Every time I start a new project, I’m given an album I dread and never even listen. Repeat this process about 7 times for a year. Only makes sense I’m given a U2 album for my new project, but this time I actually listened to all of it. I wasn’t wrong. So boring. I’m happy other people like this- I am anxiously awaiting however many U2 albums I will be given, and undoubtedly give 1 or 2 stars. I’ll give it a 2 because I finished it. I don’t need to hear these ambient guitar sounds anymore, or Bono’s insanely boring vocal style.
Was not looking forward to starting this since last time I started with PSR+T and found it crazy boring. Folk isn’t my thing. The good parts were better than I expected. The lyrics were strange and too folk-y for my taste at times. Under a half hour? That’s almost enough for 5 stars alone.
Somehow hadn’t listened to this despite having friends try to get me into jazz in the past. Part 1 was a bit too jazz for me, but once I was able to find the groove I really loved it. I’ll probably try to find more comprehensive (?) jazz albums moving forward?
Hello is a HEATER. Totally different sound on track two. I wish every song was her singing about being heartbroken, her voice is incredible. I’d listen to her sing the dictionary. ‘When we Were Young’ could be an Elton John song. I really like all of the piano songs, the more pop oriented the songs become the less I enjoy them.
Folsom Prison Blues is an awesome track, the rest of the album (or his other songs for that matter) I find boring and uninteresting. Oh, Jackson with June Carter is fun, too.
I think I will listen to this more if/when I have a house, out on the porch at night.
Good voice, too over-produced for the sound she is going for.
The bassist is going crazy on this one. Must have been incredible ripping a heater in a jazz club seeing this live, 3 old fashioned’s deep.
Inject J. Mascis riffs into my blood. Tattoo them in my heard so I can hear them when I sleep.
The Gift is cool as hell. Lady Godiva is not. I liked Sister Ray to end it, but of course I feel it goes on way longer than necessary. Too experimental for me, maybe I’d like some of their other shit I don’t know. (Listened to more later and I liked everything from other albums more than this one)
This was so much better than I expected. March of the Pigs, Ruiner, a Warm Place into Eraser? Holy shit. I spent a lot of the time listening to this thinking of a kid in elementary school. Poster child for adhd. Always wearing NIN, White Zombie, or Korn shirts. True madman shit to listen to this as an 8 year old.
More music I heard in video games growing up that blew my mind; Bring the Noise in THPS2 and Rebel Without a Pause in San Andreas. This is a classic for a reason, Chuck D is a killer. Black Steel would have been the best song on Straight Outta Compton.
I’m not doing this again.
Not a single skip. Crazy that this is their debut.
Into the Fire fuckin STINKS. Is this just an album about Jesus? Countin’ on a Miracle, Empty Sky, Worlds Apart has gotta be top 5 worst three song runs I’ve ever heard. Followed up Let’s be Friends (Skin to Skin). This should be relegated to commercials where old people sit naked in separate bathtubs watching the sunset. I can’t wait for this to be over. Oh, it’s a 9/11 album? This sucks.
I will never, ever understand the appeal. He has the voice of a character in a cartoon designed to be irritating. Unlistenable.
Some cool stuff in here. Reminds me a little of AJJ at times. This very much sounds like a 2004 album. I like the creepy and weird songs a lot, the ones that remind me of the Decemberists less. Autumns Child is such a boring and flat way to end this album.
This record kicks ass. Incredible debut release.
This is better than all Gorillaz post Plastic Beach. Happy to have been unfamiliar with this until now.
I made it 5.5 songs. These guys have to be stopped. Two stars because of the Daydream sample in the first song.
I can’t do this album straight through. That’s too much Peter Gabriel for one sitting. I know the hits (and they’re fine) so I skipped over them. I’m sure I’ve heard this album collectively over time through various doctors offices, grocery stores, or my moms car.
Was totally unfamiliar with this and was hooked immediately. Good thing I didn’t know about this album in high school- I would have been insufferable. This kicks ass.
So good. Wish it were warmer out so I could listen to this with the windows open or driving around.
Thought this was Billy Idol singing. It’s fine, but I definitely can’t take a full album of this straight through.
Not my thing, but I gotta respect this guys output as a real deal drunk.
I typically put on the Motown era Temptations when I want to hear something classic. God damn, this was so sick. I didn’t even know psychedelic funk was a genre? 8 songs, 36 minutes? Chefs kiss, no notes.
Very good, but if I ever went to a show and they played this few songs for this long of a time I’d be pissed.
I like this. Country is too slow
Classic sound. Like all of this except 'Jenny, Jenny'. I wish I had talked to my dad about music more. He hated what I listened to, but I always like his taste and wish I had tried to connect more. Remember when Little Richard was big in the 90s for some reason? He was on Full House, why? That was weird.
I thought I was going to get sick of this and not finish but that wasn't the case. I really liked the title track. Lots of it blended together, but it was a cool album.
This guys voice is so fucking boring. The general public has the worst taste in music.
Really like the first half of the album. I dig the funk and soul stuff. Gets a little too coffee shop sounding for me towards the end. I’d buy this if I saw it while flipping through records.
This was great! I guess I’m becoming a 90s Brit pop guy? Totally unfamiliar with this, and based on the band name and album cover this was not at all what I was expecting. Played it through twice.
Fuck off with the 19 minute jam session.
I enjoyed this a LOT. I fell behind for a few days because I thought I was going to hate this, but I’ve listened to it twice now. Will definitely be checking out her other albums.
I think the video for Stress gave me my first stoned panic attack. This album rules.
Was only familiar with Blonde on Blonde and Highway 61. I like this better than both of those. Makes me want to go take walk in the woods.
I was expecting an entire album of songs that sound like 'Moondance', and I wasn't entirely wrong? It was okay.
Never would have heard this if not for this project and I really loved it. Thought I would skip it but keep going back and putting on random songs from the album.
It's a Kinks album. Not one I was familiar with. It's fine.
This is awesome. Skipped the singles I am too familiar with. 'Fade Away and Radiate' and 'Pretty Baby' were my favorites. Is Blondie my favorite band actually? Too early to tell.
This was a ROUGH listen. Maybe I just am not in the mood to listen to something like this, but I can't imagine a world I ever would be.
The vocal melody in 'Spellbound' immediately makes me think of 'Abracadabra' by Lady Gaga. Really like the guitars on 'Halloween'. I like the guitars on 'Monitor' as well, but not the rhythm section. Ending of 'Voodoo Dolly' was cool.
