joe // Third Stone From The Sun
3.75 - Grading this album was difficult. Coldplay holds such a huge space in the mainstream rock space, and I have always wondered how that is when I've always viewed them as some version of plain or as just being adequate, safe, and agreeable. That being said, it is a pretty unremarkable album BUT there are a few songs that are so timelessly iconic (at least in my upbringing) that they hold much more weight than what I'd give them on just a first listen.
Fav Songs: Sparks // Yellow // Parachutes
4 - wow why do I love bruce springsteen so much? Never realized how much I did. Give him a guitar and a harmonica more often.
Fav songs: Nebraska // Mansion on the Hill // Highway Patrolman // State Trooper // Used Cars // Reason to Believe
3.5 - Enjoyed a few of these songs thoroughly. Loved the grit, the blues, the boogie. Absolutely obsessed with the feeling and spirit of some of these songs.
Fav songs: I'm In The Mood // Sally Mae // Rockin' Chair // No Substitute
3 - I hate to say it, but I've never gotten as into the Grateful Dead as I wish. This albums still really really good, Friend of the Devil is one of the greatest of all time.
4 - WHAT A RIDE - I love everything about this album. Although the songs may not individually be single hits, the fluidity of the way it runs through is so much fun to enjoy. Marvin belting out "SAVE THE BABIES" over and over is so funny.
Top songs: What's Going On / Save the Children / Right On
3 - For whatever reason, I constantly mix up the Isly Brothers and the Doobie Brothers, so when "Listen to the Music" came on I was absolutely baffled.
Fav Songs: That Lady Pts. 1&2 // Sunshine (Go Away Today)
4 - Whole Lotta Love, Heartbreaker, Ramble On .... Like cmon???
